I know exactly what you mean! I've just put some on (it's a nice companion for morning coffee). It makes me think of French cafés at the dawn of the 20th century.
I’m one of the ten people in the world who don’t enjoy vanilla dominant fragrances! But fascinating video nonetheless. If I were to look for one, I’d definitely want it to be weird! I will admit, I have enjoyed my decant of Vanille Havane from time to time, but I think it’s because it’s so well done and I love tobacco.
Cheers Ryan ,nice vanilla walkthrough, the Guerlain vanilla is quite wonderful, I am also intrigued with the Ambergris/Vanilla accord, not tried any of this genre but sure would like to ,appreciate your thoughts 🙏✌️👍
The Eris Mxxx is lovely and I'll talk more about it in a subsequent video. The ambergris is very heavily dosed in it but still feels rather subtle. The Tiziana Terenzi that does this is Dionisio, but that brand has a lot of batch irregularities so I've never bought a bottle. The sample I had a few years back was very nice, though.
I enjoyed this discussion. I feel the exact same way about the realistic dessert vanillas :) I love to smell those odors in desserts, but I struggle to enjoy wearing them. That being said, all my favorites fragrances have a note of vanilla, but the vanilla is usually present with another primary accord, e.g., woody, fresh spicy, fruity, powdery, etc. One vanilla fragrance I enjoy is Architects Club by Arquiste (although even that has been a bit too vanilla for me to pull for recently!)
I think I get what you’re saying? It’s like now you can pick up a vanilla perfume and it’s like why didn’t you save money by dabbing vanilla extract on instead? Or maybe I missed that point.
Very nice discussion. Yep, as much as I love vanilla/tonka frags, there are certain a few odd-balls out there. There's one from L'Artisan...just can't recall the name right now. Also, I friggin' love the Memoirs Of A Trespasser by Imaginary Authors. Sadly, I can't wear this stuff because it triggers a nasty headache far too often when I wear it. Shame!
Also, Black Flower Mexican Vanilla by Dame Perfumery kinda falls in this odd-ball vanilla category...but in a very good way. Try it if you get an opportunity. Cheers!
Le Parfum was actually one of the first vanillas I ever picked up. Really quite a lovely scent. Took me about 3 weeks to love it though. 🤫 Like you said, that bay leaf takes some getting used to.
I'm one of the people who can't find a vanilla to get on with so I gave up, although lots of my favourite perfumes have some vanilla. I wore SDV for a week and couldn't stand it after that... Anglieque Noire also wasn't my thing. I feel like Tabacco Toscano has a decent vanilla backbone.. I want to check out that Cartier line.
You're the best perfume reviewer on TH-cam. Period.
Thank you for such a stunning compliment.
Fantastic review, you do a great post ! Well done .
Thank you, Nathan!
Angelique Noire is just the most unusual "strange" vanilla for me. It evokes surrealism in a way.

Vanille Havane has such a lovely tobacco accord.
Really insightful video, thanks as always.
Cheers, Joe!

Cheers, Miles. Thanks for watching.

Architects Club is a good one, though it is a bit straightforward for me!

So many of them are exactly that literal. I don't really get the appeal!
You have to try
Mona di orio vanille les nombres d or deff a weird none sweet vanille with lots of spices
I've sampled it! It's definitely a good fit for this category.

That one has been on my radar!

It was love at first sniff for me, but I *really* like bay leaf.

Tobacco Toscano is nice. I had that for a bit.
I enjoy Angelique Noir - but only for so long. The dry down is a bit 'air freshener in a taxi cab' for me. Eek!
I'm happy to say I don't ever get taxi cab vibes from it!
I think I need Lalique le parfum!
You just might! 😉
Ain't nuthin' vanilla about this video! Give us them spicy takes!
🤣
