    A smoothing electrolytic of 1,000u delivers a ripple of about 5v for a supply of 1 amp. This is RULE OF THUMB to remember when designing a power supply. So this supply needs 10,000u minimum.

  • @engahmeds
    @engahmeds 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    when the output current is 10A, each resistor has current of 5A, so the voltage drop on each one ohm resistor is 5V. in this case each resistor should dissipate 25W, while your resistors 5W only !

    • @wernerpeter9706
      @wernerpeter9706 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your calculation is only correct in the event of a short circuit. With normal use, a few volts should still be available for the connected load, i.e. the voltage drop across the resistors should not be 5 volts.
      The weak points are rather the small capacitor after the rectifier and the undersized heat sink. Calculate the power dissipation of the transistors when a small voltage with a lot of amperes is set.

    • @hp2073
      @hp2073 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wernerpeter9706 no difference. Short circuit in a cc supply does not necessarily mean highest current. Power resistors are under rated

    • @engahmeds
      @engahmeds 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wernerpeter9706 also in case of full load which is 10A , my calculation is correct

      Sorry - that was actually a 1 ohm resistor on the emitter, so in the end I didn't look properly. Yes, you are right, this is a nice heater. 0.1 ohms would be enough to stabilize the load. But then there are still the problems I mentioned.

  • @vigisbigtm

  • @colin55111
    @colin55111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The 5 watt resistors will get seriously hot when 5 amps is flowing and will FALL OFF THE BOARD. They need to be heat-sinked via large tracks on the underside of the PCB to prevent them falling off.
    The whole layout is a complete disaster.
    Remember this:
    Power supplies up to 1 amp are easy to design as most component will allow 1 amp to flow for a short period of time.
    When it comes to 2, 3, 5 amps you have to heat-sink everything .
    And when you get to 10 AMP you have to know WHAT YOU ARE DOING. The heat dissipated in EVERYTHING becomes enormous and nothing in this project has been designed correctly.
    Just build it and try to deliver 10 amps and watch everything GO UP IN SMOKE. Send us videos of everything smoking !!

  • @JackSparrow-oq6iv
    @JackSparrow-oq6iv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    You put 2 resistors 1Ohm 5W . If the output current is 10A it means that through 1 resistor flows 5A current. P= I*I*R in this case P=5A*5A*1Ohm=25W it means 5 times more power than it can reach ceause it's only 5W. Maximum output current you can withstand with these resistors is 4.5 A.

    • @ravirao5798

    hello sir
    I Micky, i am following you for a long period. Sir, i want to make this supply along with SMPS board in a AC stabilizer box ( I have a burnt stabilizer). I have 10 amp. 12-0-12 transformer but it is big to install in the box. can i give input supply of +12 and -12 from smps instead of transformer. what will be the maximum current and votage? kindly reply sir. ( I By mistake post this question in your another video, SORRY) Your videos really inspires

    Please explain how the current control circuit works, Thank you.

    • @colin55111
      @colin55111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The circuit does not have CURRENT CONTROL. It has VOLTAGE CONTROL and the device you are supplying will take CURRENT according to the voltage you deliver to it.
