This video is a weird one? I don't know where to start?
So, I really don't know if I love or hate this ship. Like, obviously, he's terrible, but something about the idea of them is extremely interesting to me. He loved her, but he loved himself more. And Lucy Gray figured it out. And it all went to hell.
This video is essentially from Snow's perspective, but as if Lucy Gray is haunting him with the song. Not sure if that makes any sense? But that's what I ended up going for.

I'll probably remake this once the movie comes out, but I wanted to get my feelings out now while I had inspiration!

I got chills when I saw the last scene between Tigris and Snow, the shift of her attitude towards him and how she called him by his full name and not Coryo.
I know, I loved it from the way he was looking at her, searching for a compliment. The anger in his face when he got a backhanded insult was great. I want a sequel just to see what happens between them.

He betrays her, she becomes a designer, she becomes a tigress with the technology of the Capitol and he exiles her saying that she is too extravagant to continue being a designer of the Capitol.

I know it was so sad seeing Snow walk on that line between the person we see him in the modern hunger games and the lover boy who was growing a heart. The start of the book we saw him as similar to the current Snow, and as we go through the book he seems to be getting better until the end 😭
The words "Even if they were separated by space, they were together in time" read like ticks of the clock.

Oh my gosh, "you're the hero flying around saving face" is a PERFECT line for Snow in this book!!

Their story is so tragic and frustrating but if you really read between the lines of the book it’s clear that snow is a narcissistic psychopath. The way he betrayed sejanus and still expects to get cookies from ma and expects tobe the hero, the way she looks at Lucy Gray like his property that he prefers to be locked up at capitol. He prefers to be evil than to be inconvenient. It’s always about him, Snow lands on top. Poor Lucy Gray I believed she really loved him. She could have been his moral compass but something so deeply evil was ingrate in him and once he realised that Lucy Gray find out about him that changes everything because he only likes how Lucy Gray sees him, ‘pure as a driven snow’ because he always thinks he’s good and exceptional i dont think he realised his bad he always have this way of justifying himself. His inner dialogue in the book revealed who he truly was but you can’t see it in the movies. In the movies he’s like a hopeless romantic.
Except that’s not true at all. Yes, he is egotistical, selfish, elitist, jealous, and possessive, but that doesn’t negate that he truly did love her; it just wasn’t in the Disney way that some people think love can only be. What you’re talking about is just the plain text, when you actually read between the lines, that’s where you see him starting to change, even only slightly, and only when he “has her in his arms”, until selfishness and paranoia, and most likely imagined betrayal eventually lead the events at the end. They play his emotions pretty accurately in this movie to what his inner monologue. There’s some parts where he is thinking more selfish thoughts (mostly with Sejanus) than what is portrayed on screen and there’s parts on screen where he seems more callous, where his inner monologue is much more “romantic”. It’s an even balance and portrayed very well. If you really read the books and actually read between the lines, he is infatuated and then very much in love, even into the epilogue. It’s a selfish love, but it’s still love (not always selfish either. When he thinks he’s going to hang, he’s just grateful that Lucy is safe and will live on for both of them)

maybe in books he was like that, but in film he has some strong human traits , also lucy and sejanus are not saint people as well
@bookwhorem I agree with you, except I think Lucy Gray was just like him. I felt like she was calculated and manipulative too, and that is why he fell for her. Perhaps, they were both just victims of their upbringing, harsh conditions they had to survive so they became inherently evil. But I think it is much more interesting to look at Lucy Gray from this perspective. She was not a victim of his choices, and this is proven time and again during her whole story. The second she sensed something was wrong with Snow, she ran off and planted that snake. It was a conscious choice, a survivor’s choice. She is not a victim. That’s why book + movie combo is the best. We can read how much Snow is actually inhumane and evil to begin with, how he doesn’t see tributes as humans, but at the same time, senses Lucy Gray as a kindred spirit. But still not human. And she thinks he is. And then she realizes, and we see that in the movie and in her expressions. Perfect combo for such a complicated couple of layered characters.

Just saw the movie. No wonder Snow is so invested with Katniss and Peeta, at first, he is so obsessed with Katniss, so it is because it reminded him of Lucy Gray, he must have been so surprised in Catching Fire seeing how Katniss truly loved Peeta. Reminding him of his “what might have been” with Lucy. That scene made a new different impact to me now, the scene with his granddaughter. Also, the song “The Hanging Tree” also must have pissed him off big time, cause Katniss sang it while longing to see Peeta. The lyrics are all about him. Snow’s character reminds me of a drama I’ve watched before. The male lead is so obsessed with power cause of the death of his father that he even killed the family of his beloved, he also truly loves the female lead but she likes someone before too but they got separated and then she falls in love with the male lead. But then, he wants to restore their name. He got so evil and jealous that he didn’t realized he had it all. He thought she still loves her past lover. Not knowing he is the one who she truly loves. In the end, the female lead punished him by killing herself in front him to stop the war. That scene reminded me of why Lucy let him be bitten by a snake. She wants to punish him for what he did. For killing someone innocent. To wake him up, that she even had to sacrifice betraying him. To just stop. I think she recognizes Snow is becoming a person who had evil ambitions. Who is becoming evil himself. I also think he might have shot her himself but fled away. It will be very interesting if she lived, but I think she died in that forest, while singing her song “the hanging tree” which is calling out to her beloved, Snow. The Pure One that she knows.
Let me guess, the drama you mentioned is Cdrama, right?
Omg the part where Snow tells his granddaughter she will find love suddenly has a completely different meaning and I love it

The last scene with Peeta, Katniss and the children is the life what could have, what should have to be Coriolanus's and Lucy Gray's life together. Sad ending, but least Snow helped Katniss to see clear who is Coin. Least, at last he helped to prevent repeating the same mistakes of Panem.
Snow always knew he was wrong but was too proud and narcissistic to admit it and it was his continued denial of the evidence that drove him crazy.
Only after his defeat at the hands of Coin Snow did he finally realize how idiotic he was and when he told Katniss who Coin really was I think it was the first moment of mental clarity he had after years.
That is an interesting take that I haven’t thought of and I think you’re right. Especially after reading his inner monologues. They usually start with being caring or questioning his beliefs, but then it turns towards himself that he deserves to get something or it had to happen. There were only a few instances where that didn’t happen and they were only with Lucy gray.
I agree. I also think that, if only Casca Highbottom hadn't been so against him when he was just a young teenager, then maybe, just maybe he wouldn't have fallen so easily at the hands of Gaul. Casca's only mistake was projecting his father's sins onto the son, and while Coriolanus was no perfect guy (as we know from his inner monologues), I saw that there were times when he actually questioned what he was taught about the capitol (once or twice though). He had to bear the pressures of living upto his family name, and he had no adult who actually cared enough about him to help him out. I also think that, while his inner monologues weren't always nice, it reminded me of when I was 17 too. I used to have the most unhinged, messed up, kind of thoughts, but I had people who cared enough to see when I was sort of unravelling. He didn't. Except for Tigris, but she was just a teenager too. Plus Dr. Gaul took full advantage of his ambitious nature. To me, this showed me how the most ambitious and hard-working people can actually be easily manipulated as they tend to work with the system blindly, and without question to its status quo. Unlike Sejanus, he was too scared to look at the truth.
@@nihonrahman6712 Before reading the ballad I thought Snow was a Palpatine-style villain from birth, but after reading the last book I see him as a villain who became evil due to circumstances like Vader. For me, the great villain of the Hunger Games is Dr. Gaul.
It’s insane to me that this song, which was absolutely not written about TBOSAS, lyrically fits the story better than some of the songs on the actual soundtrack
A lot of Taylor swifts sings do fit the hunger games story perfectly. She has said she writes some songs with inspiration from THG

I have a theory. Casca Highbottom told Lucy Gray that he was glad that she survived him. I can't help but think that maybe he also helped her run away from Coriolanus at the end.
I really hope one day we learn the real fate of Lucy Gray............I like to imagine she survived in the woods and managed to live her life somewhat peacefully in the wilds or something.

If I watched this film at my teenager years, I'd probably feel devastated for Snow. Like what he said, "after everything he had done for her" and I'd associate Lucy for the evil he had become. But right now, I see a young woman who knew when to run and she bravely did on time! Their chemistry is great and she probably brought out the best of him. But Snow will revert to what he truly is. And I doubt they will last long if they really did runaway. Snow belongs to the capitol and Lucy Gray isn't for that cold, cruel place.
I know Taylor didn’t write this song for this movie but she might as well have it’s so perfect

so i’ve never read the books or seen the movies this was the first one in the series i saw. i think that lucy rly love him but at the end she found out she can’t trust him bc of the killed 3 ppl comment he made. my theory is that lucy ran away instead of getting the flowers and she set the trap of the scarf with the snake underneath. he got bitten and he hallucinated lucy running past and she was already long gone. either that or he did end up hallucinating but she was hiding somewhere seeing how he’s react tot the snake kinda like a loyalty test. i believe she lived and went back to 12 or went to 13 and that she lived till her dying days.
