Fantastic move. We just restored Monahan's career. We restored Tatar and Radulov in the past...we can restore this guy. He is a stud.

Exactly. MTL is a dream city for players really wanting to revotalize their careers. I think of Kovalev, his years here were not perfect but he became an idol for the city. Not saying this is what Laine will do but, its possible...

It's not just the organization, the history, the team. Nowadays we have another factor that can help with restoring careers: the Marty factor!
What happened with Laine is that he lost himself. He IS very talented, we saw it from the moment he entered the NHL. A good player like that doesn't just become bad for no reason, he got lost, he' built himself a shell to hide into.
What Martin St-Louis does best is he breaks that shell and finds the human behind it. Once he find the human, the rest is history; the human finds the player again!

I think this will be good. Maybe I am being too optimistic but the environment that Laine will be in will be good for him. Young team motivated to win plus a coach that preaches an offense style of hockey. Not the dump and chase of Laine's past coaches but real possession hockey that Laine has been known for. So here's hoping for a bright future.

    Kirby Dach,
    Joshua Roy,
    Arber Xhekaj,
    Lane Hutson,

Laine got gaslit and bullied in Winnipeg. Next he had to play in Columbus who are bad, in the midst of which his father passed away. This obviously affected his mental health and he had to go into the the NHLPA assistance program to get the help he needed to recover from all this.
Due to these speed bumps that've been hampering his career I feel like people have forgotten what kind of a rookie and sophomore Laine was. 4th youngest player in NHL history to score 100 goals, among other similar accolades.
And he can shoot hard and accurately from being in unbalanced, tricky body, positions and bad passes, but when he gets a clean one time pass into his wheelhouse, the puck doesn't fly through the air, it timetravels into the net before other particles in the universe can interact with each other, or the puck.
As an example of the former, this is his casual "I'm not gonna shoot because I'm showing no wind-up oh wait the puck is already in the net" shots: th-cam.com/video/nDY9Lw25wvA/w-d-xo.html.
And sorry it's against the Habs but here's a good look at the clean one-timer th-cam.com/video/orc53wJ6kHU/w-d-xo.html
I'm hoping the NHLPA program was effective and he has gotten over the unfair things that went on for the first few years of his career and will now be back the same or stronger than ever.

But, I am left with a question : why is it that the HABS cannot trade for a “no controversy” offensive star??

I am not thrilled by this trade but I am happy for Jordan Harris because I think he can spread his wings. I really like the guy and selfishly would like him to stick around so that he can be plugged in wherever we need him. But he only was on 2 year contract And I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall and that would impact the next negotiation. Really happy we got what's going to be a good second round pick but would have preferred to see Trudeau or Engstrom go or Columbus retaining 1.5 to keep them below Nick Suzuki. Perfect scenario is he scores 25 this year and signs for a extension at a team friendly rate before he settles into a 30-ish goal typical season. It's been a long time since he's been a 40-goal score but if he puts up a point again at least it will keep people from discussing the lack of scores and recent Canadiens history. But if he were long-term I'd be really excited about that second line which makes the third line look even better.

I will reserve my judgement until I see him play 10 games for Montreal. He comes with a lot of baggage and Montreal fans are tough if you don't produce.
I still don't think Montreal will make the playoffs just because they are in the toughest division in the NHL.
MSL is offensive minded and I think the best strategy is to let loose when it comes to offense just to build up the confidence of the players on the team.
Sam & Primeau will have to be at their best in the first 10 games.
They have to unlock a power play, get an offensive defense and get the top 6 working well together.
It should be interesting and entertaining this year.

Ok $10 mill is LTIR but still. That’s a massive dump and we get a 2nd round pick . That being said, I think he’s gonna thrive here and provide us with a big piece of the puzzle.

Laine will love Montreal. Progressive management MSL a coach who has been top player and understands the nuances of the game and everyone has RESPECT. If Laine can’t make it here then his career is over. We know his talent he is in 2 years one of our oldest players and has the chance to go from supposedly toxic to top 3 and mentor for our prospects. KH kills me he turned a 7th D into a top 3 and a 2nd to boot. Now we start trading we now have even more assets get McGroerty Get Kiliyev. A team with prospects as good as ours and maybe only Roy NHL ready means our prospects have time to season up time to get rid of our older players and time is on our side. KH knows it is a gamble but one with limited risk. Now if we get McGroerty and Kiliyev we have unless we hit only Roy and Hage have a chance of even making this team. Don’t think KH is done but still want a low draft this year. Let’s move players all over to get the right lines for 25/26. This year experiment then Demi comes over and we are so deep in talent that anyone that doesn’t pan out we have options.

Harris for Laine? That’s like to trade a raccoon for grizzly. Laine just needs to throw out his hidden demons.
