Some of these pieces bring me back 12 years, when I was listening to them while riding the bus on the way to medschool, when I was healthy, could move freely and wasn't confined to a bed for the majority of my time. It's so nostalgic.
Interestingly it's an example of some of his work where he programmed a midi device to play the notes on a piano via a mechanical device, which is why it sounds both simple and robotic at the same time. Quite innocent in a way. And a lot more complex to produce than otherwise initially thought.
@@purgruv I always thought Avril 14th was played by hand. But I just realized that if you listen closely (in a quiet environment) you can faintly hear the clicking sound of the device that's triggering the keys.
Back in the day I bought this album (druqs) on release day. One of the first things that stood out to me was the mechanical noises Avril 14th. I loved that he put those sounds in there because it makes it more intimate and pure like you are there sitting next to the piano. I didn't realise at the time it was played by a midi controlled machine. Nevertheless, genius piece.

I've wanted this exact Playlist ever since I heard Avril 14th and nanou 2 almost 15 years ago. But I've never been able to go through all of his music to find all of these gems. Thanks a ton!
Sending big hugs and thanks from Dublin 🇮🇪 for this brilliant upload 😉👌 ... Richard really is a genius, mellow tracks, melodic bouncy tunes, chaotic ear bleeding belters, and everything in between, he is a master of the lot... From the days of me discovering his music, I think it was while watching MTV Chill Out Zone during my earliest clubbing years (I'll be 49 this year), the years when I happily spent close to all of my wages getting a decent (physical) music collection together, to today, where we can all mostly find whatever music we are searching for in an instant, I still listen to his music more than any other artists I like. Also, what fan can't like an artist who dumps some absolute amazing gems onto Soundcloud for all to enjoy... ❤ 🔊
This music is extraordinary. Minimalist, soundscape gemstones. Each and every one of them. Echo's of Erik Satie and Brian Eno. As a sidenote, Aisatsana (Anastasia?) reminded me of Viola Martinsson's Made Of- used for a Volvo commercial. My favorite track is Petiatil cx htdui. Thanks for this. ❤
These little comments about Aisatsana being Anastasia in reverse, is actually true, he wrote this track for her, she was his partner at the time, maybe even wife? I couldn't tell for sure if they stayed together or not, as I wasn't there at the time. I know he had a kid, I didn't know if it was with her. These are stories about him my dad tells me, when Aphex went to France, that's where he met her cuz she was French. My dad is a DJ so he got to hang to that sort of places where Aphex Twin would mix and they would even take turns. He knows a lot about him, when he talks about him it almost sounds like he's a genuine fan of him. My dad says his work really inspired him, that he's a real genius. He played a specific track of windowlicker to me when I was born. And I have personally now really fallen in love with these piano tracks, they bring me a lot of sensations. Aisatsana has been the first I felt a strong attachment to, especially after hearing it's story, I can just feel the emotions put in it and it sounds so nostalgic to me, even if I wasn't there at the time.
Aisatsana is honestly my favourite Aphex Twin piano song. When I first time listened Syro (full album at once) it feels like the end of the great travel
The live performance of this song is on a automatically playing piano that swings from ropes on the ceiling. You can find the video on TH-cam. Must be an impressive sight/sound. Wish I could have been there.
it sounds like anime style japanese contemporary piano, and early minecraft soundtrack. Perhaps because Richard was heavily into anime, and C418 was heavily into Richard's music. It's nice to hear the missing links, it makes you visualise the history of music better, adding one element at a time
