  • Five bucks for this out at the Coramba Trading Post shed.
I couldn't read the measurement numbers on the outside so decided to re-write them so I could use this again.
I cleaned the brass up with some Autosol and gave the wood a coat of raw Linseed Oil which it soaked up.
There was some very faint serial numbers 03-54 I could read.
I did a google search and this came up as a match......
Sybren 36" Boxwood 4 Fold Rule No 80-03-54 Made in Holland.
The ruler also has 3FT etched into one end.
    Hope you enjoyed the video!!

Really impressive. Always worried cleaning would destroy the lettering and simply never considered your approach. Might try again. Oh and straightening them.....?

Thanks Baz!!, it did take me a while to do all the numbers, needed my glasses. No mate i'd need to jump on a plane for 15 hours to get to your place, one day maybe!!

The label on the Autosol tube indicated it was an aluminum, but the hinges looked like they might be made of brass. Is Autosol a multipurpose polish, or was there a specific reason for using it on this project? Great job, particularly in renewing the faded letters. You have a steadier hand than many of us.

Nice one mate ...Is that a Rabone ? . I got a brass one I might do up one day but not sure what to use for the lettering on metal. Not sure if permanent marker pen will work... will have to try few options.

I think it's a Sybren, made in Holland, there was some extremely faint numbers on it. Worth a clean up. I love the brass on these old tools, shines up beautifully. Good luck with yours LR!

Just subscribed to your TH-cam channel after watching your boxwood rule restoration. I have just picked up a Stanley No. 136 boxwood caliper and was looking at cleaning techniques. Hope to see you post some on Instagram. I am sending a picture of the No. 136 to you on Instagram. Thanks for the video.
