I would have thought adding a shot of literally anything, including Malort, would improve it. I know taste is subjective, but I refuse to believe there a more than three or four people in the world who would truly enjoy a 28% beer, and they're just massive outliers in human tastes.

The Sam Adams corp. missed a huge opportunity to Ice PVIII here. The look on his face as he opened that fancy box only to see a Smirnoff Ice looking back at him would have been worth enough to purchase one of these Utopias in ANY state I say, American or otherwise

I can't even imagine the resell prices on this. Years ago I worked at a good beer store in my town, we got our yearly single case of Goose Island Bourbon County. It's nothing $$$ wise compared to this. But a guy called and offered my boss 5x the price to sell him the entire case. I think it was $18 a bottle back then, so he was ready to drop over a G on some damn beer. This wouldn't be a beer to me, I love beer, especially IPA/DIPA/Hazy IPA's, but can't stand hard alcohol, so this would be completely lost on me. Same with Bourbon County, and that's much closer to a beer than this. I tried a few of the 13%'ish barrel aged we sold and I wasn't a fan. That said, if someone I knew had a bottle I would definitely try a sip to see what it's like.

Much of their beer is barrel aged, and they do tend to have special releases here and there that get up near or at 20%, and tend to be aged in barrels for at least a decent chuck of time or longer than that utopias. As an example, I had a wheated stout from them that had been aged a total of 57 months between a brandy and port barrel. It still is my personal top 5 beers of all time, and it is called doube barrel derivation brandy port 2022. Cost much less than a utopias as well, could get at least three DBDBP for one of those utopias. Would have to drink them on-site, though.
Eh goose island bourbon county and central waters brewers reserve expressions are just as good if not better depending. Absolutely more available and affordable… and just as complex. Still a pain in the ass once a year thing but yeah. Black Friday ish traditionally. All coming from a wine and spirits management veteran.
You should do a tasting of the Sink the Bismarck by BrewDog out of Scotland. %41 ABV. Its retired now, but im sure a rich, succesful, handsome sommelier like yourself could aqcuire a bottle.

I blame my father for my taste in fancy beers. He never had Miller or Coors in the fridge back when I was a teenager. Sam Adams was a brand he bought often. I'd steal a couple and just deal with the tongue lashing.
I was gifted a beautiful blue bottle of Sam Adams Triple Bock back in '94 when I was 21 and, I have to admit, it may have been too early in my palettes maturity...LOL I had no idea that 17% beer tasted like Soy Sauce...😅😅😅
I've always been skeptical of how this would taste. Any time I've had beer that started to get higher than 10 to 12% there has been this raw alcohol flavor that cuts right through and dominates everything else. It's quite off-putting.

Honestly the resale is and never was crazy for this. Most craft beer snobs turn up their nose to anything Boston Beer produces.
Had a sifter of the ‘15 and it was amazing, burned the nose like bourbon and the multitudes of flavors and layers to it was mind blowing
