The directors for english lines can make or break a dub. You could get a subpar performance from your absolute favorite English voice actor if the director doesn't give them proper instructions. There are also times where the english dub is specifically told NOT to take the same tonal direction as the japanese dub and I feel that's what was done for this game with some of the demons.
It definitely feels that way. It's goofier for sure and if you want scary horseman demon I could see it being cartoonish and silly in English. I can see why they chose to tone it down! I'm always up for ham so I prefer the kookier Japanese version. Comes down to personal preference in the end.
