How to fix the Thermowax cold start problem on an FZ1 (fz8 should be the same). Sorry the video clip is on its side. hope this helps someone. It really is an easy fix.
Glad I found your video, I might make one showing me doing it as I have the same problem, i had been jamming a bit of plastic in the end of the throttle grip to hold it slightly open for a minute or so after cold starts since I got the bike so hopefully doing what you said will cure it, cheers sir
Thank you!! I thought i was going to need to send mine for a repair but i saw your video and i had this exakt problem, and i could fix it no problem! Saved me a lot of money! So again, Thank you!

Thanks for the message mate. I might think about it as I do 99% of my own work on my bikes. I just thought as there was nothing on this fault I had better put something up as it was an easy fix and may help people save some money. 👍
I have a 2004 r1 and it hold rpms for a couple of second even though the throttle is closed, brand new cables could the thermo wax assembly be causing this? It doesn't really have a problem starting or idling
Hello. Do you think this gonna be my fix for this situation: bike won t cold start idle at higher rev, and when hot it s gonna increse the idle with 200 rpms...?
Hi if you have this problem, this is what happens. When you first start the bike from cold it will tick over very very low (no fast idle) and some times just keep cutting out. this is because the thermowax is stuck. once bike is worm it will then run normal or just a bit fast. I had this problem for a few weeks till I fixed mine. Once i fixed mine it never happened again. Hope this helps a bit. From what I found out at the time it is a common problem on the FZ1.
I really do not know to be honest. I would not think so. when the cold start normally stops working, all that happens is it does not fast idle on start up. So can struggle to start then run really low till it worms up, then once wormed up everything is normal and bike should run as it should. All the cold start is really is a choke. Hope this helps a bit.
Fixed mine thanks to your video mate. Nice one…
No problem at all mate. Save a lot of money 😁
Thankyou for these lovely instructions. I've just done my FZ1SA this evening and she now purrs up a storm from cold.
That’s great news mate.

It fixed mine straight away and was not a hard job to do. Just took my time with a cuppa. It’s a common fault with the fz1
@@MrEnglishman6969 cheers for the reply, it's now on my long list of things to do this winter
I have the same proplem with my bike will try this at a later stage thanks Ian
It really is easy to do, just take your time and let the wd40 do it’s job. My bike has not skipped a beat since I fixed it
I ve just looked at it again yes you removed the tank thanks

Glad I could help someone out mate

It doesn't really have a problem starting or idling
Did you remove the petrol tank
does gen 1 have the thermowax??
Hi I don’t think so . All fz1 from 2006 to 2015 have them as they are fuel injected. The gen 1 has carbs off top of my head and that would be a no.
@@MrEnglishman6969 very new to my first gen so wasn’t sure… thanks for the quick reply. I’ve already figured it out.

and FZ8 , R1 as they are almost the same engines
Yes sorry for late reply
Do you think this could make my bike have a bouncy idle on warm starts?

What year is your bike.
2015 but all the years are the same on the fz1. so 2006 to 2015.
the fault can also make the bike tick over on idle a bit fast
