That country is raw and rugged i drove from Winton to Mt Isa few times, McKinley and Kynuna also Boulia. Remote and isolated, harsh land. Glad i've experienced it.

I remember the ant hills. I went to Mk few times as a child. Cloncurry or as locals call it the Curry, and lived in Mt Isa my dad worked at open cut mine.

Them anthills can take you out on a dirt bike. I went for a ride out past Mary K and they popped up in the middle of the old road

A fascinating place. Now just a memory. All good things must come to an end sometime. Was there in April 2019. A place now steadily being taken over by natural processes. A lonely place now yet also a serene place. For many of the residents, workers and their families this was the most pleasant and happiest time of their younger lives.

My Dad took us to Cloncurry in 1983 and we went to Mary K to look for a car from the Mine Auction. The town was still going, but house were already being moved. We had people put one next to the house my parents were renting in Gregory st Cloncurry. I joined the Railway in Cloncurry in 2000 and worked trains to Mt Isa, Phosphate Hill and Hughenden. Very fond memories of the Area and the people.

Who in there right mind would dig out a uranium mine smackbang in middle of waterways and creeks and not expect long term environmental havoc.
