- A scene can have one of the most craziest balls to the wall action/story/dialogue imaginable, but if the lighting isn't there to match? It might all fall apart.

What I learned from this is I need paper and a second desk lamp

Something I'd like to see improved in future videos is the audio quality. Getting a pop filter for your mic or even a new mic/adjust setting/speak further away can get rid of the "peaking" bits. That's when the input of the audio into the microphone is too high and it clips, making the sound really grating and hard to listen to. Some people don't even really notice it, but for others it makes the video almost unwatchable. It's kind of funny to me, and gives your videos a very workman like low-fi vibe, which I dig, but there are instances where I think it would be beneficial to go the more clean, professional route. Just my two cents because I love your content and I think you're doing really great things for the brickfilming community :)
Holy Crap Lois, it's Forrestfire101!
Thanks for the input! Audio levels are something I’ve definitely been neglecting when mixing and I kinda just place my mic wherever it’s convenient. Glad to hear it definitely sticks out for some people though because I’ve definitely taken the “if no one’s gonna point it out maybe it’s not that bad” approach 😦
Omg forestfire here
Wow ur here
I’m just going to say it before someone else says it. “wHeN iS tHe NeXt lEgO bAtMaN vIdEo”. I don’t mean it I know it’s in the works but I know someone will say it 😒
"I like to say that lighting is about taking the light away. I often like to use the shadows more than the light." - Batman
Dude you're everywhere!
The most useful guide for animators, which isn’t me
Very useful indeed.
Indeed.
Indeed it is.
Indeed, indeed, indeed.
Ultra indeed
petition: edbound try's making a stop motion in stop motion studio on his phone
i sign
And he does it for 1 week on stream
@@GlitchyZooPizzaBoxno sleep allowed either. literally one stream for a week nonstop
Thank you Edbound. Lighting is what I think can separate a normal stopmotion video into a *c i n e m a t i c experience*
Oh i also mask out light flicker too how cool!
Random kid: “Mr, my knee is bleeding, what should I do?”
Edbound: “slap a pirate of paper on it”.
I took a break from watching brickfilm day entries to watch this.
*I Was Not Disappointed*
Edbound deserves way more subs for the amount of work he puts in his videos
Yee
That's true
I agree
One of the most useful tips an animator can use for anything.
This is nice, I need to remember it when people ask questions about an introduction to lighting, really solid intro to lighting stop motion right here.
something i do is once i finish taking the pictures for a scene i edit one in lightroom and make a preset, which i put on all the other photos, making small adjustments for light flicker
Thank you so much for making these videos Edbound. It really helps me improve my stop motion videos quality. those were some good techniques to use for making videos
Great video. Gets straight to the point and delivers lots of nuggets of highly relevant and useful information. I learnt a lot. Many Thanks :-)
Yes I needed this ! Honestly I think lighting is the strongest element of your videos, they look so rich and shiny
I feel personally attacked about the light flicker stuff
Awesome! Thank you Edbound that was really helpful!!!!!
These tutorial style videos are some of my favorites that you do, they are extremely helpful while also really entertaining and funny! Can’t wait to see the Spider-Man short!

Love this video. Not just super Important for brick films or stop motion, but real film making and photography.
Edbound, I've been rewatching your vids all weekend, so remembering today was Monday and seeing this upload was a pleasant surprise! Keep killing it my guy! Also, can't wait for that Spidey short!!
I never find guides that actually help me but this and the set design vid helped a lot
So many useful tips crammed into one video, absolutely fantastic 🙏
My worst fear, Light flicker
SCIENCE MATTERS!! Even in cases like this. Thanks a lot edbound, this REALLY helped me a lot! Thanks you so much! I'll be saying farewell to my poorly lit videos. 🙂😀😉😎
VERY helpful. It was a nice breath of fresh air to hear light flicker is a common problem...other than the common response I get, which is just "get better lighting."
This is very helpful man! Thanks for these tips they really help’

Lightning is indeed really important!
Still think my only problem is having a big enough desk lol
This was really helpful, I’ve worked on Lego animations in my past and well they’ve been really crappy and I haven’t put the time in them but I’m working on an brickfilm which I have about 6months to shoot so this lighting tutorial will really help, thanks
Oh wow that's really useful! Thank you so so much! 👍👍👍
After I used these tips I looked at my old animations and thought gosh what is this junk
I didn’t know that Edbound would make a video today,what a surprise!
This is really gonna help with my upcoming stop motion, maybe if it's for a darker scene but you still wanna make the lighting look natural, you could angle some small LED lights around the characters and inside the set pieces. I never new lighting was this easy!
Thanks Edbound, this was really helpful. I also appreciate how you addressed flicker issues and how no one can avoid it. Can you do a video specifically on how to do proper shadows?
Finally a good LEGO lighting tutorial! I’m going to incorporate this into my next video
Thanks for the paper tip! I only have 1 desk lamp so that's really useful! :)
I was literally just trying to solve this problem with my setup. Perfect timing Edbound.
