  • THIS is how the Indiana Fever ALMOST Came back against the Washington Mystics.
In the Indiana Fever’s last game against the Washington Mystics, Caitlin Clark had one of her best performances yet, tallying 29 points, 13 assists, and 5 three pointers. Although the Indiana Fever played some of their worst basketball throughout the first three quarters, in the 4th quarter they nearly came back from down 21 points. How did they do it? Well, it started with Caitlin Clark. In this video, I break it all down.

A part of me wonders if Caitlin’s attitude in the 4th quarter was a bit of “fuck it” mentality. You can tell she has been trying to play like a professional and taking less crazy shots than she did in college. But when you’re down 21 with one quarter left, what is there to lose???? lol I hope the coach has given her a green light but especially after seeing how well she played when she she was playing like she had nothing else to lose.

They had 23 turnovers and only 2 offensive rebounds vs. 10 from the Mystics. There were sloppy passes, travels, missed layups, etc. They were the worst team in the league for 3 quarters. Clark came out with a mission, she hates to lose and they almost pulled it off. We've seen now what she's capable of, I just hope the coach took notice. If it were me, I'd start Hull, Smith, Boston, Mitchell and Clark. Lexi can run the floor with Caitlin and Mitchell and she's a good defender.

ConvosWithCarter I saw the Indiana Fever down by 22 points in this game when Julie Vanloo hit a 3 pointer in the third quarter. This was such a shocking scoring performance by the Washington Mystics that I had difficulty digesting it. First of all, the starting lineup from their two recent victories over the New York Liberty and Phoenix Mercury shouldn't have been changed. This change disturbed the starting lineup’s cohesiveness and chemistry. Christie Sides had no valid reason for making such a change. As a former championship coach, I would have never made this change. Her starters were really starting to bond after defeating these two teams with winning records. The Mystics haven't even beaten those two teams! The Fever coaching staff didn't do their homework. Otherwise, this would have never happened. Sides and her entire coaching staff no basketball planning strategy skills or tactical knowledge. All of them are far too inept to coach in the WNBA!😢

I just saw the play by play...down the stretch CC made tons of free throws. It gets super close, and AGAIN she takes out Clark for a defensive stop.
Also saw, beside the super brick shot that Mitchell threw up at the last possession that she missed like 3 or 4 that qtr while CC was hot.
CC was pretty open when Don't Pass Mitchell three up that turd.
I think Sides hurts theor team. Thry win on talent.
Same time, the team can be horrendous. And I don't know how much is one or the other?!?

One commenter mentioned this, but Carter didn’t. With seconds left in game, CC dribbling past 1/2 court sizing up defense. She was nearing 3 point mark, the defense wasn’t set, and then I heard the whistle. At first i thought it was an away from the ball foul cause no way Sides would call a time out in that situation. But the whistle was signaling a timeout by Sides. So now the defense can get set, and Sides can go to her etch a sketch and draw up the shit show by Mitchell. Basically Sides had called a timeout to take the ball away from CC, and give the ball to Mitchell. If I’m the Mystics coach I’m saying thank you

I commented on this above, but I was at the game, and CC was so frustrated that Sides called that timeout, and I don’t blame her! Sides makes the worst decisions with timeouts, having them play half-court offense versus a more up-tempo, and her substitutions. Also, she doesn’t stick up for her players with the refs and doesn’t always use her challenge, like I don’t remember her using it in this game while Mystics challenged once, won the challenge so still had it, and challenged again later in the game.

Clark’s 4 th qtr play earned her that final shot that the Coach set up for Mitchell. Bench Clark on defense in the final minutes is ridiculous, CC is as good or better than any guard you put in. Team needed a steal and Clark already had 5, why take her out? Sides needs to understand Clark isn’t your average rookie, don’t treat her like one.

It seems like Sides simply WILL NOT pull the trigger on winning. She simply cannot bring herself to build COMPLETELY around every need and desire of CC. I think she’s afraid she’ll lose control (ego) - and have a mutiny on her hands - when the jealous team members realize her focus is not making sure everybody gets little league “play time” and a participation trophy.

Lexi can be Caitlin's Gaby Marshall in Indiana, that's what I've been seeing with her defense and her 3-point shooting. If she improves, that's what Gaby did her job. If her effort helped the team, Boston missed CC. After so many games I still don't understand sides I don't quite trust CC to lose or win trust her believe me she will make you win much more than losing Lisa Bluder I trusted her until the last minute you have played for the decisive shots there are now 3 games who doesn't do it and takes it out at important moments. God is frustrating when he does. this match could have been won 💔

Then I'm running down the sideline when I see the Coach throw a ball towards the guy running a slant on the other side of the field towards the end zone.
I take an angle and turn on my boosters to catch up to the ball and last second I slide my body into my other teammate where my back goes into him amd intercept his touchdown.
I waited a year for that. I wanted to go for am extra point. After that move, they were like, "Nah, we're done."

I think there might be an internal issue with this team. Sides said twice at the Press Conference that the coach made the move. Which is weird speaking in 3rd person. Then the last question today at practice interview, she made a comment that is a team issue. I know NaLyssa Smith and her mother has made some comments about Sides numerous times this year. One was about Fagbenle was coming back and NaLyssa would not going to get playing time. I think some of the players may be turning on Sides.

She wouldn't say more than it was a coaching decision. Just speculating, but I think it's possible it might be an off the court reason or a personal reason that Sides didn't want dug into for privacy. Could just been not wanting to answer but I think she's a bit more professional than that.

Notice that Lexi did not dribble under the basket as most women do. That showed aggressive determination to go right to the basket. Dumbass Sides thought that isolating Clark while running a play for bad Mitchell would trick the Mystics away from the erratic Mitchell which it did not; It left Clark all alone, unused, wasted while Mitchell got blocked and later she shot at the backboard. Yeah, I blame tricky Sides for that last bad play who tricked her team into avoiding any chance to win the game. Of course we blame bad sides; The team wins in spite of, not because of, the coach.

If they played even one more quarter like the last, it would have been a slam dunk. But like she even said. You can't win games in this league with only one quarter of good game. They should not have lost. The rest of the team looked complacent with their Liberty win, and not until CC started doing some of the dirty work did the others step up. I hope they don't blame Lexie starting on the crap of the first quarter. It wasn't her fault, though she does seem to step up in crunch situations more. I'd like to give Lexie more starts to see if she is more a clutch 4th quarter player or someone that can be trusted more consistently.

Seriously, sometimes it's like 2 on 5 because there's no other Fever players involved in an attack.
And Christie Sides the self proclaimed queen of defensive basketball WTF? 😂❤ There is no shape to this team whatsoever. Even if they just lined up around the key. They wouldn't give away 30 free points a game like they did against the Sky?
Caitlin Clark needs to start getting selfish. Ignore her 'Coach' and just run the offense her way. If a player drops the ball ok no more passes for you 😂❤

Doesn’t stick up for her players much either. I was at the game, and my seat was located such (lower section along baseline of home basket) to where I could see the action but was also easy for me to see Sides. Clark was getting mauled, and Sides never seemed to say anything to the refs while the Mystics coach seemed to constantly be in the ref’s ear when play was down at their end. There was a time in the 4th quarter where CC took the ball to the basket and was fouled by the Mystics player in blocking the shot, but refs didn’t call it. Did Sides say anything to the ref? Nope, just hollowed out instructions to CC about the inbounds play! Sides also didn’t push for a flagrant when Dolson clobbered Samuelson nor did she ever use her challenge.

The blame needs to go to Christie Sides because she is a pathetic coach, FIRE HER!!! You are saying that Caitlin Clark is hot and in the past college games comes through at the end of games yet give the last shot to someone that hasn't hit a 3 for the whole game? You say Christie isn't a bad coach yet it has taken her 20 + games to figure out that Caitlin Clark needs to be in control for good things to happen. Not trusting Caitlin with the ball at the end of a game is a huge mistake and I'm sure after ruining this whole year for Caitlin Christie will figure that out at Cailin's expense. Don't give Sides any credit for good things since when things go bad she throws her team under the bus rather than take responsibility for any of it.

    • @bakerfresh
      @bakerfresh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah, its frustrating to watch. They score when CC runs up the floor and rushes the defense.
Thry set plays and it gets sloppy fast.
Sloppy is the Sides way. Catching up 20 points while the ball hog misses 8 3 pointers, is from CC. Regardless of the mentioned continuous misses down the stretch.
Lose by 5, but 8 of those possessions could have been different.
They were making mistakes all game, but down the stretch.
      Darn near unforgivable, Fart Face.

Comeback started and carried as close to the finish line as CC was allowed. The loss came with super cold, spotlight seeking Mitchell and Sides seemingly purposefull mismanagement. Find the right G who can and will play Clark's game. Trade Mitchell for Martin or Martin type player - a no brainer where instantly the teamfollows Caitlyn's lead. A note to you, friemd - you've yet to address this glaring reality of Mitchell. She has got.to.go. You didn't blame her but you should have. Sometimes you're a little too much toward too nice. Sides will neuter Clark and let No Pass Mitchell throw up almost anything.
Only seemed to bench her that last game as she missed.
Its nuts. 8 misses 0-8, and you get the last shot?!?
Always, games on the line....Sides is an idjut. Taking CC out is dumb. To hope for a rebound and call TO to sub back in.

  • @TruthMatters22
    @TruthMatters22 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You are a fantastic analyst. You look so young, how did you learn the game? Great job Carter! Sides has to learn that at the end of a game that is a one or two possession game, the ball must always be in Caitlin’s hands and real screens need to be set for her - not Mitchell. Caitlin will find Mitchell if she has the open shot in her wheelhouse. But if the ball is put in Mitchell’s hands, she will just waste time dribbling the ball which she did in the second to last possession in this game. Then she finally passes the ball to Caitlin and the coach calls a timeout when Caitlin gets fouled. Dumb! And then Mitchell made the wrong pass/decision on the last possession and then just settled for putting up a brick rather than passing to Caitlin who was red hot in this quarter. What is Sides thinking? She still seems to think that Mitchell is the veteran who will make the right play at the end of games when Clark is the one she should be relying on at this critical point in the game. Mitchell can hit shots at the end of games but when Clark is handling the ball and makes the right pass at the right time.

Its the WNBA. Players are dating other players on same or different teams or staff.
There's a rumor around for Sides amd Mitchell. May just be a Bond of coming over together?!?
But, she seems to let Mitchell have free reign. And keeps subbing out CC at important moments in multiple games.
Same moves. Or having CC inbound a pass down to the post?
      0-8?!?

3:55 tried that and didn't work. the first 10 games were CC chugging her 3s with only 27%. now it's more level headed shots and has increased to 34% but majority of time missed 3 shots goes to other team's hands so it's risky and kills morale of the team if it's done too many

On the effort side. Hammon took her entire Aces starting line off and threw the bench on the court because of the lack of effort from the starters. It was hilarious to watch 4 Olympians be benched, and honestly the bench team got some points (Kate Martin I believe) and I don't think they let the other team score really the minute and a half they were on the floor before Hammon felt the starters learned their lesson and released them back into the game.
If a coach can do that with a 2 time championship team woth 4 Olympians on it, Sides can do it for a team that's only fighting for a middle seed. She should have taken all her starters off in the second when they didn't come back with anything more than they had in the first. Learn or maybe the bench team gets a start next time. 🤷‍♀️ maybe if she had the effort might have shown in the 3rd.
