      This happens in life sometimes. Sucks that it took him 6 months of work to realize he wants to stay. But again life is weird like that at times. And if he's gonna stay 10 plus years like he says might as well build exactly what you want. He's blessed to have the resources & team to do it so 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Imagine being the neighbors around him, like:
    "Oh, someone bought that place and they're fixing it up. Awesome"
    And then you watch them move the front door, raise the ceilings, raise to garage roof, and then ... Demo everything except the garage after 6 months of work! 🤔

      Shouldn't he be taking some advice first , I mean , taking a big step yourself is fine and all , but you should take into perspective the other perspective . Opportunity cost of this rebuild can give better optimum roi .

    He realized a basic remodel wasn't going to earn him money since he bought the house without a wedge. He had buyers remorse, and now just decided to YOLO and turn it into his personal dream house. I also imagine we haven't seen the last redraw of his plans for the house, he seems intent on spending his wealth and using sponsors to offset some of the costs to build it. But if he plans to live and retire in it, I'm sure he'll be very happy in the long-run, and have the envy of the entire neighborhood.

    Buying a 500K house and spending God knows how much money to remodel it just to spend more money knocking it down LOL. Would have been way cheaper to just buy some land and some building permits.

    This reminds me of the car world when people buy budget sports cars, put more than the cost of the sports car they are targeting to beat into them, then put a sticker or badge on it that its XYZ killer. I have a neighbor who bought a brand new 2019 Mustang 2.3L ecoboost for 32K, then dropped 10k+ on a turbo kit, suspension, and new wheels on the car before it even got its first oil change and slapped on a sticker on the back window that says "corvette killer" and swears his car is better than my bone stock 2017 Corvette 1LT I bought for 34k brand new.

    The hashtag you picked for your discount code is perfect! I was thinking along similar lines but you cut it down to just a few words that summed it up. I think this video would be a good learning tool as an example of what happens to people when they get emotionally invested. Hell I suffer from it myself even knowing better. I agree with your reaction from a business making money perspective. Which I am endeavoring to learn and emulate.
    Although i’m really happy for Matt that he’s made it to the point where he can spend that type of money still have a smile on his face and get what he wants in his house. Plus let’s not forget that he is creating a wedge deal for whoever buys the property next I believe you talked about that type of wedge in one of your lessons.

    Tbh, the neighborhood is nicer than it may appear. Plus it’s close-in, near really high end shopping/dining, great schools and bigly, Apple’s new multi-billion dollar campus is just down the street. Austin prices are already on a tear and have been for years. This neighborhood will probably be a top performer over the next decade or so he plans to stay there, so at sell time he’ll do just fine even with all the “over improvements.”

    The most expensive VRBO or rental I’ve seen to date.
    In all seriousness he’s finding excuses to spend money.
    Storage buy or build a shed. $1000 - $10,000 max depending on what all you need stored.
    This dude literally went from VRBO to personal remodel to foundation and has blown 6 months to another 4/5 months of new construction.......what a waste you won’t even recoup half of that money back. 🤦🏼‍♂️

    I'm sure that he will will be changing the plumbing layout to accommodate the new plans. So, he will be breaking up portions of the slab for new drain lines.

      Meet Kevin it’s been a problem at my workplace. There is a project with a set of requirements, and the requirements changed as we went through the project resulting in...huge cost of redesign/labor etc. To avoid Matt’s project creep, a set of hard requirements must be set before starting the work, and a risk analysis matrix should be created (possible problem, probability, and what solution for it).

      I was thinking the same thing. He hired an architect for a budget remodel, then he gutted the house and made even more extravagant plans, then he bulldozed all the progress to start over. I'd never want someone like that to manage my projects.
      I love Matt and I love his videos. I'd love to build a house from the ground up using a lot of his advice and product recommendations, but this project has been a disaster.

    Like Honey I know we where gonna budget 15k for a new truck but the one I looked at had rat fesces in the engine bay. Also head room was tight, could fit in there with my 10 gallon hat on. So I bought a new f150 platinum for $80k. I really fell in love with the truck. Kids love the truck. And depreciation, right? In a few years truck will only be 15k anyway so why not?

    I think the saving grace for Matt is that 1 it’s gonna be his future house. But 2 it’s also a great new video series for him so hopefully he can recoup some of the money that way.

    I largely agree with you, Kevin. There's a guy in my neck of the woods who came into a chunk of money, and he added an entire second story to his typical ranch-style house. It looks seriously out of place, and is a great example of "over-improving" - much like this video shows.

    You would be amazed where I am how many of these still good quality 500k homes get bought and torn down and rebuilt bigger in these older neighbourhoods and then the house looks stupid and sticks out like a sore thumb

    In California all around LA majority of the garages are 1 car garage and a narrow driveway, the cheapest houses around $400 to $550 have most 1 bath only and under 1000 sqft The houses in LA are really very small unless it's been completed renovated or new construction, $600 and up. People in Texas are spoiled.

    I rebuilt whole house under the roof ( no permit - too much $ and delay ) could see ocean from the roof . Put $2500 steel beam in attic to attach future Second story floor joists .
    Lived in then sold ( for a Profit )
    Had a Randolph Heart duck lodge down the street ; ( great coast neighborhood- historic). When for yourself , can’t really showcase as investment worthy.
    Evidently, can sell and earn some $

    I'm 100% with Kevin on this. It is not a strict business decision but at the same time the plot looks fantastic and if Apple are coming the sort of home he is building will be in short supply. He is a contractor so he wants to promote development, so it makes perfect sense for his channel. Hell he'll probably get work doing tons of houses in Austin on the back of this, others are bound to follow his lead as the area goes up. I just don't get why you don't get it Kevin, just a different strat that's all.
