I am one of those people who actually watched this movie A LOT and honestly now years later the whole action with the dog is so hilarious to me. Like, poor doggie, but they made it so dramatic, they shut down half the city and the fact they had to sing to save him? Truly only Disney could come up with this 😂
And the fact that they CONTINUED to film there and the Cheetah Girls basically got a music video out of it is crazy 😂 like this was an emergency dog rescue but now there’s a live performance

i never realized how monotone disney got after HSM. like i was 6/7 when cheetah girls came out and i remember watching it for the first time thinking omg this is the best thing ever. as an adult i realize how much movies like this formed me. it’s relatable to those of us who went thought things in life. I think that after a while disney last its personality and stopped trying to relate to actual issues

So I don’t know if anyone else mentioned it but the movies are based off of a book series!! I was obsessed with them after this movie came out and i believe the author was a producer on this (as was the great Whitney Houston!) In thr books there are 5 girls, as Aqua has a twin. They moved to New York with their father. The books all tell the girls POV and different storylines. Galleria and Chanel are childhood besties because their moms are models; Dorinda is a foster child but also biracial(half black, half white) in the books, and she later learns that she has a full white sister who was adopted into a wealthy family; Aqua and Angie povs, I don’t remember much, but I think the girls spent a summer in Texas with them to compete in a competition in their hometown; Chanel took ballet and got back into it, but starved herself and had to go to the hospital in one book. It’s been a loooonggg time since I’ve read them, but I believe this is the closest ‘adaptation’ of one of the books (the girls getting discovered by a shady record producer) but the other movies did their own thing after this one.
Apparently, the Cheetah Girls weren't so friendly off screen, and frequently butted heads. That's likely why Raven Symone didn't return for the third instalment.

They became real close during the pre/post production and promotion of the film. At the same time, already famous actress Raven Symone became THEE RAVEN SYMONE that same year on Disney channel and was booked and busy!!! 3 years later when it was time to film the 2nd movie in Spain, the other girls stayed close, became a “real group” signed by Disney and did some singles and Christmas tours. Because of that bond, Raven was on the outs a bit BUT actress Chanel and Dorinda were still cool with her. ALLEGEDLY it was the Aqua actress that was making it rough to be around during the 2nd movie. Allegedly they fought or something but either way, she made it very uncomfortable for Raven during the time and that’s part of why Raven didn’t do the 3rd movie. Which wasn’t that great mostly because of her absence. But don’t let this deter you from enjoying the 2nd movie because it’s honestly the BEST ONE of the 3.

A) loved the transition to Africa by Toto B) i understand Chanel’s mom having fun in her relationship and caught up in that, but I will never understand putting up her apartment for sale without consulting her daughter first. C) I liked seeing a happy two parent home and that a foster parent got some positive representation. D) while I like the other tow films better, it is impressive how many serious topics they added to this movie. Surprised that the other two films didn’t do that.

The Color of Friendship is the BEST Disney Channel Original movie. The Color of Friendship's subject matter is so deep its next level. They have never made something as daring or important since then. The Cheetah Girls is amazing though and huge for diversity and young women!

I was like “You will not reduce the great and fabulous Lynn Whitfield to Tyler Perry”…. Then I remembered she indeed played a terrible mother in Madea’s Family Reunion. But her filmography has some classics on it, including my favorite Eve’s Bayou. She will play “mean” but Ms. Lynn will never play “broke”.
I remember the “Extended” version of this movie was one extra scene. The girls wait after the Toto was taken out the well because it had breathing issues. It’s the only answer as to why it’s daytime when the dog is taken out but still dark when they do the final performance.
there's nothing more beautiful than a sing-along moment where benji's fully in character + hitting high notes and the music takes a hold of rizzo even though he doesn't know the words. i also thought i had seen cheetah girls, but i think it's probably bc the music videos were always on. the only post-hsm movies i can think of that were this good are lemonade mouth (all the songs are STILL bangers), jump in, let it shine, and twitches too (the first one was pre-hsm). also, idk if this is your vibe, and it's kind of a long movie, but i'd love to see y'all watch dreamgirls (the one w jhud and beyonce). it's def sing-along-able! also kind of hilarious that one of the main conflicts is who wrote the songs, but their best song cinderella was already a hit TWICE with other groups before them! but we did get 2/3 members of 3lw so i'm not mad at it.
In the book series, the character Aqua had a identical twin sister named Anginette. Disney couldn't find age appropriate twin girls so the character Anginette was remove from the film. The music teacher Drinka is actually a trans woman. Lynn Whitfield is a legend. You guys should react to The Josephine Baker Story which won her an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Josephine Baker. A Thin Line Between Love and Hate with Martin Lawrence is another one of her best performances.
Alongside HSM 2, I believe that The Cheetah Girls 2 is one of the best sequels from all the disney channel og movies, I would adore if you react to it, the songs are just incredible and so is the plot. Cheetah Girls 3 might not be the best of them all in terms of story but it has some of the best songs and musical numbers in the entire trilogy, so I would recommend you to watch it at least just for that

My twin and I grew up with this movie! At 24 I'm still a Cheetah Girls fan. My favorite then and now is Aqua. DCOM movies in the Golden era of Disney hit differently! I hope you guys enjoy the next 2 movies, or the second one. Fun Fact: Solange was originally supposed to play Aqua, but couldn't because her father wanted to release a solo album. So the part went to Kiely Williams, which I think was a better idea, tbh!

C) I liked seeing a happy two parent home and that a foster parent got some positive representation.

The Color of Friendship is the BEST Disney Channel Original movie. The Color of Friendship's subject matter is so deep its next level. They have never made something as daring or important since then. The Cheetah Girls is amazing though and huge for diversity and young women!

I remember the “Extended” version of this movie was one extra scene. The girls wait after the Toto was taken out the well because it had breathing issues. It’s the only answer as to why it’s daytime when the dog is taken out but still dark when they do the final performance.

there's nothing more beautiful than a sing-along moment where benji's fully in character + hitting high notes and the music takes a hold of rizzo even though he doesn't know the words. i also thought i had seen cheetah girls, but i think it's probably bc the music videos were always on. the only post-hsm movies i can think of that were this good are lemonade mouth (all the songs are STILL bangers), jump in, let it shine, and twitches too (the first one was pre-hsm). also, idk if this is your vibe, and it's kind of a long movie, but i'd love to see y'all watch dreamgirls (the one w jhud and beyonce). it's def sing-along-able!
also kind of hilarious that one of the main conflicts is who wrote the songs, but their best song cinderella was already a hit TWICE with other groups before them! but we did get 2/3 members of 3lw so i'm not mad at it.

The music teacher Drinka is actually a trans woman. Lynn Whitfield is a legend. You guys should react to The Josephine Baker Story which won her an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Josephine Baker. A Thin Line Between Love and Hate with Martin Lawrence is another one of her best performances.

Alongside HSM 2, I believe that The Cheetah Girls 2 is one of the best sequels from all the disney channel og movies, I would adore if you react to it, the songs are just incredible and so is the plot. Cheetah Girls 3 might not be the best of them all in terms of story but it has some of the best songs and musical numbers in the entire trilogy, so I would recommend you to watch it at least just for that
