I just finished reading David Cecil's Melbourne, the biography that Rufus Sewell read before filming and where he came to really admire Lord Melbourne. Many details of that bio have found their way into the series. RS makes that grand statesman come alive, in the best role I've ever seen him in.
I think she had it already, but his duty stood in the way of it. But yeah I love to think about it as well, I think she would've felt complete and happy and he would've always supported her in any way unlike albert did.

They struck gold when they got Rufus for this part. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Lord M with such dignity, grace and passion.
