- Storing liquid hydrogen means that the tank structure needs to withstand very low temperatures down to -253°C and a pressure range between 2 and 10 bars. In addition, the tank needs to be extremely robust, hydrogen gas-tight, and lightweight to meet commercial aircraft demands. According to the results of a dedicated working group on climate-neutral aviation (BMWK and BMDV), the segment of aircraft with a capacity of 100 seats and a range of 1000 NM is a suitable reference point for current studies. Therefore, the UpLift ground-based test rig enables testing of related full-size composite tank caps under realistic operational boundary conditions, especially suited for this segment of future short-range aircraft.
