If Mario were to, say, grab Izzy or Bowser Jr. and use him as a human shield against Bowser before beating him silly with their Koopa shell then it’d be different, there’s no hostage element in what Mario’s doing.

Basilisx is specifically using Luigi because he knows Mario won’t risk shattering his brother (or comrades, I assume he’d probably avoid attacking Sonic or Shadow) and he’s using that knowledge to disrupt Mario’s offense and beat the fuck out of him when the opportunities present themselves.

Man it felt like a final showdown despite the series not being finished. A clash between a hammer swinging plumber vs a dark captain seeking revenge on his hated adversary. And to this day, I'm old as hell, yet its still good.
It’s sad that not only was the series cancelled due to the time constraints, the series being a 1 man job, and a lot of stress from the creator but also that he basically has to start over from scratch and is still stressed. I remember waiting for the next episode to be released when I was little, but was a little sad that it never happened.

I like how the episode has the end fight the same way that I've always liked about Alvin's series. They fight in a video game fashion, where one does the attacking and giving the damage while the other is left to dodge and defend against it but still receives damage and vice versa for the other way around. What made this fight better is the fact that he used somebody else's music that was specifically made for intense battles like this. It truely made Basilisx the very hard boss he is to Mario.

That’s even implied since after the first Koopa fight when they got chaos blasted, Mario carried everyone home despite getting hit with the same attack that knocked even shadow out cold. Mario debatably does the best in scraps outside of mecha sonic but he does have a lot of hax like shadow

The "Team Mario vs Axem rangers vs Koopa bros" is overrated. THIS is the best fight in the series imo. I mean, Basilisx seeking revenge to avenge his best friend, Mario getting some karma with Basilisx using Luigi being the equivalent of Mario using koopa shells, and the fact that it's the only 1v1 fight in the series makes this fight so unique.
it's overrated for a fucking reason, it's amazing. it was a pinnacle fight for it's time. if you imply that because it's overrated that makes it bad or stale, you're just being overdramatic. everyone has their own opinion, i liked the 8 bit fight better than this, but to each their own.
Considering how difficult it is to do group fight animations, I'd argue and say it's one of the best in terms of group fights go along with Monty Oum's dead fantasy. All the combatants are doing something and there is no break. It's just none stop action. It deserves the praise it gets.
Ever notice that about 90% of Bowser's losses against Mario by himself are due to boss arena stupidity (who else puts an axe or self-destruct switch at the end of a bridge for the hero to press). If it weren't for the arena traps working against him, all Bowser has to do is enlarge himself (which he can do naturally if you count Bowser's Inside Story) and it's gg.
Here's a wild guess of what happens next... Mario uses one of the 1-up mushrooms he packed to reverse the effect of the poison mushrooms and kicks Basilisk's can... Here's another: Luigi gets out of stone form since he's got a Tanooki suit.
After playing Frontiers, I think that if Sonic was in Mario’s place especially with that Flame transformation he had on, Basilisx wouldn’t have been able to even touch him.

@alvinartwork this is truly the best storyline I have ever seen, the fact that Mario gets butt handed to him by basilix already says, not to mention Mecha Sonic utterly dominating the series right now. I instantly knew that this would b a great series when I saw bowser turn to metal bowser in ep 2 and kick Mario's azz. Then the dialogue is amazing to Sonic's flashback was moving then Dr. Frankly's story of the hidden pipe in ep 7 plus the music made the atmosphere extremely ominous.
I wish Nintendo would hold a “submit a character” contest of some kind so Basilisk could have a shot at being in an actual game. Even if he were slightly toned down I would love to fight/play as him.
Imagine this in the remastered version. We've seen Metallix vs. Yoshi and not only the animation goes so hard but everything else about it makes it so much better than the original. I can't wait bro

When he decided to revive the series, Nintendo decided to be huge assholes and shut down his patreon which killed the project again. The quote continues: "I was not even able to mourn him properly because he was burned to cinders." Then again, there is some evidence that Basilisx is making that whole story up, so perhaps further episodes will shed light on it.

Mario was really kicking his ass this whole fight. That’s why Basilisx had to use Luigi as a weapon at the end to throw him off guard because he knew he was about to lose.

And Luigi was right there. Until Mario brought it up, he was just trying to win the fight, not beat Mario ironically. Though he was fine with that regardless He didn't turn him to stone because he personally wanted to kill Mario with his bare hands instead of just turning him to stone and breaking him.

And... Meteor smash!! These fights are freaking amazing. Gives me goosebumps. They're as intense as DBZ itself, and DBZ is known for its legendary fights
The basilisk fight scene is the best yet, maybe second only to the Axem Rangers X fight.
One thing about Alvin, he may take a LONG time to get his videos out but, when he does, they are always of the highest quality.

Yes, well, those are Basilisx's words, not mine. I think the implication was that the friend was still inside the shell when Mario used it. The quote continues: "I was not even able to mourn him properly because he was burned to cinders."
Then again, there is some evidence that Basilisx is making that whole story up, so perhaps further episodes will shed light on it.
You know what? Since, I'm working on flash, I might do a re-creation of this scene. Cause this is the best fight in the episode.

Nobody ever talks about how Basilisk actually has a point lol Mario has used koopa corpses repeatedly to kill other koopas and unpopular beings. This was kinda just karma lol Mario is saved in the end so it ended fine but let’s be honest, he kinda deserved the beat down for that reason specifically lol

This is pretty much the reason why I feel that enemies who fight LIKE YOU, THE PLAYER, are generally much more harder and dangerous than any other boss you meet in a game.
Mario was really kicking his ass this whole fight. That’s why Basilisx had to use Luigi as a weapon at the end to throw him off guard because he knew he was about to lose.

No, the finisher he used here is perfect for him. Henry's move is actually instant-DEATH, due to the fact that he pierced his blade through Travis's body, twice.

The point I'm bringing up is he didn't plan this from the beginning. If he could beat Mario without using Luigi, he wouldve. But he couldn't and needed a new plan. And Luigi was right there. Until Mario brought it up, he was just trying to win the fight, not beat Mario ironically. Though he was fine with that regardless
He didn't turn him to stone because he personally wanted to kill Mario with his bare hands instead of just turning him to stone and breaking him.

@LeoBlaze65 think about it. his hammers R made of an incredibly hard material, so its no suprise that mario hesitated and not attack his own brother fearing he could break him into pieces. stone is no defense against those hammers.
I remember watching this fight on my grandmas old computer and even my mom had stopped at the entrance to the kitchen just to see this fight 😳 and she hates anime
