Hey guys at 15:30 there was a face you pointed at and said you weren't sure what the reference was for it. The face actually appears to be influenced by Bali masks. Do a Google search on it. Those masks are used often in tattooing.
As a 12/13 year old that was into drawing horror comics i can attest that if a teacher sees your art she will absolutely send you to a child psychologist. lol
haha yes. My parents took me to shrink when I was very young as I just drew Draculas getting their heads chopped off etc and my Dad was worried, the little sissy!
Love Rory Hayes. First saw him in Weirdo BITD. I should have bought the Fantagraphics book when it came out, it's gone crazy now like the bloody Greg Irons one, £200 second hand FFS! Hayes' stuff is pure speedfreak madness, the lad enjoyed his uppers I think, the connoisseurs used to inject it. Hayes' stories have that horrible nightmare paranoia feeling you get from being awake for days.
saw him and Mark Beyer round the same time, imagine, was poring over Sienkewicz and Wrightson before that, blew my mind! good/bad influence on my drawing lol
LOVE THE OLD UNDERGROUNDS,THEY ARE MY FAVORITE PART OF MY COMIC COLLECTION.LOVE REREADING ALL OF THEM.THE WILDER THE BETTER.GOOD OLD YELLOW DOG NEWSPAPER STUFF AND SO MUCH MORE GREAT STUFF FROM LATE 60'S SAN FRANCISCO.
Awesome video, love Rory Hayes work! If you guys want to check out other horror underground comics, check out Jim Osborne, Fantagraphics put out a book about him awhile back
I own a copy of Where Demented Wented which I bought from Fantagraphics up in Seattle, via mail order, over a decade ago. Autobiographical, to some extent, and plenty of dark visions in this one. I still need to find a copy of The Dolls' Weekly, now presumably out of print. If I can' t find it in an independent bookstore or comics shop, I'll order it online. (Have already checked with Barnes & Noble, my former employer, and it's not in their computer system. Clearly, small press and alternative literature are NOT high on their priority list.) Thank you, Kay Fabe, for posting this insightful review. 🇬🇧🐨🖋📙
Lads you should do "Jim Osborne Black Prince Of The Underground" on FU Press, would fit the Halloween theme nicely. Another dark and twisted underground guy with a tragic end. First saw a couple of panels in Mark James Estren's underground book in my teens and they left a mark. His early stuff is crude and shocking but later did some very fine illustrative work.

Hayes is my favorite cartoonist, really glad you guys are bringing a little more attention to his work

The image at 15:30 reminds me of African or Pacific masks.
