A classic brazilian saturday morning at SBT TV in the 90s: - Chaves (El Chavo) - Pica-Pau (Woody Woodpecker) - Cavalo de Fogo (Wildfire) - Centurions - Silverhawks (because Rede Globo had long seized Thundercats rights) You´d eventually get bored and play your good old SMS or Genesis rental games like MÔNICA NO CASTELO DO DRAGÃO or any other TecToy ripoff lol

Woody woodpecker is just one of those cartoons that kids got hours upon hours of on open signal tv If any character had to have brazil-only shovelware, it's no surprise that's him... Him or El Chavo :P
I saw that title and I was like "what the heck, is TH-cam drunk with that translation thing?", but nope, it's really one of the games that was only released here. For context, this is a game that was released by a company called TecToy, that had a long history of relationship with Sega's consoles, which is why many brazilians would remember playing Sega Genesis more than NES, the only NES machine around here was kind of a ripoff (which is why you still see Sega Genesis units, known as Mega Drive around here, being sold officially to this day at toy sections in stores). Because of that, TecToy had some liberty into developing their own games, mostly developing games aimed to us, the brazilian audience. One of the most memorable by them was "Show do Milhão", the brazilian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", but of course there would be some wacky games coming from them. Also, the reason why Woody Woodpecker is popular there is mostly due to the 1960's version of him, and he got a very good PT-BR dubbing (good use of slangs, even when they sound dated). As someone said to him, he matches well with some of our humor, but I think the charm came mostly because of his voice and the gags. It was one of those Saturday-morning cartoons that we just loved to watch. Ah, and to this day, Woody Woodpecker is a stockpile for brazilian memes here and there, so that's how much we love Pica-Pau :)
I'm still surprised that Woody Woodpecker is so popular in Brazil. When I first learned that, I was like "Wait, what?" EDIT: These graphics are pretty good! Kicks the butt of that Tom and Jerry SNES game.
Woody woodpecker is a looooot famous here in Brazil 'cause of the dubbing (it's a lot of memes and funny things that became famous phrases in our vocabulary ) xD

The culture is different of course but many of the situations can easily parallel the life of a middle class Brazilian kid. Myself included. That shootout in new years episode? That's basically Rio. People mugging you on the street so casually they'll let you go for some spare change? We have those. Dads working multiple mundane jobs for hours on end and being stingy with money? Just call my dad Julius and we have the same person. Underage driving, fake IDs, penny pinching for any sort of entertainment, bad infrastructure and law enforcement. Might as well say the whole country is 1980's Brooklyn at this point.
