This is the best explanation I encountered. Its simplicity stands out! Thank you Kristian.

Been looking to design my own dice and I’m a complete beginner. Your videos are gonna be a great help even if I don’t have quite the grasp on what you are doing.

Sometimes I don't grasp anything I'm doing 😀 The solutions I have to some of the solids is a bit confusing then you only see the workflow.
And I wanted to keep the video as short as possible.

This is such a brilliant way of doing it, really really ingenious. Thank you!

Cheers for this! I had to go through 2 times but eventually got it sorted. Will be going through more of your lessons.

This one is a little special to follow ;)

wow. i was "successful" taking on the same first approach as yourself but encountered the same issue with the selectable faces. Cheers to you

This is insane, I love it, haha. Thanks!

Still working on the three dimensions (diameter of the 1st polygon and height of the two squares in sketch 1) in this one in order to get the faces to the same area. But it's great fun! Thanks.

The first polygon (pentagon) and the 2 squares should only be connected using constrains, then you set the dimension you wan't for the dodecahedron.
I did this video early in the morning and it's a quiet speedy video only to show how to do the Dodecahedron. If you are a beginner it might be tough to follow along as I don't explain every command, fell free to ask a question if you get stuck 😀 Small tips: check that the sketches are constrained (the lock on sketch in tree top left) check that you project and coincident from sketch to sketch to keep things connected and there should only be one real dimension.

@@KristianLaholm Gotcha. Thanks for replying. And yes, you did say it was 5.30am!😯

I managed to get it sort out after some backwards and forwards with measurements. The faces aren't exactly the same area, but damn close!

    • @KristianLaholm
      @KristianLaholm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

The faces should all be the same area, mine are with 9 numbers precision. Check that you are getting the constrains (midpoint and coincident) correct in the first sketch and in the following sketches that you get the projections correct. Share your file and I can have a look (Right click the model in the Data Panel and choose "Share Publik Link" and post link here)

@@KristianLaholm Hi Kristian, it's very good of you to offer your help! In fact, I have a problem with this shape - the areas of the 10 pentagonal 'side faces' are larger than the areas of the 'top' and 'bottom' faces. Here's the file - a360.co/3lRcuJr
I have tried adjusting the constraints etc, but nothing has helped. The above link is to the fie as I created it from this tutorial.
Any help is very much appreciated!

I am always looking at your videos with amazement. I just dont understand how you come up with all the helper lines and polygons. How do you invent that? The same with the Icosphere and all the other geometrical shapes. I would really like to understand how you create certain construction geometry for reference? Do you study a geometrical shape and just try to visualize all relations etcetera? For me it looks like magic and I would love to understand how you do that, thank you very much! In the mean time I try to understand it myself, but I am having a hard time with it 😀

The workflow in the videos are the result of different testing and playing around.
I often start with a correct polygon or with image of one from all direktions and start playing around, sometimes I find workflows in other software and try to adapt to my thinking (no math and no angles)

@@KristianLaholm cool!! Thank you for explaining this!! I like this way of designing. It also reminds me of projection-based modeling, where you have a single sketch and model something in 3D using one simple sketch.

Thanks, I have a feeling that more and more people "forget" to like and share this days, and the platforms we are sharing info on are growing so fast it's hard to be noticed.
