    I grew up visiting the museum every two weeks, spending hours looking at the ship models, now no longer available? They were the heart of this museum along with the drawings also not Available?

      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The museum has turned into an interactive playground for children in the style of a ship! So I was disappointed to see only 5 models...

      In fact, this is all that was interesting in this museum! The online museum is much more interesting - more models in good quality pictures...

      So it's true! At that time, all the big trees disappeared during the construction of these ships)))

    Great video 📹 Olha.
    It is great to still know that the world is preserving such wonderful ships
    So we can teach our children on how the world 🌎 once worked.
    Not just through war but also through trade and exploration.

    The photos are fantastic, you have talent :))
    Too bad, only 5 models, but they are incredible.
    I don't know if there are many modelers like me but I have a preference for models without veils.
    Seeing all this rigging and its complexity really impresses me.

      I was very disappointed to see only 5 models. Because in fact, Greenwich has the largest collection of models that I dream of seeing in reality one day, and not in an online catalog...

    Your videos in this style are almost an ASMR, heheheh ... it conveys a calm, combined with the perfect editing work ;D .
    Those glazed parts in the back of the old ships were the bridge ?? Dangerous place in a naval battle ! Beijos !!

    Through investigation, it now transpires that many of the model ships have been transferred to Chatham Docks museum?

    The models need sails... Now they look like sitting ducks. Even with the sails not open, it would look more realistic.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a Navy Board Ship Models, when the hull was not planked below the wales, or one side of the ship. Very often, such models were even made without masts, and if they were installed, then only a rigging without sails... The logic is probably that a ship without planking cannot sail, therefore sails are not appropriate...

    Was there 3 years ago, beeing so disappointed about the small number of admirality models on display. I had expected to see, literally, dozens of them. That's what I came for... 😔

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was expecting the same and therefore I was just as disappointed (((The museum turned into an interactive children's playground...

  • @dugan6056

    The models are locked in a climate controlled warehouse at Chatham dockyard. You can request to see a limited number of them which will be brought out of storage.
    The decision to remove them from view was in order to bring in more visitors and cater for the young.
    Needless to say the modelling community was horrified, and still is.
    As a child in the sixties I would visit the NMM and the Science Museum, which had a comparable collection, and take great delight in the models. I see no reason why children today wouldn't appreciate them.
    I have given my views to both museums, but was dismissed while they described the purpose of the new exhibitions! "Progress" "the way forward".
    Perhaps we should act en masse and submit a petition??

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will support such a petition if I have the right to vote! These treasures cannot be hidden! Especially with the current wave of popularization of modeling, thanks to DeAgostini magazines and the like. Children are happy to build models and learn their history...
