I love both versions because they are different but equally great. The mamas and the papas took the focus from the individual singer and made a song that has a chorus as it's center, Diana brought the focus from the chorus back to the singer without losing the core of the song this is what i call a great cover. You should listen her 9th performance on the show "Fly away on wings of wind", it is incredible.

But, once again, I catch myself thinking that I want to listen to the song over and over again just when Diana sings it ....! !! She manages to bring some new thoughts and intonations to the old songs (and much more...) - and it mystically affects the subconscious .... and it already seems, that in the original song sounds somehow quite lean ....

No not so grumpy anymore. I retired a month ago at 65 and I'm learning soo much new music that I never knew was out there in the world. I don't like getting old but Father Time never losses. Послушала я версию mamas and papas и удивилась, какая простенькая, даже в какой-то мере примитивная песня. Диана сделала из нее шедевр. Все ее каверы потрясающие и намного лучше оригиналов. Так что лайк вы не заслужили . Понимаю, что патриотизм прежде всего, но не нужно сравнивать обычное исполнение с шедевральным, как у Дианы!!!
