Absolutely yes. I got mine last year and have been going through classics I played as a kid in high school. No microtransactions, no pay to win monetizations, no DLCs, no broken games, no preachy political agendas, just pure raw fun gameplay.
PS3 good too especially if you get the infamous games.

I never had a PS2 (played on my Dreamcast, Xbox, and PC), but I did enjoy a few games on there. My all time favorite game was Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.
Ahh, the Dreamcast! My all-time favorite game on that system was a PC port of Star Lancer. That game was ahead of its time. Wish someone would make a proper sequel.

Best console ever made by Sony, for the first time I had a DVD and CD player in one place.
So much nostalgia and love for this console. This is Sony’s prime console. The height of their game. Even to this day Sony will stop short of saying the PS4 or PS5 is on pace to beat the PS2 in lifetime sales. We will never get a console like the PS2 again. We will never see a console with so many bangers left and right. When both Japanese games and Western games gave it their best efforts. The variety, quality, value can’t be matched to this day. The PlayStation peaked with this console and it’s been garbage ever since.

I'm not sure if I could ever choose between the PS2 and the 360, I have so many great memories with both. So many sleepless nights, playing games instead. I remember playing Dynasty Warriors 2, 3, 4, 5, hitting that square button to attact a couple million times. I remember making dozens of wrestlers in Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes the Pain, and taking them into Season Mode. I remember playing Kingdom Hearts day 1, not understanding anything, dying on the first boss, hating the game and giving up. I went back a few months later and it's now one of my favorite games. Tekken Tag and Tekken 5, what a time to be alive. Vice City and San Andreas, Simpsons Road Rage, and Hit & Run (no Skateboarding though). Freedom Fighters.. I fucking loved that one. Def Jam: Fight for N.Y., throwing Snoop Dogg out the window. I'm gonna stop now, I just got a wee bit nostalgic. PS2, great system.
PS: A few deep cuts I really enjoyed: Metropolismania, Largo Winch: Empire Under Threat, Playboy: The Mansion (I played it for the articles), Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, Urban Chaos: Riot Response. What a great console generation.
I still have a ps2 slim from 2005 that works, but no tv with a scart socket -_-. This is why back compat is so important.

I just spent almost 200 dollars on a factory sealed PS2 and 360 controller, waiting for them to come through the mail. Both my consoles are modded to play backups, so excited to get to play them again!

I’ve been doing the same thing but with an Xbox 360 and an OG Xbox. I’m only a wee lad (22) so I was about 7-8 when I got my hands on gaming, so I started with the PS2 but I switched eventually. Just a bunch of games I either missed out on or remember fondly , so when modern gaming is upsetting me I boot up the box. I even took it a step further and got a 2005 Funai 20” LCD Tv for that crisp 480p feel and chair to just sink into. It’s really great.

@RadecStahlThe only thing we're informed of is you're a clown. 90% of the PS2 library isn't available on the PS3.And the PS3 slim doesn't play PS1 games natively. And the RROD was not an issue once Microsoft fixed it. Stop showing how much of a pony you are.

Maybe it has to do with space. I 1000% tell people to buy a PS2. I’ve got a PS2, PS3, and PS4 pro all next to each other in the mancave. Each to their own I guess hey 👍

Yay. I love retro game hardware. Old games need more attention because unlike other forms of mass media video games are rarely available for a long time and aren't re-released unless publishers smell easy money.
Must be something in the water, I've gone down the route of PCSX2, RetroArche and RetroAcheivements and having more fun now than I am on any 70$ modern game. Love the content man, have a good end to your week.

OF F'N COURSE! I stuck with Xbox for many years now, but I still have a collosal soft spot for PSX, PS2 and PSP. That's just my childhood in a nutshell and I crave for nostalgia. I still want to buy them and I will someday. Well, besides PSP, because I have it somewhere alive and working, but the condition of it is not the best. So yeah, they're still worth every damn penny.

I already got mine last week. I got it from EBay for $100 with 2 controllers and 2 games. It’s a totally different atmosphere when you power up this console. Brought me so many old memories it’s a totally different feeling to play games straight up your PS2 console. I have a PS5, PS4, XBOX One X and a Series S. I’ll probably get a PS3 sometime this year.
PS2 was and will always be my favorite console. I got it for my 12th birthday and had it ever since. I still have games that I owned back in 2001 and after. Final fantasy X and kingdom hearts 1 and 2 are my favorite games I still like to play on my PS2.
Hell yeah man! Did this last year and had to get the Def Jam series. Both discs were more than $60, but it was well worth the coin! Happy nostalgia
My very first PS2 only played ps1 games and audio CDs for some reason. Never did understand why. Every PS2 game we put in always got an error saying unsupported format.
I got a PS1 and playing that on my 4K tv looks so blurry man i may need to grab me a Retrotink or something. I bought my PS1 for the same reason you picked up your PS2 and i shop at a local mom & pop for the games. I totally feel you it was a better time back then.

It deinterlaces 480i to 480p.
Combined with the mcable, it upscales 480p to 1080p as well as provides color enhancements.
Its best these games are gonna look on a 4k TV.

I got a original PS2 off a work colleague for £10 its in great condition, just got Gran Turismo 3 and SSX 3 for it. I have to use a componant cable to hdmi converter but it works. PS2 was Sony best ever era in gaming

Been working on my ps2 collection for a while, i have over 100 games and have completed maybe 20 of them lol, mainly play alot of the old nba and nfl street games as well as replaying kh 1,2 and bbs(psp version). Ssx tricky and the tony hawk games also took up alot of my time and i loved it

Nobody has disk drives anymore but playing game straight from disk or making your own backups and using pcsx2 is by far the best way to play these games. Im playing for ps2 games on my series s ps2 emulator than anything else

I started collecting PS2 games last year after falling out of the modern gaming space.
The greatest time I had was when my father got my sister and I a ps2, and we would play flatout and sim2 all day. Makes me shead a tear.

Bought ps2 for my son. He's grown now 34 years old, in his own home. I still have the ps2, my cousin Dave and I (63&64 years old) still play every Sunday night ,baldurs gate 1 & 2. Looking for a new (refurbished) ps2. Any recommendations? Where to buy, which model, controllers?
PS2 was the 1st ever console I got at an age of 8 in 2010. Still the goat that carried my childhood before I properly got into PC gaming a couple years later. Still have it fully working in one of the drawers, and then my old CRT at my grandma's place somewhere. Nowadays I emulate it usually with a CRT filter but the memories playing countless hours of GTA San Andreas, Spyro or old Scooby-Doo games on that thing are priceless. In other words, nostalgia is a powerful thing, and PS2 is still the best console ever created to me. Very good video, keep it up :p
I love my PS2 so much that i had to repair it, three time in its life time. I had to change the DVD Lazer and its working still. I definitely want to soft mod it my PS2.

I still have my PS2 but the only time I touched it in years was to get my save files to my PC. When I tried it for a bit at that time it didn't make me feel better, it was just annoying having to switch disks and memory cards. Nostalgia weirdly just doesn't seem to work on me. Although it wasn't my only system and I was more fond of my PC and my actual video games and I never stopped playing my old favorites. I don't know if that affects it at all but I guess so. EyeToy is really fun though
PS2 was the peak console of all time for me, I had some of the best memories of gaming in my life, games from Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry 3, All of the Onimusha games wow, God Hand just banger after banger of games, nothing beat just pure fun gameplay, most games had a soul and identity, just from both the art style to the gameplay, I am miss cheat codes back in the day, you get to custom your own gaming experience

@@HollowRick that beautiful, I remember when I got Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater when it first came out, I bought it, on that same day, I played that game from beginning to end in one day, that was an experience in it life time, the gameplay, to the boss fights, the gripping story and story moments, my favourite boss has to be the sorrow, that you can't get from many modern games,
I sold mostly of my consoles. I had the disc read error with my original ps2, and I never had that problem with the slim model.

I started with the NES when I was about 5, the 16-BIT era hit when I was about 9 years old, N64 when I was in middle school, Dreamcast when I was in high school, then Xbox PS2, and GCN just as I was graduating. I've felt that AAA has single handedly killed the industry and it really started about halfway thru the 360/PS3 era.

@RadecStahl you are a broken record. 90% of PS2 games were remastered is an absolute LIE. Maybe less than 1% of PS2 games were remastered for the PS3. Over 4000 games were released for the PS2 you dummy. No way we saw thousands of PS2 games got ported to the PS3.
My issue with this, is that I have discs from this era that have already stopped working since media lifespan is getting to the point where its starting to degrade, so buyer beware.
Well. I have a ps4 and ps5 disks that literally rotten. Black spots. Its not question of age at this point its question of condition and owner responsibility.
@@bubsy3861 My Dreamcast games were kept in their case for nearly 2 decades never being removed until I went back to replay some of them over vacation and a number of them didn't work or would freeze during loading screen transitions. CDs degrade over time and it sucks to see it happen. Couple of my PS2 games had this happen as well.
@@jubei20111 Dreamcast have problems with laser that just dies over time. Bed reading its common problem. Its not usually a disc problem if its dont have visual damage.
@@bubsy3861 My laser does not seem to be the issue,. I bought another copy of one of the games and it works fine. I'm sure if I burned the others to CD-R then those would work fine as well but I've not tested it to be certain.

I missed out on the chance to purchase a PS2 since my uncle generously gave me his. I vividly recall the rainy day when my brother and I hooked it up. We played Vice City for a bit and then we quickly went to Blockbuster to rent MGS2. Simpler days for sure.

I have a 32 inch CRT with a amazing picture (with S Video near HD quality) that I use for my retro consoles. PS2\GC\Xbox\DC was such a great generation.
i still have my ps2 slim...it works fine...chrono trigger is in the disc tray right now...my old discs don't work in an emulator and i have some cool ones like parasite eve 1and 2, nightmare creatures 1 and 2, rise of kasai, colony wars, etc...i would also suggest finding the logitech wireless controllers for it as well, they're excellent
Love the PS2. Had some of the best sports games before they shoved in micro transactions like ESPN NFL 2K, NBA Street Vol 2, the Burnout series and Hot Shots Golf.

Man, i miss the PS2. My old ps2 slim i believe doesnt work anymore, so i'm using emulators of which i'm going to add more ram since the emulators sometimes froze for some reason.
I have my original PS2 and it still works though the dvd player will work but the picture is green
Back in 2001 I was at my sister’s place for the summer and I was playing fight night round 2 and I went to the kitchen for a drink and came back and her dog chewed my player 1 controller wire and ended up shorting out the player 1 port on my PS2. Luckily that fall my classmate was coming back for year 2 of college and he let me borrow his ps2 box and I returned it to Wal Mart without a receipt and they gave me a brand new ps2 and I gave my buddy his ps2 box back lol good times
Yes definitely get one in 2023! I still have my original PS2 which I refurbished just recently and a great catalog of games for it, definitely my favorite console of all time

Well. PS2 its only one of many. I actually play Sega genesis from time to time and even gave a "tower of power" setup. I also like N64, SNES and even f_ing Jaguar. Good stuff.
Btw, cartridges its just on different level of pleasure to have it on hand.
This video definitely brought a lot of the nostalgia I had with the PS2 back in the mid-2000's. I got to play gems such as Gran Turismo 3, the Jak and Daxter series (now I own the PS4 ports on PS5 for nostalgia reasons :'D), Sonic Heroes (it was the worst version at the time, but I still had fun with it 😂😂; I currently own that game on PC), Dragon Ball Z: Sagas (I know that game is pretty trash, but the recordings of the anime scenes were pretty cool to look though 😀😀😂😂), Lego Star Wars: the Videogame, and a whole bunch of low budget licensed games that me and my older brother thought were fun at the time 😂😂😂. That console definitely made me and my older brother the gamers we are today 👌👌👌👌.
WOW! The year 2000 shit I was 5yrs old, time really does fly by. I was playing the PS1, N64, SNES, SEGA: Mega Drive/Genesis, NES and even the SEGA: Saturn in that year lol. 2002 I had an OG Xbox that came with Halo: Combat Evolved, Jet Set Radio and Medal of Honor: Frontline. I miss the late 90's and the early 2000's, we actually had good shit back then. But right now I'll just emulate them.

goddamn when you said 200 for Xenosaga 3 I almost fell out of my chair. I don't collect anymore but I remember thhinking the prices for it were crazy back in 2018/2019 at $80.I didn't know just how bad it's gotten since then.
I do a mix of all 3 (emulating, modded with hdd, and physical) but I definitely second modding a phat one if you still want the real thing without draining your wallet. I got one with a broken disc drive for $13 and modded it, works great.
Great video. The PS2 is the greatest console of all time. I gave up on modern gaming during the PS3 era when all the nonsense started to happen. There are more then enough PS1 and PS2 games to last my lifetime and they will always be playable in the future.

I got a PS3 and a Sanyo HT30746 HD CRT and have been playing Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots. I also have a PS1 and going to be grabbing an S-Video A/V cable and FFVIII, and even considering finding a 13”-20” Sony Trinitron CRT to play the PS1, and even find a NES and SNES and grab Super Mario Bros 3, and the Donkey Kong Country trilogy.
Honestly I just use a decent component cable on my LG4k and the picture quality is really not bad at all!
If you're planning to use emulator, i prefer to use pcsx2 nightly instead of the official because the nightly is continuously updated even until now. There are a lot of fix, bug, and performance improvements by using this version.
I just bought me a ps2 as well and the games I really want. It's just feels so nostalgic playing on ps2.
I do have a PS2 but it's very picky with its discs so I'm thinking something wrong with the reader. I want to try to get that fixed before I have to buy a whole new system because this is one from my childhood
I haven't sold anything I've bought since 2012, when I started getting back into gaming. The whole Xeno series, Ar Tonelico, Valkyrie Profile 2, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, some of my favorite games of all time. I have no reason to get rid of them, but I am not gonna complain about how much they've gone up in value since then. 😉
