I was the single tenor player my senior year, this show was so much fun! What a blast to play as tenors, there was just so much life and variance and cool rhythms! Absolutely love that I got to play this as my show! My favorite out of all the ones I've done!
0:00 Opener 1:39 Key change 2:20 Land of Make Believe 2:55 The part that gets faster 4:58 Echano 6:03 The important part 6:48 El Gato Triste 7:46 it goes back to the ballad for some reason
I did this show in 2010 and it left us undefeated at competitions, they allowed middle schoolers to perform if they were good enough. Luckily I was and they put me on base drum 1 in seventh grade and I made my way to snare in eighth grade. Being the first middle school snare player in my town. It was my favorite show and my first show. It gave us all the captions and all first places.
I was surprised when I saw Mangione Opener was indeed written as an opener. My band has always played that one as a closer and it’s as equally powerful
Played this my Freshman year in high school back in 2012, i got yo say this was my favorite field show out of my 4 years in high school especially echano, we played it with a trumpet solo so it made it even better #sax #bigblueband
Very easy, not a lot of syncapation if youre on a marching instrument, but the pit has tougher music, since they don't march. I did xylo on this last year, and it's very nice, but now i can't listen to the original songs without singing the xylo parts. XD
We were going to play this arrangement of Land of Make Believe this year, but our director wound up drastically changing it to the point where, even though the music still says so, it's not the Jay Dawson arrangement anymore. Apparently these drastic changes were for the following two reasons: 1. To make our version more like Blast's. 2. Another band is playing the same song, so we wanted to stand out more at competitions by using a different arrangement.
We did it several years ago, in 2007 and, from what I remember, it wasn't that bad. Of course, I was in the pit so all I had to do was memorize the music.
Preformed this my Senior Year of high school! I loved directing this show as Drum Major! I jazzed it up a bit and won Best Drum Major in class A at every competition!
