  • I push my mind and body to its limit with only a few months of training and a goal to paddle across the state of Missouri in the MR340 (Missouri River 340) on a Stand-Up Paddle Board.

      Thanks, that is super nice of you! Appreciate you watching. I should probably make a video about that but since the race, I've got an unlimited board which I would use for any long race. More speed and efficiency and less effort at a higher pace. For navigation, in relation to gear, probably a Garmin Fenix watch. Longer enough battery life to last the whole event and built-in maps on the watch.

    Great video! I have to wonder about that course though--340 miles? Goofy. Irresponsible. What does a 340-mile course decide that a 100-mile course can't determine? The current obsession with ultra-distance events is weird. Exercise is supposed to be beneficial, not self-destructive. Sorry for the rant. Did you say 2 months paddle training and then did this MR340?? Madness. Beautiful madness. Congrats on pushing through to the finish! You've discovered the stoke for sure. :) May I warn you NOT to look at events going around Europe. Few ultras here with nice scenic views to boot. I've done the 11 Cities in Holland couple of times, Great Glen in Scotland, Dordogne Intégrale in France and now with travel restriction easing off, the hunt for next long water slog is back. It's a different kind of high from running isn't it. And man you definitely got a good choice of gears with that beautiful SIC RS, Flow X and that shorter Zre. Bravo Bravo Bravo Hero! Hope to see you on the water somewhere.

    • @supmission
      @supmission 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelCarson1 With your body mass I think you could have gone even faster with the 23 or 21.5 RS board.. But you're right on paddle technique. It is crucial especially for ultras. A clean catch with full blade is key especially when you're tired.

    • @MichaelCarson1
      @MichaelCarson1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@supmission Funny you mention that! You're 100% correct but I'm glad I started on the 24.5 because of my lack of SUP experience. It was challenging for me at first but I adapted pretty quickly to it in my conditions. I'm glad I started there and not with anything more narrow, truthfully. I actually have an RS 21.5 at the paddle shop that just came in that I'm going to pick up. Super excited about it! I also kind of went all in on a custom King's Unlimited 18x23 that I just got back from picking up. I've been on it a couple times now. Wow, what an experience! Both boards kind of happened at the same time, wasn't expecting that. I think 14x21.5 and 18x23 will be a great combo! I plan on doing some videos about the whole journey.

    Michael, great video! I'm looking to SUP the MR340 next year and in the market for a new board. I see in the comments that there were few other SIC's out there, do you have any feedback or recommendations as I start my search for a new board?

    • @MichaelCarson1
      @MichaelCarson1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jeremy, that's great! I think the board choice really depends on where you are skill-wise. You can really do it on just about anything. I'd try to focus on the mental aspect, being adaptable in the face of challenges, having solutions in place before the problem arises, nutrition (key). A flatwater board will do fine or even an inflatable as a lot of people use them. The more narrow you go, the more difficult it becomes. Most people use 26" and up as well as a cooler or box/egg crate of some type for sitting. So many things! I need to do a video on it.
