A lot of people seem pretty mad that this album got such a high score "even though its just a meme album" but Neil is a seriously talented and smart artist and honestly these mashups are genius. And if you need proof that he's talented, give his '16 album Spirit Phone a listen, it's all his own original music and is absolutely amazing! It's my favorite album from 2016 by far.
Oddly enough, I HATE 'Spirit Phone' but I love 'Mouth Moods' a lot. Spirit Phone just feels too "LAWL RANDOM" and kind of annoying but that's just me. It's like Mac Demarco for teens who like memes. Mouth Moods though... Masterpiece baby.

I'm on the case for finding all the easter eggs and fun stuff about this album as well as hidden lore and recurring themes and property tags throughout the Mouth (x) trilogy, but I need everyone's help like on the last album! Here's what I've discovered and theorized about this album so far after 3 sleepless weed fueled nights playing this masterpiece on repeat along with his other 2 Mouth albums (and his non-album soundcloud tracks like Ii Can't Enter That and SMASH MOUTH IS WATCHING): Notice the two references to time, the song title "T.I.M.E" and and the comment tag of the metadata for "The End " which says "Time is a valuable thing." All 3 albums have similar dates on the "modified" section of the their songs metadata. 5/3/99 2:00 AM for Mouth Silence , 5/4/99 (the same day the single for All Star was released) 2:00 AM for Mouth Sounds, and 5/5/99 1:05 PM for Mouth Moods meaning that could be the true ordering of the 3 albums...but there's another possible ordering that contradicts this bread crumb trail: First of all, there could be 3 possible final songs, as Sounds has "Alanis" which ends with a million TV show logo ending jingles (which is odd for being in the middle of the album instead of being the last track), Silence has "Goodbye" (which funnily enough is the first track on the album, making things more confusing to decipher), and Moods has "The End," as well as the metadata comment of "Floor Corn" saying "This is the end." Secondly, pay attention to the titles of the 1st and last songs of each album. Here's the ordering of the albums (and possibly the tracks) based on the hints in those titles. Remember that the definition of the word Promenade is to take a leisurely walk, ride, or drive in public, especially to meet or be seen by others. MOODS: 01 - The Starting Line 20 - Shit SOUNDS: 01 - Promenade (Satellite Pictures at an Exhibition) 17 - Smooth Flow SILENCE: 19 - Piss 01 - Goodbye but still, this still doesn't seem right because of The End not being at the end or Alanis or Goodbye, but maybe I'm over analyzing that part. Thirdly, the MP3 version of the official ZIP folder of Moods is 150MB in total. If you double 150, you get 300, and "300MB" is the name and theme of one the tracks in the album. I don't know if that is a rabbit hole into anything or not, but I wouldn't put anything past Neil. And finally, Look at Neil's first tweet regarding the surprise release of Mouth Moods, where he says "Is MOUTH MOODS my new mash-up album? You decide." what the fuck. ok that's all i got for now, so feel free to chime in, people.

yo I know I'm late to this thread but HOLY FUCK you definitely got somewhere. I think it's important to note that the Silence --> Moods --> Sound ordering works super well given their usage of All Star. In Silence, the All Star references are hidden - the song hadn't come out yet. In Moods they're more obvious, but it's just fragments of the song at first, like the first line being used in The Starting Line, the whistling in T.I.M.E., the first word in Wow Wow. It’s like Neil getting used to the song since, according to the date in the metadata of the album, the song had just come out, or, if you want to add to how freaky and almost cultish the albums come off as at times, it’s like All Star was waiting in the shadows during Silence and starts to take over him in Mouth Moods. The album’s 2nd last track is just a straight All Star mashup, and the album ends with Shit. You can see this as Neil ‘accepting’ the song and deciding he’s just going to troll everyone with it. This is, of course, supported by the fact that Mouth Sounds has a lot of Smash Mouth on it, so it’s a logical follow-up. Maybe I’m overthinking it but there’s definitely something going on.

This album is Cicierega's "Sgt. Pepper's". But I don't recommend watching this review until after you've listened to the album! One of the great joys of this album is being surprised and delighted by where Neil's songs can take you. Seriously, you will never see the twist in track 3 coming - don't let it be spoiled for you!
as someone who really, really likes samples in music, this album is unlike anything i have ever heard in my life. annoyed grunt is one of the most impressive displays of sampling genius i've ever heard. to put just So Many samples in one song and not only have them flow together to make it sound cohesive but ALSO have every single sample be perfectly recognizable to maintain that classic moment of hilarious recognition in which you think "wait... is that...?" and then it comes around again and you just can't help but laugh hysterically--it's perfect.
I can't stop listening to this album, I love it. I'd have to agree with the rating here. You peeps just based that Neil out does your favorite musicians just by joking than they do taking themselves seriously.
I was waiting for you to address the clusterfuck of amazing samples in Annoyed Grunt. Definitely my favorite song on the album. This is actually groundbreaking
I personally believe this album's story is about a boy growing up, going through puberty, being depressed, getting in with the bad crowd, getting out, going though failed relationships, experimenting with his sexuality, and finding himself.
Comedy is as justifiable and important as any other genre. Those saying this doesn't deserve a review or good rating fail to appreciate the editing mastery going on here. The shock and laughter and genuine emotion Neil brings from combing 90s pop is worth, in my opinion, 9/10 at a minimum.

I feel that's the thing with meme albums. This one was fantastic and so were the ones before it, but it's not just something to come back to when you actually want to listen to music.
I love how there's a debate raging about this album being 9 when they could be spending the time listening to this album. Absolutely brilliant and hilarious, I've show cuts from this to at least 10 people and the reaction is always side-splitting laughter, especially over T.I.M.E.
I loved the previous projects he made. Would never have found them if it wasn't for your channel. Honestly these mashups have a sort of chaotic and cathartic effect in that they are so off the wall that you just can't help but lose your inhibitions a bit and embrace the memes.
The thing I love about Neil's mouth series (especially Bustin) is that his tracks effortlessly walk the line between TH-cam Poop and well crafted pieces of musical collage.
You know what? Maybe we all need some space, to pull the knife out of the back of the most celebrated Canadian alt-rock band of the mid 90s, you selfish, jaded, ass!
I think the last track is defensible on Steve Reich grounds: the "really really really" loops phase in and out like Piano Phase and also, by repetition, lose their meaning and become pure musical sounds like in It's Gonna Rain. In other words, judged as music rather than judged as a mash-up, I think it stands up. It also has a very quiet Third Eye Blind "goood BYYYYE" echoing all the Semi Charmed Life in Mouth Silence, which I think is a nice little tie-up. I also have a soft spot for this shit being both banas and banananas.
You couldn't be more wrong about Shit; it's one of the greatest compositions in history. It's clever in more ways than I can count and everything fits together and transitions between the different mashups so fluidly. That's on top of the basic fact that it's just a banger and you should feel bad for not letting yourself enjoy it like you obviously could.

I can't believe you don't enjoy how effective "Shit" was as a jock jam and encore after this masterpiece of an album
as someone who really, really likes samples in music, this album is unlike anything i have ever heard in my life. annoyed grunt is one of the most impressive displays of sampling genius i've ever heard. to put just So Many samples in one song and not only have them flow together to make it sound cohesive but ALSO have every single sample be perfectly recognizable to maintain that classic moment of hilarious recognition in which you think "wait... is that...?" and then it comes around again and you just can't help but laugh hysterically--it's perfect.
I can't stop listening to this album, I love it. I'd have to agree with the rating here. You peeps just based that Neil out does your favorite musicians just by joking than they do taking themselves seriously.
I was waiting for you to address the clusterfuck of amazing samples in Annoyed Grunt. Definitely my favorite song on the album. This is actually groundbreaking
I personally believe this album's story is about a boy growing up, going through puberty, being depressed, getting in with the bad crowd, getting out, going though failed relationships, experimenting with his sexuality, and finding himself.

Comedy is as justifiable and important as any other genre. Those saying this doesn't deserve a review or good rating fail to appreciate the editing mastery going on here. The shock and laughter and genuine emotion Neil brings from combing 90s pop is worth, in my opinion, 9/10 at a minimum.

I used to watch Neil's Videos when I was in middle school. I love that he remains active, this is a hilarious release.
Technically it's very well made, but I can't see myself listening to this very much. I'm just not really a fan of "comedy" albums.

I had that same opinion, but then I heard Imagine all star people. Really changed my mind on comedy mashups.
I feel that's the thing with meme albums. This one was fantastic and so were the ones before it, but it's not just something to come back to when you actually want to listen to music.
I love how there's a debate raging about this album being 9 when they could be spending the time listening to this album. Absolutely brilliant and hilarious, I've show cuts from this to at least 10 people and the reaction is always side-splitting laughter, especially over T.I.M.E.

whenever I feel down, I just listen to the first 20sec of AC/VC. brightens my day everytime.
I loved the previous projects he made. Would never have found them if it wasn't for your channel. Honestly these mashups have a sort of chaotic and cathartic effect in that they are so off the wall that you just can't help but lose your inhibitions a bit and embrace the memes.

The thing I love about Neil's mouth series (especially Bustin) is that his tracks effortlessly walk the line between TH-cam Poop and well crafted pieces of musical collage.

I think the last track is defensible on Steve Reich grounds: the "really really really" loops phase in and out like Piano Phase and also, by repetition, lose their meaning and become pure musical sounds like in It's Gonna Rain. In other words, judged as music rather than judged as a mash-up, I think it stands up. It also has a very quiet Third Eye Blind "goood BYYYYE" echoing all the Semi Charmed Life in Mouth Silence, which I think is a nice little tie-up.
I also have a soft spot for this shit being both banas and banananas.
Neil's videos is what got me hooked to TH-cam back in the day, from the Harry Potter puppets to that big prank with all of those Game Boys... *sigh*
You couldn't be more wrong about Shit; it's one of the greatest compositions in history. It's clever in more ways than I can count and everything fits together and transitions between the different mashups so fluidly. That's on top of the basic fact that it's just a banger and you should feel bad for not letting yourself enjoy it like you obviously could.
