Ottimo in questo balletto quello che con un mio neologismo mi piace chiamare con volo aereo ed elanista della ballerina ottimamente indotto e tenuto dal partner con bilico di difficoltà massima ed eseguito con una non chalance esecutiva d'acchito sorprendente.Ottime ed inedite le posture figurali.Eccellente il tourbillon vorticoso di giravolte su di un solo appoggio di punta da parte della ballerina come se avesse immiato. Ottimo impadronimento del proscenio direi imperativo a balzi falcati amplissimi ed a rotazioni aeree raccolte da parte del ballerino. Omg Dupond was inches away from tripping her before the final pose... Can you imagine lol. But all that aside, Sylvie is my favorite dancer from her generation.
This is so great. Thanks for uploading. It's amazing they could dance so well on that improvised dance matting they put down. A few times, they appear to lose their footing. Great artists such as these should have been treated better. Still, it's so wonderful to see the control they exhibited in this video.

For Daniel Cho, the dryad variation is one of a bunch of maybe "modular" variations (think Drigo and Minkus) that got interchanged as ballet scores evolved, although this is the one I've heard most often with Corsaire. I think the way Dupond pulls back a little was just their reblocking of the Sorbonne's very odd dance space. I mean, look at that initial arabesque! And Sylvie's 19??? I've never understood how you could have that much flexibility and such gorgeous feet and still be able to hold your center so strongly! And she only got better!
in his prime ( and my too) l saw many times live dupond ,and still now l consider him one of the most stunning virtuosos l saw ever ,to not speack about the great relationship he had with audience from stage ,he was absolutely a born superstar
***** personally saw live him at his top many many times and he was one of the best dancer of his time have a look ot his LE PETIT PAN is on you tube and read my comments about his 1979 london debut ,l was there .
***** among the other things l am usually a fan of 70's RUSSIANS dancers as vladimir vasiliev lavrovsky soloviev etc etc ,but dupond was an exception from my usual taste ,him ,peter schaufuss ,and fernando bujones were my westerner idols .anyway l find dupond's technique stunning ,also if l admit that corsaire is too far from his culture ,but have a look at his franz in petit's coppelia ,after all these years he still owns the role.
I compare this to my idea of the gold standard: the 1963 version with Fonteyn and Nureyev where she is so classical and so ladylike and lovely, with her perfect lines and rounded port des bras. Also, a sweetness that compares with the animal magnetism of DuPont is just missing: it’s exceptional in technical excellence of course. Her technique and ability far outstrips Fonteyn. But the chemistry between Fonteyn and Nureyev brought out a depth and loving quality in Fonteyn’s somewhat prim (almost) elegance. Guillem is dancing exquisitely but not much rapport. Her solo (which is really Queen of the Dryads ) is more humane; more upper body introduced into her dancing and more emotion. An absolutely exquisite dancer but just too icy for me.
Fonteyn and Nureyev were adorably sexy in Le Corsaire. Not much chemistry although beautiful dancers, and I adore Guillem. However, I still say her near 180° developpes a la seconde create an ugly line.
Sylvie sets the barr vey high in this "classical pas de duex "and is yet to be surpassed by any other ballerina in my opinion . The only other ballerina I have ever seen come close to such pure classicalism is Martine Van Hamel .
Was curious to see her dance as she has such respect to her name and what struck me was her legs :) I mean, I know dancers generally have long legs but damn! :) She really has lovely extension and she's very pretty too. Everything also looks very well controlled :)
as you know POB has not full lenght corsaire in his repertoire ,and yes l agree ,he is not portraing ali' just dancing a showpiece ,but with great tecnique and funny bravado .
