Hi Doug, A bit of mashed together session. The wind was way too high. Four second subs were a struggle, as you can tell from the FWHM readings, but with such limited observing this and last month I had to give it a go. I hope the weather is calmer and clearer in your neck of the woods.
In the old days, next to the scope, I used CdC as my main planetarium app. I rarely use it now. The positives to me, is that its object positioning appears very accurate and it supports the 1.8 billion Gaia star catalogue (you can download for free). It also requires less system resources than the more graphical planetarium applications. It has scripting and external access interfaces. Its own method and SAMP are supported. On the negative side its UI is clunky and it doesn't play nice with PowerToys (pinning apps etc). Overall I prefer Stellarium, but then there are features in CdC, Starry Night and TheSky that I wish Stellarium supported. I'm pretty planetarium-agnostic at the end of the day as shown by my control software that can use all three of the main planetarium's I use. In this video, I wanted to integrate Aladin into the workflow to make up for the lack of visualisation in TheSky Pro. Aladin appears to be a feature rich application backed up by a huge set of data that it can visualise. I might be on a bit of a learning curve with Aladin :-)
Fun session! Appreciate you, Pete!!!
Thanks Doug.
yay! Another session with Pete!!! 🎉🎉🎉

Pete, how would you contrast CDC with Stellarium?
