      I'm a major proponent of repair and keep on using. For everything else brand new that went into the boat, this is a contrast. The only things I'd suggest is etching primer, and keeping those 2x4s. Yes the grommets are absolutely required. Very well done all around.

    A friend of mine gave me a dual jet ski trailer and I converted it into a 5x10 regular trailer. Given the prices today, well worth the time and effort.

    *It's a lot like me doing work to rebuild a guitar( and I do it when they're brand new. Very little money in materials, *but the labor is easily a few hundred dollars of work.*
    I've been hot-rodding my Vitachi/Yamaha Raptor Clone, and I'm at maybe $100 in parts, but now easily a grand in labor.

    Hey I have a really cool build idea for you , the manned drone Jetson, it may cost more than it's worth or out of your budget but it is really cool and looks like it would really be fun, without unlimited range they are really just an expensive toy without enough range to go anywhere you want, unlimited range would be awesome but at this time it does not exist.

    Crimp connectors are usually better where vibration/shaking occurs due to work hardening. Solder is never used in aviation applications for example.

      Thanks, several have pointed this out to me. I'm glad the TH-cam community helps one another out.

    I think you made a good call buying a used trailer. Given the unique size and weight of your jet boat, you probably would have modified a jet ski trailer or modify a new larger trailer. I think you are better off modifying a used larger trailer.

    Curt or Reese brand bearing buddies. My trailer sees salt water water exclusively. They hold up well and are considerably less expensive. I thought your trailer was in good condition. When I got mine I did axle, hubs, springs, fenders tires bearings wiring lights and weld a new tongue. Yeah

    Before I watch the vid, a fair/ok boat trailer around here is about 350. Firat glance if trailer, good deal, id sy its good enough to use already though but some people cant leave good enough alone. Especially mr perfect here. You wanna know what the enemy of all projects are/is ?Perfection. Could you try to let nice enough pass?

    Thanks, bought the solder connectors. I was wondering if you could use the end pieces of the trailer you're cutting off to extent the winch?

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they won't be long enough.

  • @dcrahn
    @dcrahn ปีที่แล้ว

    Leave the trailer long. Just make a cross beam that can be bolted down just like the rest of the trailer. Move the winch mount there.

    See if you can't find a company that works with galvanized steel and ask if they have a scrap piece in the dimensions you need that you can buy from them.

    I don't know if it was worth it or not, if you're happy with it and it was worth it to you that's all that matters.

    Do not use those shitty Chineseium heatshrink solder crimps. The low temperature pot metal solar falls apart. Use some normal inline butt connectors and cover with high-quality 3.1 ratio adhesive heatshrink if used in a marine installation. Or otherwise, just traditionally solder the wiring and use heatshrink. You'll have endless dry joints and dead shorts in no time

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I'll keep that in mind beore I start hacking up the wiring harness.

      Evidence, tests, reviews? I'm not doubting your bad experience, but there's nothing wrong with the technique itself.

    What the heck....??? You never put the boat on the trailer!!! ha ha ha Still cheaper than a new trailer by far! I just bought a new trailer to ship my new kit boat on 18 hours away. It was 1400 canadian. would have cost me 1800 to ship . When ya gonna get it wet?

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't want to put the boat on the trailer until I am done with it. It is easier to move around the shop with the dolly it sits on now. Hopefully getting wet soon.
