To describe the pain of stinging nettle for those fortunate enough not to have fallen into it before, it feels almost like a bee sting or an ant bite. Though unlike bee stings and ant bites using baking soda/water, human saliva, or dish soap and water can help soothe the pain.

My grandma used to make salad from stinging nettles in the early spring, from new young sprouts. She'd also boil them a little, then add roasted onions, garlic, oil and done. It was pretty good. But not good to the point of justifying going through the hassle of harvesting it. That's why after she passed away, i've never eaten nettle salad again. On one hand i appreciate it, because that's something very unique (in this case taste) i can associate with childhood time spent at grandparents place. I still remember it's taste, and it reminds me of careless times of innocent childhood. I'm happy with my life, but once in a while i wish i could back in time even for an hour, to re-live those special moments with my sweet grandparents, that are no longer around. Remember, kids, appreciate your grandparents, they are special. Their love and care is unique to them, no one will be able to replicate it. No one. Call them, if you're far, hug them, if you're near, tell them how you love them. Trust me, it's worth it.
I eat a lot of nettles they’re great 😁. It’s best to pick the new shoots in spring, they’re much more tender. Also it’s thought that eating too many nettles from older plants can cause a build up of calcium oxalate crystals and cause kidney stones. The seeds are edible too, they are nutty. I make energy balls with them. And the root is edible. Another project you might like is you can make a very strong cordage from the fibres in the stems. Love your vids by the way 🤘
@@itsConnorCreates yeah give it a go 😁. You’ll be surprised how strong it is. Apparently nettle fibres were used for clothing before cotton became popular too
Stinging nettle is actually super healthy, and can be used as a substitute for spinach! In fact, I've heard stories of how people managed to get by during wartime by eating nettle and dandelion (another really healthy plant). Nettle goes well in place of spinach in spinach pastries, in soups and the stinging nettle tea has a nice, mild, herbal flavour. One important note for future plant harvesting: it's recommended not to take plants that grow by roadsides because of the pollution, but to go a bit deeper into forests and meadows and harvest from there.

If you grip the leafs tightly they wont sting you, so you can harvest them without gloves :) you can also roll them with a rolling pin before processing them to stop the stinging. Also, theyre super nutritious! If i remember correctly, the have about five times as much iron as spinach does, and a lot of vitamin c too. I also heard that you can make fiber from the stems, similar to hemp. A truly amazing plant!
@@itsConnorCreates Too bad it's the wrong iron (Fe3+ instead of Fe2+) and just like spinach it has oxalic acid that blocks the absorption, but instead can give you kidney stones.
I mean stinging nettles as food isn't anything new. My Austrian grandmother prepares them from time to time. Mix them half and half with spinach to make it less pungent.
So, three things: 1, shouldn't forage by the side of the road, there's a lot of chemicals that could get into the plants, 2, grass is actually edible so... keep that in mind one day ;), 3, stinging nettle is great for cordage!
In Italy Is a very common ingredient to many dishes. In my region is even used as a food coloring for pasta (basically we make green tagliatelle and lasagna sheets). The secret Is boiling the plant to prevent stinging and then you can use It as any other veggie
Lol that plant is really common in The Netherlands, it just grows everywhere, and as a kid you would fall in a bush of these at least once a year, btw the place where you live is beautiful

Also pineapple has microscopic spines in them which cut your mouth and the acidity of the pineapple makes the cuts burn so that is why pineapple makes your mouth burn
I’ve not had stinging nettle, which I’ve yet to try near me. But, I have tried purple dead nettle. It is super delicious, it’s like a sweet lettuce almost, with a slight floral taste to it. Best to eat it when it’s spring and purple leaves, or it’s very bitter.

At least now you’ve seen it! And thanks haha I’m a whole new person now
Also pineapple has microscopic spines in them which cut your mouth and the acidity of the pineapple makes the cuts burn so that is why pineapple makes your mouth burn
I also met Coyote Peterson in person before
Woah no way!! I had no clue haha that’s pretty wild!
Isn't it the enzyme bromelain that causes it?
@@CrocoDeluxe and that
That plant was my biggest childhood fear
Now you can conquer your fear by eating them! 😆
Woah interesting!! Sounds good!
Bro!!!! Keep up the good work ❤❤❤❤
Thanks!! I appreciate you and the encouragement 😄🤗
You are going to become a big influencer one day❤!
Thanks for the support and believing in me!
Dude you gotta dry it and make tea! Most refreshing and thirst quenching summer time iced tea in existence!!!
Good idea!!😄
This summer (2024) I went to Colorado and I fell down a hill and got stung by this plant and I had to remove all of it from my legs
Dang! Does not sound fun 😬😆 but at least it’s a memorable trip
Here in Australia I think our stinging nettle is different because the pain last about ten to fifteen minutes
Woah interesting!!
I sometimes drink stinging nettle juice. It quite sweet. You can get it in England.
Interesting! I’ll have to try it when I travel there one day!
@@itsConnorCreates ok!
