Born as Feroze Jehangir Ghandy to a Parsi family at the Tehmulji Nariman Hospital also known as Parsi Lying-in Hospital situated in Fort, Bombay; his parents, Jehangir Faredoon Ghandy and Ratimai (née Commissariat), lived in Nauroji Natakwala Bhawan in Khetwadi Mohalla in Bombay. His father Jahangir was a marine engineer in Killick Nixon and was later promoted as a warrant engineer.[5][6] Feroze was the youngest of the five children with two brothers Dorab and Faridun Jehangir,[7][8] and two sisters, Tehmina Kershashp and Aloo Dastur. The family had migrated to Bombay from Bharuch (now in South Gujarat) where their ancestral home, which belonged to his grandfather, still exists in Kotpariwad.[9]
In the early 1920s, after the death of his father, Feroze and his mother moved to Allahabad to live with his unmarried maternal aunt, Shirin Commissariat, a surgeon at the city's Lady Dufferin Hospital (biographer Katherine Frank has speculated that Feroze was in fact the biological son of Shirin Commissariat.[10]) He attended the Vidya Mandir High School and then graduated from the British-staffed Ewing Christian College.

Forget about the religion of Gandhi family. Firoz Gandhi was a wonderful person with lots of qualities like great father, orator, never supported wrong things or say did whatever he thought was correct like opposing Nehru ji and Indira ji’s decisions, had respect for opposition hence gave money for his opposition candidate for fighting election against himself, it proves he believed in true democracy. What a shame that Congress has forgotten him. Congress has done this with many great persons like Netaj Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and to this also. He remains were kept in Prayagraj where no one goes. Neither Indira ji visited it nor its family members. They used to go at Mahatma Gandhi’s, Indira ji’s, Rajiv ji’s samadhi sthal but not at Feroz ji’s samadhi sthal. Why? Simple answer is that it suits there dirty politics. Neither a single government scheme nor any Postal Stamp was named after Firoz ji’s name. He was MP from Raebarelli, the seat from where Sonia ji fought election and the only seat from UP won by congress. Even no congressy want to take his name? What an irony of this party. Really Sad. He was a wonderful person and deserved much much better than this. Shame on you congress.

My father, Kameshwar Singh, was in Ewing Christian College before he joined Allahabad University. He took part in the freedom struggle and was imprisoned during the Quit India movement in 1942. He was a close friend of Feroze. He had recorded the wedding of Feroze and Indira on a 8 mm film. In fact, he had several films about the Nehru family and the annual congress sessions including the historic session in 1942. Sometime in the 80s or 90s he had given all the films to a family member who lived in Bombay to get copies made. After his death in 1998, I managed to get all the films back. Surprisingly, the film of the wedding was missing.

BBC made a good attempt to give Feroze his rightful place in history. It made two factual errors in this documentary -
1. Ratti Mai Gandhy did not discuss the "Kamla-Feroze" affair with Gandhiji at Allahabad after Motilal's death as this documentary claims. Ratti Mai wanted her son Feroze to study and stay away from Freedom movement in which he had been jailed many times.
2. Relation between Feroze and Indira did not sour within a year of their marriage as this documentary wants us to believe. They married on 26/03/1942 and their relationship was as strong as ever even after his release from Faizabad Prison in July 1943.
Apart from these two errors, Feroze's close bonding with Lal Bahadur Shastri was conspicuously absent from this documentary. Bertil Falk, the author of Feroze the forgotten Gandhi, wrote about this bonding at length but the BBC seemed to be more interested in his affairs than his equation with Shastri. Or did you really read Bertil Falk's book before making this documentary?
Feroz gandhi was not a Muslim as many people think...he was a Persian..
Persians are a minority communities not only in India but also in whole world..but despite of being minority they are a wealthy educated and influential community...our first nuclear scientist Homi Jahangir bhabha and famous industrialist Jamshed Ji Tata belongs to this community...
They are basically from Iran who came in Gujrat centuries ago in India via sea.. Persians are fire worshipper.. After advent of Islam arabi invaders converted all fire worshippers in Muslim religion...some of them saved there life and took refuge in other parts of world basically in India..

his real name was firoz jehangir . He belongs to a parasi muslim family and some times people called him firoz khan also . At the time of his marriage ,with Mrs. indira gandhi , his father in law Mr. jawaharlal nehru was upset with this marriage being a muslim married to his hindu daughter . and than Shri Mahatama gandhi did mediation between both and suggested firoz to adopt his surname "Gandhi" just because to show people of india that firoz is actually a relative of Mr. gandhi and not the originally a muslim

Feroze joined the freedom struggles in 1930, and inspired by Gandhiji, he made his spelling Gandhi from Ghandi.
