I deleted the app that I had previously downloaded from the Play Store & downloaded it afresh using the QR code that the radio displays. I also debugged 2 features on the phone. It connected within seconds. My wi-fi router battery was low so it quickly disconnected so I'll check again today if the connection was just a "fluke" or if it works properly.
