WE WANT SEASON 2 ALREADY!!!
After working on devices for so long, have you considered creating a device yourself?
Season 2: x number of episodes, how much can you make? For example, season one you made around 9.75 per episode. What if season 2 was , can I make 10 per episode over 25 episodes? Then the episodes are set vs the amount you have to achieve. The season will be labeled pass or fail and there is an end in sight for you and not just opened ended season. It will build tension for the viewers.
OR
Season 2: build a system from scratch buying all of the components and putting together the system then auctioning it off on eBay at the end.
Take a short break, then start season 2

Agreed. Perhaps add a new item you may want to do as well as a product that you think that we could learn from watching you repair. Something unique. Perhaps c.b. or ham radio repair base stations.

You have purchased a console from a company that advertised it as defective. If in the end the solution was simple, it is not your problem, you have taken the risk that it was irreparable, so in my opinion you are right to take the profit. Next time the company should better review the items it sells.
Even if it were from a private seller, you would STILL be justified in selling it and keeping the profit. But considering doing something different is the right thing to do and feels good.

Season 2 Time!!!! But then different types of products. Maybe GPU's, Phones, random household appliances?
The answer is season 2: Target of $2000 profit... and try to get there before 104 episodes (double speed). I think that during this season you have gotten much better at buying things. You have had a few stinkers, but generally your buying skill has improved over time. I think as an example that you are seeing the benefits of buying bulk lots as it gets your price per unit down near the bottom while giving you some good overall results.
I would also like to see a little more on the resale side for the units that remain unfixed. I can't help but thinking that some of your early season 1 losses could have been mitigated with better results in selling the dead ones. Perhaps every 20 or 30 episodes you have to clear out the failures as a job lot and just add that back in as income.
No matter what, keep it up. You are getting better at this every day.

I'd suggest an oscilloscope and maaaaaybe stocking up on a few parts from aliexpress in bulk beforehand, y'know, to get some of that sweet bulk discount.
I could even suggest a name for s02. "No console left behind!" where an honest to god attempt is made to fix every single one, with every console beyond repair labeled and then used for parts.

@@hasiconejito We might be. A few years ago I worked as a minion for an electrician, kind of an electrician's apprentice though I wasn't really studying. What I did learn, I used to try and keep stuff from going to the trash when it's life could be extended. I once delayed a 12 year old lcd tv from going to landfill by about a year and a half by insisting on getting permission to open it up and replacing a couple capacitors. I even see delaying stuff having to be thrown away as a small victory.
@@OlafurArons Yup, a scope would be a good shout, and pre-buying parts in bulk can help the cost side a bit too.
First off, congratulations on hitting 1k! I have been along for a good chunk of the journey. It has been really fun to see you learn and grow so much. I came along right after you decided to do this full time. It is really exciting to see an end to season 1.
Second, I ran a pretty high volume corporate ebay store for about 10 years. At our peak, we were doing 60 sales a day. So high volume, low profit kind of stuff. But I had most of it automated through the ebay API, so it was a fairly easy job. The orders would process automatically into our accounting software and then print out into the warehouse to ship. Hard to get set up, but once it was running, it was a cherry job. I was more of a customer service guy once I got everything set up for them.
I can assure you, that company has absolutely zero love for you. You shouldn't feel bad at all for keeping the profit off of that switch, as they would gladly profit off of a mistake on your part, I assure you. My boss only cared about numbers, so as long as the store was up and running smoothly, he didn't care about anything beyond that.

Its not called water damage if it still works. It is called water ingress as long as you state that you shouldn't feel bad selling it.
the water damage means the components might fail or the displa or the soc had problems, sometimes is not as clear as when it is all rusted, corroded and with green stuff everywhere, but clearly something happened to it
declare it is dependant of who saw it first, put it on the ultrasonic cleaner, not cleaned all components, changed pieces and then sold it so we could see it here

Honestly, the kind of work you’ve gone into is like stocks, you’re taking all the risk by spending your money, only difference is you don’t lose part of your money when you make profit. To sell something you spent your time and money on would be like giving stocks back after they’ve climbed in value because you felt bad for buying them when they were cheap. Modesty shouldn’t come in the way of making honest profit.

I’ve personally been watching since the early teens. I watched you quit your job, I’ve been and interacted on many a live stream. And I’m genuinely and almost weirdly very proud of you.

I think if you do the second season for this make it 100 episodes with the aim to see how much you can make in that timeframe, or see if you make poor decisions in buying repair lots that end in the negative.

I say do a season with phones or cameras or some other types of devices than video game consoles. Or go all retro. Personally I think season 1 dragged on too long and you should do smaller goals or challenges as seasons so you get more variety. Maybe instead of monetary value go for a quantity fixed like 100 of 'X' saved from the dumpster. No matter what "themed" seasons I think would be an improvement and add a fun little twist.
Sat here waiting for season 2.....😵💫 C'mon JDT bring it on with some unusual electrical items.

S2 = 2000 profit plus a few different electronic things to help grow your electronic knowledge.
If I was in your shoes and the Switch came from a private seller, I'd do the same and sell it back to them. Coming from a business however, they would immediately relist it and pocket the profit. You made the right call.

I would also to suggest a couple things. 1. Would you consider give another name instead of just Sally for other season’s? That would be interesting, and then you could compare seasons by name and how much profit each has earned you and how fast, so if one sad day the show ends, you would end up with a bunch of names, just like they were people? Idk, something to explore.
2. Would you consider to risk a little more in a new season? What I mean is, I would love to see you try and fix other devices more often, like Steam decks, macbooks, iphones, android devices, foldables, etc…

Im a bit confused on the oled switch, how did you know it needed a new housing and wasn't something like a corroded screen connector or circuitry related to the display?
Imagine that. Youve checked all the boxes, ssd in ps5, yep(even though it was causing the fault), game in switch (check), and micro sd in switch (check).

Crazy idea, but rather than just straight repairing, buy some old retro hardware that is either broken or worse for wear but still functional, clean them up, then do some modifications. Screen mods for old handhelds, RGB output for various other consoles, etc. The value add would allow you to set a more ambitious profit target as well.

I think your next series should be Repairing Gaming consoles and handhelds from the Atari to PS5 Pro (When Released). Fixing and selling them as you work through the history of gaming consoles.

I want next season to have more data. Along with the profit it would be interesting to see roughly how much time was spent. It would also be interesting if you could rate how proficient you are at repairing each device. For instance a low rating would be given when attempting to fix a device with no experience.
Id love a big multi episode project. Building something from scratch maybe. something you've been wanting to do for ages.

Maybe throw some old school consoles (SNES, Mega Drive, AMIGA, Game Boy etc) into the mix? Must be some faulty one's knocking about that might sell for some a bit. Maybe go hunting at some local auctions? Facebook (*shudder*) marketplace? eBay of course. Gumtree?
Or maybe just stick with the formula that works!

well done my friend, I would love to see you do all consoles not just the newer ones. it would be a cool series to try and find and repair one of each console ( no need for the pricey ones ) and if you want to get spicy add some mods to them.
Personally wouldn't care for this channel to move into random appliances, etc. I feel like there is enough of that as is and the issues in common household appliances rarely require true in depth knowledge and troubleshooting. That being said, I would love to see some new products besides gaming consoles make an appearance. Congrats!

Okay Joey, you had your Origins season completed, but now is all about getting ready for Season 2: "Revenge of the Fallen Consoles".
Ruleset:
- You need to have exactly 3 items each episode (we like the long videos). You can also make a shorter version and double your revenue.
- You cannot have the same console appears more than once on an episode. So no two PS5s shenanigans, even if one is a different model.
- Special episode fixing an unusual electronic for profit every 10 episodes.
- You MUST try to fix every single different console, so get ready to practice your PS2, PS3, etc maintenance skills.

First, it would've been morally totally okay to take that profit, even if there wasn't an issue with the port. They probably profited off some poor guy somewhere.
Second, how about a new profit or loss, but no game consoles? It'll challenge you every time and you can attract new viewers. Cameras, lenses, tools, electric instruments, medical devices, etc.

I found your channel on Episode 85 or so... Then, found your livestreams and made awesome connections along the way in chat. Seriously, your channel and videos are amazing and I am glad I got a chance to see your channel succeed! Well earned!
Congrats on completing season 1! As a side note, I think it might be cool if you got a Nintendo Switch (maybe an OLED model) that had a faulty screen but that docked and made one of those custom "console" mods for the switch. You put the motherboard in a shell and have room to add cooling fans and other mods, basically a permanently docked Nintendo Switch.
