I have had my SC NUC for about a year, I added 32GB of RAM and 2 512GB SSD's. I run it 24/7 under heavy load, usually with 24 copies of some pretty heavy duty communications programs as well as a graphic's-intensive radar tracking application. I use a pair of HD 32-inch monitors connected to the MDP ports. The case does not even feel warm to the touch on top and I have never heard the fans running nor had any of the random reboots discussed in this comment section. To set it up I installed Windows after installing the memory and SSD's, took about an hour to download and install a gazillion drivers then installed my applications. This has been a great performer for me and was a great value. I would most certainly buy the same computer today.
I really liked the way u told us about the I/O and brief description of the nuc...kindly make some benchmark videos with some AAA games..so that we get a better idea of how amd Vega performs..
I would love to see the details of its thermal performance, power consumption and FPS count in the games that u will be testing..hope u come out with something different from the others...
I recorded a video playing World of Tanks High-Def version with every graphics setting set to maximum and saw 105-125fps with a Max TPD of 121w and the blowers spun up and back down during gameplay as I was trying to capture the blower noise on the video.
I assume the Thunderbolt 3 ports don't support input charging (ie the NUC itself)? What is power consumption under typical loads (for different usages: surfing, video, High CPU & Low GPU, and vice versa, and of course the ultimate all in 100% CPU & GPU load). I'm trying to estimate typical current (in Amps) needed to power it for avg. and max load use, and thus the possibility to hook it to a powerbank for a true mobile use (when away from the wall-socket) ... obviously power management wouldn't be major consideration when powered by its power-brick from a wall socket. Looks great! Of course we might have to wait a bit to see exact benchmarks, but I expect them to be very good at least :) P.S. My desktop incl. GTX1080 OC-edition can be somewhat noisy (though it's the older power and cpu cooling rather the GTX1080 fans that produce most of the noise), but I can't notice it thru my noise-cancelling headphones ;)
I just shot a video of the blowers, taking the Hades completely apart. The blowers are considerably larger than the Skull Canyon and as such, can spin a lot slower to create more airflow. As a result, they are pretty quiet under normal loads and even running an AAA game they spun up for a bit, then back down. They spun down more than spun up.
Howdy Amanda. We will be supporting the Australia and New Zealand sales from our US office. The Base Kits are $999 and $799, but we will be offering them with 8GB of DDR4-2400 CL16 memory and a 128GB High-Performance SATA SSD for $1159 and $999. Windows Home is a $120 adder. All amounts in USD. For those purchasing the 32GB Memory option, we will be offering the HyperX DDR4-2400 CL14 Gaming DIMMs as these have a noticeable performance difference.
I have a gaming pc i built with a gtx 1070 but thinking of selling it because im having some software issues, will this hades canyon nuc be good enough to replace my gaming pc?
This article might help you see how it compares to other GPUs. The general consensus is that this will be a great gaming device. www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-hades-canyon-nuc-vr,5536.html
Howdy. It comes with an Intel 8265 802.11ac (bgn) 2x2 (867Mbps) "Gigabit" Wireless Radio that also has Bluetooth 4.2 support. I realize now that I did not see the antennas during my video shots, so when I get the prototype back from CES on Saturday, I will try and find and video record the antenna locations. As to thermal throttling, I ran World of Tanks High-Def client with every single graphics setting set to the maximum and got 105-125 fps with around 121 Max TPD. I shot a video of the gameplay, trying to capture the blower noise, but the blowers spun up and back down during gameplay. I do not believe I ever experienced any throttling. This was with prototype graphics drivers.
The unit is larger than the Skull Canyon and quite a bit heavier. During our brief testing of the prototype prior to shipping it to CES, we never got any throttling to occur that we could detect. The blowers under heavy game load spun up and back down during gameplay.
We haven't heard of random reboots on the Skull Canyons we have built. Mostly its a Windows driver problem that invokes a reset event when the IRQ generates a mismatch. We make sure we are installing the latest drivers and BIOS updates so all NUCs that come from Simply NUC are operating flawlessly. If not, we make sure to help resolve the issue for the customer.
It's quite a big issue on forums. Still trying to fix mine, It may be Samsung m.2 nvme drives just not 100% sure. People having these problems seem to also have Samsung drives. Unfortunately that's all I have so I can't try any other m.2., I tried the usual, Such as bios updates,m.2 firmware, reseat memory and still no luck. Would love a new Hades Canyon NUC but this problem has put me off any new NUC purchase.
Thank you kindly for the offer,I'll keep at it for a while longer. I have tried something different from another owner on intel forum with the same issue, Disabled hyperthreading and turbo boost which I don't need, as it's only a media player under my old Sony Bravia (non smart)tv in lounge room, So far 2 days without reboot. Also changed the cooling to custom and made the fan curve a little more aggressive, Could possibly be that if so I'll turn back on turbo and hyperthreading and see if it still stays stable. Seems weird but I'll keep monitoring it for another week, usually would reboot in that time frame, Sometimes 2 reboots a day then it's good for a few days.
Howdy Shane, there was a Hyper-Threading bug in the past that turning off Turbo Boost or Hyper-Threading would fix. In my initial testing of the NUC7i7BNH, I did have the screen freezes and reboots depending on system configuration (and usually aggressive operation) I worked with Intel for about 2 months before we tracked it down to the Hyper-Threading bug. A BIOS update resolved the problem and the system is completely stable. I know the Skull Canyon has the same Hyper-Threading bug and there is a new BIOS out for it. Update the BIOS and see if the problem goes away.
Thank you..are there any similar (small size) mini PCs with great dedicated graphics for gaming like GTX 1070 or higher that I can order on Amazon? my uncle is coming to Jordan from the States and he can bring one for me, and said he can only buy from Amazon or best buy
Howdy Fadi, I apologize for missing your question. I don't know of any. There have been prototypes from other vendors, but I have not seen any of them go into production. The Hades Canyon is the first hybrid-discrete graphics solution I have seen that I know will go to market.
Howdy Sultan, I apologize for missing your question. Usually early purchasers get first access to new products, but in this case, earlier buyers got a discount since Intel reported the wrong price to us. If you already placed your order, you might see that the same configuration is now higher. We will be honoring the lower prices though. We also do volume discounts (one customer pre-ordered 20 Hades Canyons)
Thanks Charles, I really want one Hades Canyon NUC or other i7 Nuc's but I can't afford the price it is excessive. I hope to find one for cheap price. Have A Good Day
They (dual blowers) are actually surprisingly quiet. You can hear them when the unit is being pushed but under normal operation they are noticeably quieter than Skull Canyon
Howdy Trayo. I ran World of Tanks High-Def client with every single graphics setting set to maximum when I shot a video of it in the studio, video coming soon. With this setup, the blowers spun up and back down during gameplay and I don't think I ever got any throttling. I was attempting to record the blower noise in the video. In this setup, I got 105-125fps with a Max TPD of 121 watts. The video drivers are not the production version and we believe we will get more performance out of the production drivers.
well i would use it just for making music (fl Studio, Studio one etc... no need for gaming... maybe CS GO from time to time...) as i allready tried with my skull canyon the Power was very impressive... thats why im asking about these damn fans...dont want to spend 1000 Euro again for something i wont use in the end because of the noise
Howdy Trayo. There are a few new videos of it uploaded including one of the blower sound levels during a benchmark. There are also a couple related to teardown and a blower comparison of the single Skull Canyon blower to the two Hades Canyon blowers. Check the SimplyNUC channel for new videos (or subscribe)
Thank you for pointing that out. I must have omitted that. Thunderbolt 1 and 2 are supported by the mDP connector where Thunderbolt 3 is only on the USB Type-C connector. Realize I shot my video before Linus did his and we were just prevented from releasing it until Intel announced the product at CES.
Howdy Brent, sorry I missed your question. On the back are two USB Type-C connectors that have the following interfaces supported on them; USB 3.1 Gen 2 at 10Gbps (and backward compatible with USB 3.0 and 2.0), DisplayPort 1.2 (I think 13Gbps to support 3 monitors), and Thunderbolt 3 at 40Gbps. The USB Type-C connector on the front panel only has USB 3.1 Gen 2 routed to it for 10Gbps and backwards support for USB 3.0 and 2.0
LTT first look is just that, scratching the surface. I found more info on this video than most other channel at the moment because he got the ACTUAL UNIT to play with. Look at the teardown video.
I shot my video before Linus did his. I really liked his enthusiasm for the product and share it. I will be purchasing one when I can. But he did more of an introduction to the product instead of a deep dive. I am certainly not the showman that Linus is, so make sure to give technical details he doesn't do.
Once I get the prototype back from CES, I will be doing another video showing where the wireless antennas are, since I don't remember seeing them. I also have a video going up that will show some gameplay and blower sound levels (which are good). I *may* even attempt to remove the motherboard to show off the other side.
I now have teardown videos showing the motherboard removal, comparing the single Skull Canyon blower to the two Hades Canyon blowers, and another showing off the blower sound levels

Working on some game play video now. Seeing 60-70 fps on AAA titles at highest settings.
I would love to see the details of its thermal performance, power consumption and FPS count in the games that u will be testing..hope u come out with something different from the others...

Might be a dumb question but I am curious...will i be able to do sli using both thunderbolt inputs?
Compared to NUC7i5BNK, how is the fan noise in idle and under load? Can the fan can remain off in idle? How about the NUC8i7HNK model?
I just shot a video of the blowers, taking the Hades completely apart. The blowers are considerably larger than the Skull Canyon and as such, can spin a lot slower to create more airflow. How much will this be as the skull canyon still sells for $800 here in aus.

Does it come with any kind of built in Wifi adapter & please would love to hear any occurrence of thermal throttling if it's taking place.
It has a wifi dual ac band..and a much bulkier heat sink..but now we have to see how it performs under heavy load

you forgot to mention that it has thunderbolt 3... watch linustechtips video on the 'first look' at the haydes canyon

I went back to check the video and I did mention that there are 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports at 5:50, so I am not sure where I forgot to mention it.
Charles Abdouch you did mention TB3 but keep saying it's 10gb. So this isn't 40 or even 20gbps, only USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds?

no vga 0/10
kek
We have HDMI to VGA, mDP to VGA, and Type-C to VGA adapters and cables, so technically you can support up to 6 VGA monitors simultaneously.
I'm going to report you for spam, you've put down the exact same comment in about 10 other videos of this thing.
who use vga?
Buy a new monitor or TV.
no 2.5 SSD bay ?
No but it does have dual M.2 slots.
