  • Hmmm
The "Short Nose" Land Rover Differential.
As fitted to Late 110 TD5 on, and Pumas etc, and P38s
For the 110s this was laughingly supposed to be an upgrade from the Salisbury
Its wasn't, and even with LR improving it (a bit) it still isn't.
The Salisbury that came before was actually a Dana 60 from USA, well the bits that don't break are, the bits that break are the LR added parts - why didn't they just but everything Dana 60, including the HUGE drive shafts etc ...but hey ho.
But, whatever you think f the clunky ancient Salisbury, it is / was a bloody strong Unit, the replacement Short Nose is not a patch on it.
The short nose unit(s) have a series of serious design flaws, add them all together and it really is not a great unit, more so when you look at the applications - commercial, heavy usage, towing 3.5 Tonnes and so on.
Oh, and the massively strong Salisbury only had to put up with soft delivery low power 200 and 300Tdis, now 110s have Tweaked TD5s, and LS1 OM606 and other way more powerful upgrades, even in standard form the Short Nose can only cope for a short time before normally Sh1tting itself, some quite spectacularly ...
So, can much be done ?
What are the various weak spots & problems
Can much be done to beef these Differentials up ?
    Yup.
This video has been a long time in the making, partly due to the massive content required, and to ensure its easy to fully understand both the issues and the upgrades.
Plus we are pretty busy and sometimes have the opportunity for a video to add to the story, and, then clean forget ...DOH
    But, here it is
"Everything that can go wrong with a Short Nose Differential, what the issues are, why they happen, and what option(s) you can have to make these a way stronger unit"
    Enjoy the video
