Loui's Lunch in New Haven, CT is a staple with locals. A great place to meet up with friends, grab a bite & soak in some history! We had a blast with these guys!
The hamburger is delicious, but it is the history that makes it so famous. It's the restaurant itself and the atmosphere rather than the food that makes it such a wonderful place.
i wanna go to this place really bad to see what it's about. the tv shows praise it for its importance to history but the youtube commenters hate it because it supposedly looks raw. i need to see for it myself at this point
Man you can make a hard times ghetto burger at home, just take some wonderbread cheese whiz and some ground chuck, and you’ll be instantly transported to the Great Depression flavor... ugh.... but at least at home you can make 20 of the endless mediocrity burgers for the price of one here... how ridiculous... next up let’s microwave Sara Lee, Betty Crocker, or stouffers, charge premium and say it’s a family tradition... Jesus Christ....

The main reason why you would visit New Haven is for the pizza. If you have time left, definitely try the burger…..it’s not about whether it’s good or not, it’s more about the historical experience.
6 ounces is way bigger than they used to be. There is a difference because now they're too big and too rare. Been eating there for 47 years. I know. Look, you can make a better burger at home just how you like it; personally, I make Louis' burgers at home now but with a slightly different recipe: I use 80/20 beef (they have a special blend), buttered Pepperidge Farm toast (but fully toasted), and a bigger dollop of Cheez-Whiz. Yes, Cheez-Whiz, which is what they use. I always have two and cook them a bit more than medium rare. They are sublime. Louis' is as well if you're in the mood for them and eat 'em hot. And I always bring a little salt packet because they have no condiments and I like a little more salt. God, I want one now.
All they have going for them is the name and the original burger gimmick. Their beef quality is trash, Nd they serve the patty on soggy cheap toast bread all in the name of being original. Step your game up with the beef and bread quality
Its called the first hamburger where burger breads from that time doesnt exist. And it is from a concept of a sandwich. Technically it is a "prototype". The first ever car used coal and steam (not engine) and that doesn't change the fact that it is still a car.
This is literally the place where the hamburger was first made this was literally how they were made then. The cheese sauce is scratch made cheese sauce and this burger is so old it literally came before hamburger buns were invented.
