    Ashes Quarry, just out the back and on the edge of Stanhope, is
    surrounded by the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
    In it's hay day, here, hundreds of men toiled by hand using only the most primitive of tools to dig the great limestone out of the Weardale fells.
    They left behind a huge, mile-long hole in the ground which today, over 80 years since they downed tools, nature is slowly reclaiming.
    A beautiful and peaceful place overlooking such a beautiful village in such a fascinating and once industrious area of Durham.
    At the end of the video you can clearly see the Elephant Trees standing proud at the top of the Weardale Way, high above Frosterley. • Elephant Trees, Weardale
