  • In this video we show you the end result of our camper van conversion project - and what you can do with an old van, a little imagination and a lot of hard work!
This concentrates on “what” we have achieved, with other videos in the series explaining “how” we did things and “why”.
    We hope you enjoy it.

Looks great job done very well!
I’m looking at doing the front end conversion on my 2005 that I’ve had for years. This was a great help seeing you do it. 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻

I have really enjoyed your very professional video’s. Your narration is very professional as is your planning and technical abilities. Your van transformation is truly amazing and very well thought out to suit yourselves. I have a 2008 LWB 1.9 which is fully professionally converted using all the best components such as SCA roof etc. Having watched your video’s you have given me the confidence to facelift the front of my van to the 6.1 using the company you recommend (Travelin Lite)
Thank you very much for your fantastic video’s. Subscribed 😁😁.

Many thanks for the positive comments - which make the video making process worthwhile. We certainly don’t do it for the money! Good luck with the new front end. Just do it methodically and you’ll be fine - it certainly looks fantastic. Cheers N & S

Absolutely incredible.. I have been thinking about a u shape with van build. This looks so bespoke.

Many thanks! We’re currently in the Scottish Highlands enjoying the van. The u-shape certainly works for us. Best wishes. N & S

Good evening ! I just watched the entire van conversion series, I admire your work. I have a question, can the driving position also be replaced by that of the T6.1? Dashboard, steering wheel...
I live in Germany, and there is a car junkyard not far from my house, and every day I see this damaged T6.1 calling me, I wonder if the interior is recyclable?

Many thanks! My understanding is that it is possible to upgrade the interior cabin area with T6.1 parts but I haven’t tried myself so can’t say so definitively. I also know that you can retrofit later instrument clusters but need to be careful again about compatibility. I’d be inclined to contact Travelin Lite who supplied my front end upgrade parts to see what they can advise. They also supply later instrument clusters, cruise control kits, etc. Thanks for taking an interest in the video series - and best wishes from Scotland! N

Thanks for sharing this video! This is one of the nicest T5 conversations I’ve seen, so open and light, it’s beautiful.
Do you still have plenty of headroom while sat in your seating area? We’ve just bought a u-shaped flat pack for out T4 but it looks like we’ll be touching the roof after putting foam on it!

Hi, thanks for your kind comments! We have plenty headroom in the pop top area when sitting up straight but tend to sit with our feet up lounging. Your head can touch the edge of the roof when sitting back so you tend not to. We have very thick cushions but in all honesty I’d probably have gone with thinner ones to prevent this. The u-shape is defo best for us though. Best wishes. N & S

@@highergroundlifestyle that’s fab, thanks so much for your reply! We did wonder if we actually need 10cm cushions or if we could go smaller.
We just found your channel this evening and enjoying all your videos 😀 p.s. love the cheeky drinks cabinet 🍷

nice little van, what was the total spend after buying the van? like me not everyone has 50 grand for a factory conversion, i like how compact it is . edit, never mind ive just seen the link to the costs video, enjoy your van.

Cheers. Prices are all genuine so a very reasonable understanding of what you could spend, although you don’t need a new front end, windows or pop top - I just wanted them!

You've made a fantastic Campervan but do you get the feeling of was it woth it. Its still got a old engine and the rust will still try and get through. Im not trying to be nasty just being honest. It reminds me of people trying to turn a Mr2 into a ferrari. And i imagine it wouldn't of been cheap. Sorry for the critical view its just my opinion.

    • @highergroundlifestyle

…and you are entitled to it! But the reality is that VW vans start rusting at less than 2 years old and I’d rather take a £10k hit than a £50k one. I’m not trying to turn an MR2 into a Ferrari, I’m trying to turn an MR2 into a better MR2 - for a fraction of the cost/risk of a new one. I also had a huge amount of fun doing the project and now have a van I’m proud off that I built myself! The reality is that I could have gone out and bought a new California for cash but instead I saved £75k and had a lot of fun into the process. Sometimes you have to look at the world with better eyes…

@@highergroundlifestyle I appreciate your reply to my comments just at the moment I'm starting to have problems with mine mechanically its a 15 plate. So it just makes me think is it better having a newer van for the newer engine or keep spending on a 8 year old engine that's done 153,000 miles. It's a catch 22 situation and like you said it all comes down to money. Yours definitely looks like a £75,000 Van. Hope the engine keeps going strong for you. All best 👌 👍
