On this day, the Momotaro family spent the whole day outdoors for the first time in a long time.
Momotaro approached Genki and sniffed her butt.
Gentaro noticed this and pushed away Momotaro on top of Genki.
Momotaro didn't do anything wrong, but it looked like Gentaro was trying to rescue his mother.

⭐️Momotaro ♂(2000/7/3)
Born in Ueno Zoo on July 3, 2000.
His father is Biju and his mother is Momoko.
His father died before he was born and he grew up never knowing his father.
He came to Kyoto City Zoo in 2010 and is now a father of two sons.
⭐️Genki ♀(1986/6/24)
Born on June 24, 1986 at the Kyoto City Zoo.
Her father is Mack and her mother is Hiromi.
When she was 10 years old, she went to Ueno Zoo for breeding purposes.
But she had a bad relationship with another female gorilla, and she injured her fingers and toes with her self-mutilation and lost a lot of weight.
When she returned to her hometown of Kyoto City Zoo, she was fine, and she lived with various male gorillas.
Then she met Momotaro and she gave birth to two lovely sons whom she lovingly raised.
Genki has a cute face with shining eyes.
⭐️Gentaro ♂(2011/12/21))
Gentaro was born at the Kyoto City zoo on Dec.21,2011,as Momotaro and Genki's first son.
Unfortunately Genki didn't have enough milk,so he was nursed by keepers for his first 10.5 months.
Now he loves his mom,and his face really looks like her.
He also loves people .
He is very close with his younger brother Kintaro and they play together almost every day.
⭐️Kintaro ♂(2018/12/19)
Kintaro was born at Kyoto City Zoo on Dec.19,2018.
He has big bright eyes and long eyebrows.
He is growing fine ,being loved by his parents and brother.

ゲンタロウは、ゲンキにいろんなちょっかいをするけど、ゲンキを守りたい気持ちが感じとれました。
いつも、家族の行動を見ていて行動する彼らは、見て見ぬふりが上手い人間とは違う。
ゲンタロウは、かなり成長していて立派な身体です。
オムツして、哺乳瓶でミルクを飲み、ぬいぐるみで遊んでいたゲンタロウを思い出すと、涙がこみ上げてくる思いになります。

They are truly a beautiful family. G-man is looking more and more like his dad. There will be a lot of heartache when he is moved. Poor Kintaro will be pitiful.😢
I wish Kintaro could go with his older brother to live in a bachelor group; he’s probably old enough to be separated from his mom. Then maybe Genki could have another baby, unless the zoo’s decided she’s too old. Or they might even introduce a new younger female to the troop, although I don’t know how Genki would feel about that. But Momotaro is still very young.
@@KathyPrendergast-cu5ci from a community page it looked like they were building separate quarters an it was noted both brothers would go there to begin separation from parents. It’s a complicated process in Japan because Chiba Zoo owns Gentaro an Momotaro an Kyoto owns Genki an Kintaro so it seems it’s more involved moving the animals not to mention that the only viable female in Japan is Annie an Ai who are not related
@@annemariemcnamara8756 Maybe Annie could be introduced to Momotaro. I think the typical practice now is not to try to pair males with females until the males are about 15, and Gentaro is only 12. Momo was very young when he was introduced to Genki, but young female gorillas are usually found to prefer more more mature males.

They sniff them to determine if they’re “in season” and therefore fertile. Quite natural in most mammals in which females have a heat cycle; male dogs and cats do it with females too. If they don’t have that certain scent often the male loses interest. Females that aren’t in season often resist mating too and just stay away from the male, but Genki usually seems fairly cooperative.

Gentaro did that because he is an annoying little pest that has always bothered them when they were trying to mate. He has done this since he was kintaro's age. Of course when the silverback only has one female, they don't see it enough to learn. Gentaro is going to be very awkward if he gets a mate, but I don't think he is mature enough to have a mate yet.
I don't understand why they keep saying Gentaro rescues his mother from Momotaro, that's not what really happened and it gives Momotaro an unfair bad image. Momotaro was just sniffing, and Genki was allowing it, it's how they communicate. Gentaro interrupted out of frustration, because there is only one female and he can't have access to her.
@@geenovagutierrez3594 when gentaro was little and momo and genki would mate, he would slap him and bite him on the leg the whole time. I think the reason momo never corrected him is because he knew that genki would spaz out if he did.
I have seen at another zoo the son mate with the mother. Yet the mother rejected the silverback!
Gentaro is looking more like an adult male. They better move on getting him relocated soon.
The look of complete boredom on their faces say it all. Rescue us if they could talk. The fact no other zoo will allow females to go there says a lot. I was told the enclosure is way too small and no areas for them to roam around. Good that these other zoos know what is right and what is wrong.
