Almost the same thing. Defense curl also doubles the power of roll out or ice ball after use. Otherwise it's the same thing.
Have you ever considered getting poisoned ahead of Watson in order to avoid getting paralyzed?

Also yes if you find a way to get poisoned or burned (for non attack stat mons) would work wonders. Of course it wouldn't have helped with Slaking as the poison damage would probably stack too quickly. Case in point your victory over Watson wouldn't have happened of you'd started poisoned. Even without paralysis you'd have to balance the poison ticks and the regular damage.

@@PogChimpYou should look up the Pokémon Teraleak. Slaking story aside, there are a lot of cool interesting stuff inside.
As for the Slaking story, it's a graphic folklore-inspired story that with some other stories, seemed to have something to do with the Sinnoh Lore library stories. It got infamous really quickly after getting discovered for having material that was..unexpected for Pokémon lol. Though granted, some of it was made worse by machine translating. I'd suggest checking The Cutting Room Floor. They have translated the Slakoth story along with many more uncovered ones

Ah, Slaking. The Pokémon that's overpowered all the time, 50% of the times.
I am once again asking you to take the fossil opposite the one you say you took. Just to see who notices. I know you said you want to try to include it in this video to see who asks anyway, but I think my idea also works really well.
And yes, I know he took the Dome fossil on a fossils only run when he started with Omanyte. But that is not what I mean. I mean I want to hear "I took the Root fossil" while seeing the Claw fossil being taken. Or hearing "I took the Helix fossil" while seeing the Dome fossil being taken.
And to those who say that this has happened before - when? Show me! I've looked and looked and have not seen it!

The craziest part of this run for me was when the Oddish survived despite being about half Slaking's level. I know it was a Faint Attack which uses the worse attacking stat, but still... one tough weed right there.
Here’s a really goofy story about wrestling finishing moves. It turns out that John Cena really likes making up moves for actual people IRL with dumb puns because that’s the kind of dude he is. Back when I worked for Mike Bell’s brother Mark, Cena would come hang out when the wrestling tour came through town because the Bell’s are the ones who got him into wrestling in the first place when they were furniture movers together. Anyway, he became a big fan of this power lifter called Hoss (it’s a Bonanza joke), and decided that his finishing move should be called The Bigginswalt Hoss-tage Crisis.

Slaking is pretty fun on a team, you have Vigoroth who's great for mid-game and later on Slaking can just come in, take a hit and one shot stuff

He didn't really "come up with it", per se. It was just a normal bit of info he did in the first challenge, and when he didn't mention it in the next challenge or two, people started asking which fossil he took. He realized people WANT to hear that every time and it became a running gag because of that. The gag just kinda came into being on its own. If anything, the commenters are the ones who thought of and pushed for it lol

When I was a kid, my Dad bought me a WCW wrestling game for my N64. I didn't know anything about the WCW (I was more of a WWF kid at the time), but I do remember liking Rick Steiner and his signature move, the "Steiner Recliner".

Really enjoyed this run, it's always about the interest of how to me so even if the Pokemon isn't the weakest thing in the world the strategy and the set backs still make them enjoyable to see how it's done.
Fun fact, you can actually bypass Slakings loafing turns by simply using an item like an x attack! Now obviously this wouldn’t help considering this is a challenge, but I randomly discovered this from Whattageeks Pokémon Colosseum play through and it blew my mind! 😮
That Ludicolo in the champion fight seemed really annoying. If only there were a flying type move (an AERIAL type even) that never misses to make the double teams useless. That would have been ACE 🤪🤔😂
Yeah, he REALLY shouldve gotten rid of shadow ball after Phoebe :') Ice Beam Mightve helped with Stevens cradily as well.
As someone who has started to do a looooot of solo runs partly in thanks to your videos I gotta say 2 things
1 thank you for making these videos that have helped me have a lot more fun in pokemon than id otherwise have ever had and helped me learn way more than i would have thought possible
and 2 for a pokemon X run a challenging one id want to see if you would be able to do is Noibat only, its difficult but possible

I remember a shiny wurmple before you got Poké Balls in a run that required struggle. Don't remember the Pokémon though, possibly Ralts 😅
I know you probably would have done this challenge anyway but I want still want to believe me asking for slakoth/slaking challange for a few time was part of the reason for this run!

The Gen 3 elite 4 is the one that convinced child me that of I wanted to make it in competitive Pokemon, I would need to be prepared for any and all strategies, including evasion.

You could have started with a Slakoth, stopping the evolution into Vigoroth until it is 1 level away from becoming a Slaking. Then you let it evolve, use one rare candy, and basically skip the Vigoroth stage. Still, not much would have changed, you would have ended up having to grind like crazy in the beginning for that first gym, and then as soon as you got Slaking you would have swept even harder till the Elite 4.
Slaking is one of my fav. pokemon. Hyperbeam with him is one hell of combination.

My suggestion - No experience gain run. There are patches that do that. It'll be fun, instead of "time to grind" you can say "time to catch more"

it's weird to see that Wally fight is much more harder than Psychic gym one. usually fighting Tate & Liza is insanely hard, but to be fair, they don't have to spam Calm Mind that many times, so it's basically thanks to MDB's luck there so that fight didn't get as hard as usual.

i think next week you should do pokemon black and white with typhlosion octillary slacking lapras rapidash and ursaring!! solo challenges are seemingly harder in black and white with exp curves so maybe you can see if its a good challenge to beat it with a hand picked team of 6

I was going to complain about starting with Slaking but your reasoning makes sense since once it evolved into Vigoroth you would have breezed though like have the game removing most of the challenge. Thank you for doing this run since Slakoth/Slaking had recently moved up as one of my favorite pokemon after having started a run with it myself. However, my run was in Black 2 and a lot of the trainers seem to understand how to use Truant to their advantage, timing and repeatedly using moves like Dig so that you can never hit them until they run out of PP (and of course you don't get Earthquake to counter that until post-game).
Also side note, it's too bad Slack Off doesn't have any bonus effects like clearing volatile status conditions (Torment, Confusion, Infatuation, Seeded, etc.) like how Rest clears normal status afflictions or Roost removes flying for the turn. They could have even made that part unique to pokemon with the Truant ability since it functionally turns it into Rest anyways.
Probably op, but it also would have been nice if it was the only move that worked during truant.
After watching Pikasprey beat the game with only Slakoth I knew this was going to end much quicker in comparison. Even with Truant, Slaking hits like a truck, so it's way easier.

Aren't MissingNo and Bad Egg the only glitch pokemon? Only one of which can battle, and I believe the other is only in gen 1. Unless you mean a shiny Porygon (because it's rendering the wrong colors) or Porygon-Z because it has a virus. Which doesn't really "feel" like Halloween.
@@asherdevin Red/Blue & Yellow have complete Glitchdexes. MissingNo is just the most famous glitchmon out there.
the issue is that a lot of glitch pokemon are either hybrids of regular pokemon (same stats and type as regular pokemon), have a sprite that crashes the game, learn a move that crashes the game, or constantly try to evolve.
not sure if the seven or so rb glitchmons that don't fall into that category (> A, ♀Pゥ ゥゥT, ゥ, --, c, ゥ$, ゥI(hex F2), 94 h) could be obtained using the universal pokemon randomizer or be encountered in the wild.
@ This is why I’m using the Pokémon Yellow disassembly to make replicas of these guys. Same base stats, same movesets minus the glitch moves, copying their sprites if they don’t crash the game… it’s basically making sterile clones in a lot of senses. There’s other hurdles too like how some have glitched experience curves that don’t work correctly, they cause coloured border around the UI in battle, or are attached to a glitch trainer battle.
But by making them from the ground up you avoid all that.
MDBAMA: have you ever been into Trading Card Games like magic the gathering, yugioh, or the pokemon tcg?
For a challenge like this, I thought of kings rock+Fury Swipes (81 damage for 3 hits, and good flinch chances, to make up for the truant turn), but you have to get fury swipes from vigoroth so you can’t use it in this challenge
