Gosha is an older guy, who has always treated Yahya equally and respectfully, shared his views and dreams, helped in the moment of danger. That's why the breaking apart moment does actually feel like a betrayal to Yahya: his figure of admiration, his closest, dearest friend and support willingly decided to leave his side. Gosha was not a lover nor a friend, Gosha was Yahya's partner, with whom he was ready to fulfill their most sacred dreams. That move may also be the reason to the child's-like selfishness in Yahya's words and actions, when it comes to Gosha. Logically assuming, Yahya failed to grow up after that. He's conserved his mind in the concept of "betrayal" and because of it failed to understand Gosha's philosophy which should have came to him in these 36 years, too. After living in the states for a while, I can see the homosexual argument. Just know Japanese tends to be very literal with the term, "We ride together, we die together!" So friend ship is like much more solidified compared to what I seen in state side. Western pov would deem it as gay and I can see why they would think that. We shall see if this goes for a more Japanese traditional approach or more westernized approach.
Well here's the thing. Yafya has been obsessed with a komodo dragon for 36 to 40 years and projects his angry and frustration on carnivores and hybrid because your friend married a wolf? And it doesn't helped the fact he's isnt married but sleeps with female horse while saying this is great and normal total normal to sleep with your species. It sounds like he's trying to convince himself
Ok, here what I think I’ve realized about Yafya. I think he’s a version of Nietzche’s Übermensch. In his most famous book, Thus Spoke Zarathustra , he underlined the Übermensch ( or Overman) as a societal beacon that gives hope and changes the world for the better. Yafya is the Beastar, who’s job is to give hope to society and guide morals. He is the shining, most perfect version of what the world could produce, and he acts to fill that role. The Übermensch has to set out to actively be involved in changing society and has to exist above normal morals to do what he sees fit ( like Yafya’s punishment for the carnivores). However, I think Paru knew what the Übermensch was: impractical. To be perfect like that and exist above all other creatures makes you devoid of all connections, especially the ones you cared about. Yafya, in my eyes, is a realistic portrait of the Übermensch philosophy. In contrast, Gosha is a version of the less popular but still relevant “Last man”, the anthesis of the Übermensch created by Neitzsche. To the Last Man, life is as it is. He strives not for being exceptional, and only lives to be mediocre. He lives in a herd instinct, satisfied with society and its treatment of him. (Like how he wasn’t willing to cause a ruckus when those herbivores gave him shit about his poison in the restaurant) However, unlike Yafya, Gosha is happy. Living a normal life has afforded him attachments and he’s content with them. He had a chance to be an Übermensch, but chose love instead and was willing to not change the world if it meant living a happy and fulfilling life. The Last Man, who is what Neitzsche believed was what no person should be, is what Paru knew every person deep down wanted. Oof that was a rant. Hopefully that made an ounce of sense.
as much as i love it, the manga is pretty heteronormative, but i do appreciate the mere inclusion of a lesbian character. and ita paru does know enough about lgbt to at least consider something like this.
But isn't Gosha's whole thing was he loved his wife and family very very much ? As of rn it would feel out of character for Gosha ( from what i can gather) , he gives off the vibe of staying single till death out of respect and love for his late wife . If it happens , I hope it's not just a jumbled mess.
@@savontorres2140 I think it would be nice to show him moving on, there's something so sad about seeing a vibrant character like Gosha estranged from his friends and family. He deserves companionship in his old age, he has so much love to give (plus I feel that he would only be killed off otherwise)
One of Yafya's first big scenes being a masked party specifically catering to homosexual and interspecies hook ups for repressed elites wasn't an accident and I absolutely agree that he's definitely gay or bi, most likely repressed gay, and that he has been following compulsory heterosexuality due to how effectively he was brainwashed by propaganda crossed with his loss of Gosha and the pressure of being the Beastar. I think there's a bit Too Much subtext and evidence to ignore this, and I agree that his interaction with the horse woman was shallow and forced, whereas he describes Gosha with a genuine tenderness and affection?? And he really does treat the loss like a break up. I also think it's important to see the parallels here between him and Louis once again, and Louis has his own share of gay subtext in relation to Legosi but that's a whole other essay, isn't it? (I think Louis is bi and Yafya is gay though)
Yeah because i find rather odd that he mentioned it's great and normal to have sex with female from your own species like he's trying to convince himself
When we discovered yafya he was complaining about the fact that most of couple were same-species and *heterosexuals* 👁️👄👁️ Just putting that here do whatever you want with it Edit: Oh sorry I just checked and actually I misunderstood he is just saying that interspecial love and heterosexual love are normal but dangerous, but If I was confused that mean that there is a chance that it was intentional, I still have hope !!! (Ch.103 if you want to check)
I mean him having a crush on Gosha wouldn't be too strange from what we've seen. He planned to spend his life in a partnership with his best friend, who left him to become a father and date a woman, which left him bitter and disillusioned. He wouldn't have confessed to Gosha in a love sense because it would have too much stigma (predator and prey, two men, one of them has venom). After his best friend/crush left him he tried to achieve perfection in the eyes of society but he was still empty inside.
Maybe I'm thinking too deep about it, but I tend to look for animal symbolism and how they relate to their roles in Beastars. As THE Beastar we actually see, Yafya lives up the horse's symbolism of victory (like the thoroughbred racehorses bred for winning), confidence, and independence. Gosha is a little more elusive, but if we apply elements of the mythical dragon to him, he'd be more like a symbol of wisdom beyond his years, which pairs well with people who are forward thinkers, like Gosha and Yafya. Yafya's forward thinking initially was about becoming a Beastar, but grew stagnant after he achieved it without Gosha. Gosha's forward thinking is more about being able to let go of the bad things in life to live in peace. I think it makes the two of them really compatible, and I do think potential sparks have passed between the two of them, but Gosha fell in love with someone else, and Yafya is a bit too occupied with maintaining this visage of the peerless symbol of justice as a Beastar. Sorry if it got a little long winded!
Patrick, this is one of your best video essays yet. I see a bright future ahead of you my friend, because of the following: i) You have the technical prowess & knowledge to create something of meaning and value in the form of an in-depth video analysis of characters and story. This requires intelligence and an ability to use tech & software to compile an incredible amount of information, research and opinion into a succinct and entertaining piece. ii) You have the charisma to recruit talented folks to work on the project that will bring it to life. In addition you have recruited folks you can trust and admire to help run a community of your own (via Discord, for the record at present, two of them in fact). iii) You have heart. You care about people and you care about the work you put in - this adds authenticity to your projects. Personalizing it brings the best out of projects especially when there is a meaningful connection made from your own experiences. Your hope is that your message connects with people and it did. Here's to more! Having said all that I love how you covered a lot of interesting aspects of Yafya, particularly how he is written in the story to be the sublime BEASTARS only to find out that he is an extremely flawed character. Makes the world we live in relatable while rooting for characters and lore in the story. I will also point out how you had links to Yafya and what he's going through. Amazingly, this past week I've been experiencing something of my own that is potentially life changing, one that is seen as a sign of growth and maturity in the stages of adulthood, and one that can be seen as fragile & painful that can divert into two very different paths: bitterness, selfishness and disdain, or, contentment, selflessness and humility. It's only been a few days and I'm praying and doing my best to find the light towards the second path. Thanks to a combination of deep reflection, advice from people I trust and love, and experiencing your video analysis that touched based some deep things I'm going through this past week - just as Yafya, and yourself did - you have contributed to that healing process and not only do I want to thank you for that, but also, be proud of yourself for being you and doing what you do. Keep on inspiring Patrick.

as someone whose favorite character of literally all time is yahya, this video put literally ALL of my thoughts and feelings about him into words. im literally ecstatic over how similarly we think of yahya and his complexity--thank you so much for making this!!! its a bit freaky how similarly we think (about yahya and even ibuki LOL)
Very well done character highlight of Yafya. Sheds more light on him, and encourages a heads-up on any future manga episodes of him. Oh yeah....The voice acting was spot on! A huge thanks to all the voice actors in this work!
That scene with Yahya in the dark amongst the carnivores is awesome. And when the lights come back on and his hard work was validated... that's gonna make me cry in the anime. For damn sure.
I honestly see Yafya as asexual. I also see him as aromantic with the massive exception of Gosha. Their relationship is so complex and, as a writer, I adore it. I'll admit I'm not completely sold on Yafya (as a "person", as a character he knocks it out of the park) but Im super excited to see more of his development and growth.
Yafya doesn’t say that same-species and heterosexual relationships are normal, he’s saying that interspecial (different-species, same-species would be intraspecial) and heterosexuality are examples of how people are attracted to those that are different from themselves
Yo tho your take on Yafya being gay and how he justified sleeping with a female horse to 'represent peace in society'..... he could have also slept with her to, in his head, spite Gosha... who got involved with a separate species....
Check out the discord, Patrick will usually post something in the voice acting hub chat when he wants to cast roles. I don’t know when the next one is but I’d look there. :)
the scene after the lights out, with herbivores and carnivores holding hands... is probably my favorite scene in the entire series. i dont usually cry easily while reading mangas, but that part destroyed me ;u; yafya (yahya???) grew so much it's *beautiful*
oh there is actually a reason for the mistranslation. much like with melon, the syllables are the same. japan has no syllable for "hu". it uses "fu" instead. like everyone else whose mistranslation was corrected, his name has a theme to it. melon's theme is obvious. yahya is named after the baptist of the same name. also just realized. because they are lions, it actualy IS the mafia and not the yakuza. lions are an italy thing.

He is as well written as he is handsome Something that I noticed was after he slept with a lady horse he goes on to do 2 things 1. When she asks what he likes about her he basically says "well, ya know, typical horse things" 2. He spouts heteronormative rhetoric, talking about how straight and same species is how it should be Than there is his relationship with Gosha and his various, indirectly suggestive comments that really makes you think about where he really stands on the spectrum

"Won't show up in the anime till 2022"
Laughs in Season 3 2024
I can’t wait for the Gouhin character analysis, it’s been so long since we’ve seen him.
I think "money doesn't buy happiness" doesn't quite fit because I think it's supposed to be, "Success doesn't mean happiness."
the video isn’t even out yet and someone disliked wtf who hurt you (also! I totally agree that the voice acting in this video is so great! I can’t wait to see more!)
I could actually see Gosha and Yafya getting together at the end of the manga. I don't think that's too far out there as far as predictions go
as much as i love it, the manga is pretty heteronormative, but i do appreciate the mere inclusion of a lesbian character. and ita paru does know enough about lgbt to at least consider something like this.
He deserves companionship in his old age, he has so much love to give (plus I feel that he would only be killed off otherwise)
i mean, i can't see them getting together, but i can definitely see a confession
I just want Yahya to come out and for Legosi to take his grandpa with him when he settles down.
When we discovered yafya he was complaining about the fact that most of couple were same-species and *heterosexuals* 👁️👄👁️
Just putting that here do whatever you want with it
Edit: Oh sorry I just checked and actually I misunderstood he is just saying that interspecial love and heterosexual love are normal but dangerous, but If I was confused that mean that there is a chance that it was intentional, I still have hope !!!
(Ch.103 if you want to check)
Me thinks he has the big gay
(Gay horses are something that happens)
Yagsga
I mean him having a crush on Gosha wouldn't be too strange from what we've seen. He planned to spend his life in a partnership with his best friend, who left him to become a father and date a woman, which left him bitter and disillusioned. He wouldn't have confessed to Gosha in a love sense because it would have too much stigma (predator and prey, two men, one of them has venom). After his best friend/crush left him he tried to achieve perfection in the eyes of society but he was still empty inside.
Wait did he phrase it like this?
I really want a Zaguan video. He has to be the most wholesome character in Beastars and I love him so much
Who?
Ive heard similar analysis with louis’ deer and legoshi’s wolf and how their animals symbolism plays into their personalities
Patrick, this is one of your best video essays yet.
I see a bright future ahead of you my friend, because of the following:
i) You have the technical prowess & knowledge to create something of meaning and value in the form of an in-depth video analysis of characters and story.
Elson, I’m so glad that this video had an impact on you. I’m very happy to be part of this huge community and I’m so glad to have met you and your crew. It’s so much fun talking and working with you guys. Also Elson, I’m hoping that everything gets better on your end and that you’ll make it out bright and happy after everything and everything will be okay. You’re an amazing guy and you got this!
as someone whose favorite character of literally all time is yahya, this video put literally ALL of my thoughts and feelings about him into words. im literally ecstatic over how similarly we think of yahya and his complexity--thank you so much for making this!!! its a bit freaky how similarly we think (about yahya and even ibuki LOL)
also to add--i think yahya is bisexual!!! that's mostly me projecting my own sexuality onto him but i feel it also fits him best
I too believe that Yafya is in love with Gosha and remember this man has stayed single in his fifties...
Very well done character highlight of Yafya. Sheds more light on him, and encourages a heads-up on any future manga episodes of him. Oh yeah....The voice acting was spot on! A huge thanks to all the voice actors in this work!
Thank you! I’ll tell the VAs you said that
That scene with Yahya in the dark amongst the carnivores is awesome. And when the lights come back on and his hard work was validated... that's gonna make me cry in the anime. For damn sure.
This was by far the best video you've done pat!
Woah-
Kamui mircale is really intelligent- I love watching these videos
2022 huh its 2024 and its just now he came in the anime
Can we get a "SAD HORSE MAN" in chat?
Man horse sad f
SAD HORSE MAN
bojack?
@@dominogaming4745 hey is that the horse from horsin around
I honestly see Yafya as asexual. I also see him as aromantic with the massive exception of Gosha. Their relationship is so complex and, as a writer, I adore it.
I'll admit I'm not completely sold on Yafya (as a "person", as a character he knocks it out of the park) but Im super excited to see more of his development and growth.
In my opinion I see him as a suppress homosexual or bi sexual
That would be super interesting!! Ace/Aro people barely get any representation
I see him as a grey asexual
i love listening to a guy who kins a horse for 30 minutes
The voice actors are so good!
Thank you! It means a lot
Watching your videos while beastars is ending is making me nostalgic
Yafya doesn’t say that same-species and heterosexual relationships are normal, he’s saying that interspecial (different-species, same-species would be intraspecial) and heterosexuality are examples of how people are attracted to those that are different from themselves
Yo tho your take on Yafya being gay and how he justified sleeping with a female horse to 'represent peace in society'..... he could have also slept with her to, in his head, spite Gosha... who got involved with a separate species....
Loved the voice acting, really made the video 200% for me
I don’t know how you find your voice actors but I wanted to throw my hat in the ring and say that I’d love to contribute to one of your videos
Check out the discord, Patrick will usually post something in the voice acting hub chat when he wants to cast roles. I don’t know when the next one is but I’d look there. :)
I really wasn't surprised when I saw the Yafya shrine.
I really enjoy how much I can tell how much you love and appreciate this manga ❤️
“It was a way of life.” Shows FEMC.
Me: Ah, a man of culture.
Also, Raidou and Jack Frost.
Me: We share interests.
Yafya really went “There is no joy in having 360 degree vision if Gosha is not within my line of sight” and if that aint gay-
the scene after the lights out, with herbivores and carnivores holding hands... is probably my favorite scene in the entire series. i dont usually cry easily while reading mangas, but that part destroyed me ;u;
yafya (yahya???) grew so much it's *beautiful*
Theres so much of Gosha in Legosi and I love their happy, dumb smiles
Lastest beastar comic in a nutshell: Agat does cool landing
"I hope Yahya doesn't die"
Me:Hohehhyehyho...that's definitely gonna happen now...
Rip depressed horse man I guess
Nobody:
Me when Yafya closed the door: HEHE K I S S Y T I M E
oh there is actually a reason for the mistranslation. much like with melon, the syllables are the same. japan has no syllable for "hu". it uses "fu" instead. like everyone else whose mistranslation was corrected, his name has a theme to it. melon's theme is obvious. yahya is named after the baptist of the same name.
also just realized. because they are lions, it actualy IS the mafia and not the yakuza. lions are an italy thing.
I’ve always loved your videos, thanks to your vids I have motivation to work. I can’t thank you more then this, I hope to see more.
Thank you for the support!
Hey man you're not alone here i lost my senior year too my prom my graduation ceremony and i wished it didn't happen but it happened all i can do is accept it and move on and great content as always
And remember you're a king.
I feel you at the end there man. I’m studying acting at university in the UK and it was supposed to be a grand affair with all your friends all graduating and partying and looking to the future. At the same time though I’m really kinda grateful for quarantine since it gave me and many others time to reflect on what’s really important and not getting lost in the daily grind. Staying present like you said is the most important thing ❤️
One of your best videos yet
2024 is when he shows up actually
Always look forward to these videos. Amazing job!
Yafya I hope you're going to have a great Christmas so merry Christmas
horsie :D
Horseee
Conrad Fimbres *TWINKLE TOES*
Yay a horse daddy analysis
horse wHAT-
Bokack is number one horse long face
And I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want bokack to be your dad, there was a WHOLE SEASON of reasons why you shouldn't want that.
Will this video be taking down like the others?...
Let's hope not haha. My Komaeda Video, I still can't get the copyright off of it, but like I'm still trying
I believe it meant to spelt "yahya", because in japanese alphabet spelling H and F kinda similar, so the english translator kinda missed it. Yahya is a name from middle East I think, maybe the author inspiration came from there
I hate it how legosi took his all teeth off and o prove his point even tho there is other is other thing he could have done to avoid conflict
He could've achieved the same result by wearing a muzzle during the fight
Yafya is just so complex I love him
I love this video thank you so much!! I finally understand Yayfa and I love his opposite with Gosha! I love his character now thank you! I'm so excited for your next beastars videos!!!!!
I can't wait to see him in the next season
Wonder what path we’re gonna take, r we in a simulation???
'raaay.... Horsin' around with Yafya in 2022!
Yafya vs. Yahya is like Legosi vs. Legoshi: one of them is objectively correct, and one of them is objectively better
hay man as a fellow graduated student. I understand how you feel. love your content and keep the good work!
This video is pretty epic man. Amazing job guys.
Jeez this was amazingly done with the voices
I feel that loss when you talk about losing your senior year. I graduated High School this year as well and I understand how underwhelming this last year was for Seniors. I'm sorry you had to miss out on so much.
looveeee your videos! yafya is my fav character so.. thanks again
I can't wait for season 3
U explained this guy so well
Yafya is basically Bojack but with unresolved Gosha issues instead of parental trauma.
Good job on the editing the VAs were amazing too
Yafya's intense self hatred and insecurity scream 'closet case' to me. This is my expert former closet case opinion
Everyone: omg Louis and Legoshi BIG GAY 😍😍
Yafya: *Sad gay laughing*
I mean it makes sense, me and people I know who are gay became stunted in expressing emotions from not understanding our own or being told it means something else
Yahya is an Arabic male name means “long living = يحيى 😂
Ah yes, a man of true quality and commitment
Okay but after this video I now have a much deeper appreciation for Yafya, I was very hesitant about him. Now I’m just like holy shit he’s really dope
I’ve seen this video 4 times but only now just caught that “Way of life” reference. I love it here
Makes me excited for season 2
I have Yafya listed under the Devil arcana. I explored this on reddit a long time ago.
Bruh I missed all of this when I was reading the manga thanks
He is as well written as he is handsome
Something that I noticed was after he slept with a lady horse he goes on to do 2 things
1. When she asks what he likes about her he basically says "well, ya know, typical horse things"
2. He spouts heteronormative rhetoric, talking about how straight and same species is how it should be
Than there is his relationship with Gosha and his various, indirectly suggestive comments that really makes you think about where he really stands on the spectrum
Yafya's redemption should be the Carrot Redemption Arc
