Making n64 "covers" of music has became a trend in the past months, but you're the only one who really put time and effort to really translate the songs so they sound better with n64 soundfount.
@@delasse3178??? I'm curious as to what made you feel that. I assume you mean the early era of CC1, but I aside from superifical aspects of CC's usage of rough, analog and MIDI soundfonts--everything else is restrained and lacks that punk edge of CC1.
@@audiosurfarchive i dont know if you misunderstood me or not but i meant this n64 version reminds me of crystal castles, as opposed to the original, but yes, earlier crystal castles for sure; i really only like their first 2 albums. i can't say what specifically reminds me of CC, but i can probably attest to CC not existing in it's entirety without some degree of influence from Aphex Twin.

It's literally all my favorite Aphex Twin tracks all in one place. Great job man! Would be cool to hear something like Boards of Canada's Geogaddi next.
god what I wouldn’t give for the entirety of SAW Vol II in the SM64 soundfont you don’t have to (that would be an arduous process) but something about such an already uneasy album with such a strangely comforting soundfont feels like it would work
God, I genuinely don't know how you've done it, but for Lichen/Rhubarb/Stone In Focus you've just completely knocked the ball out of the park! Like genuinely, listening to these ambient tracks felt like listening to the original ones for the first time. That calming but also somewhat eerie ambience you've managed to replicate perfectly with just N64 sounds. It's actually brilliant. Thank you.
At first i thought it was just gonna be another "haha funny n64 version of one of my favorite musicians" so I put it on and before I knew it I was totally hooked listening to the whole album. This is awesome dude, keep it up.
Words cannot describe how good this is along with everything else on your channel. The N64 sound font matches the same uncanny yet comforting feeling of richard’s works so well, and it just makes me happy seeing that Aphex Twin has a thriving creative community after all these years.
the ONLY problem with this playlist is that Windowlicker is so close to the end!!! :D other than that, absolutely amazing work, these are also my favourite Aphex Twin tracks (there's no such thing as coincidence...) absolutely love it! thank you for this!
Omg. I clicked on the thumbnail thinking that I was only getting Ageispolis, and was confused when it was Xtal… and then delighted when I actually read the video title 🤩
Probably not much at all. Usually someone just finds all the songs ready-made as MIDI files, then they play it through a software where you can select the soundfont, and record. Definitely they are not transcribing all the songs into notes first, then sound-designing, then playing it live and recording in a studio.
@@juhokettunen8245 Outside the last two, I'm pretty sure they do that and there's nothing wrong or lesser about the work put into this. Knowing what soundfount fit best, what instrument to put at what note (which you often don't have if you remix a new track) and how, it's still respectable work. Like thinking about using the Chain Chomp sound effect was really clever. You make it sound so easy, but we all try our hardest.
@@Game_Hero Fair, I can't know what really goes behind the scenes of each song. Any artistic effort gets respect from me, even if sometimes I'm sceptical.

i was excited to check out rhubarb and was glad you didn't disappoint with the soundfont choice. it HAS to be that "inside the deku tree" flute for the low pads, nothin else. so good. ty!
Heliosphan was always my favorite song off the first album, and hearing it with the Banjo Kazooie soundfont is a real treat. I love the xylophone type timbre there it sounds great

Windowlicker is absolutely insane. The hardest one to recreate IMO and you absolutely smashed it.
yeah that one is super clever with the sample/sound replacements. Marios and peach for the ughhhs and ahhhs is hilarious.

vordhosbn was so hard to recreate they didn't even try to include any of the drum track
Now just a quick & dirty mod to put this music into Mario64.
With RDJ as Mario, and RDJ as Peach.
losing my goddamn mind over how perfect literally every track sounds. the chain chomp bark as the piano drag in alberto balsam is divinely inspired.
