Exciting to see an RGB header on the motherboard. You could put in something like the T-Force Team Delta RGB SSD in there and see the lights, if that's your thing.

Received my NUC8i7BEH from Simply NUC this afternoon -- an upgrade from my NUC7i7BNH. I pulled the RAM (32GB) and drives (1TB SSD and 2TB HDD) from the old NUC and installed them into the new NUC in a manner of minutes. The difference on booting up and executing software is notable. You should download and install Intel's Driver and Support Assistant to install/update drivers. The different lids for the Gen 8 NUCs will take a while to come into the market, since the body dimensions are just a little different (as per the video). I have the dual USB-2 lid on my old NUC -- used for mouse and keyboard. Overall I'm quite pleased and the Gen 8 CPUs bring NUCs into the "no excuses needed" category for most PC work.
[Updated] Where I got the most fan noise in my NUC 7 was during longer PhotoShop sessions and when I was resampling full length movies. Most of what I've done the past few days has been a lot of file moving and deleting whilst organizing files on the NUC and cross-organizing with my laptop. That said, I don't recall the NUC 8 fan spinning up like the older model did. Update: Today I moved 51.8GB (8500+ files) from the NUC 8 to a Samsung 500GB T5 portable. This task was long enough (though pretty fast, since everything was USB 3.1) to get things warmed up. I used CPUID HWMonitor to track the temperatures. Eventually, 3 of the 4 cores maxed at 100C and the 4th to 98C. But the fan held things to those levels. You could hear it changing speeds to keep things under control. My totally unscientific impression is that this is quieter than my old NUC. The central air conditioning noise in the room was higher than the NUC's -- that may say more about the A/C than the NUC. A second transfer was 18.2GB (21,800 files). I timed it: 1 min/55secs. One core got up to 92C, the others up to 88C. You could hear the fan changing speeds, but it never got up to the speed of the first transfer. The NUC is about 26 inches/66 cm from my ears. (The T5 maxed at 47C on the first transfer, and 43C on the second).
Thanks for sharing about this! I didn't realize one could purchase a lid that has additional ports. I'll definitely be looking for one. Is it easy to install? Does the alternate lid have to plug into the motherboard somewhere? Are the lids made by Intel or a third party? Thanks in advance!
GORITE (www.gorite.com/) is an Intel partner. They make a range of lids with different ports. For my NUC 7 I got the lid with two USB 2 ports to connect my keyboard and mouse. There are two USB 2 connectors on the motherboard. You will need to open up the NUC to do this. GORITE has a video that shows how to do it (which wasn't available when I installed mine). You'll need some needle-nose pliers and/or curved hemostats to do the installation. Again, nothing available for the NUC 8 as of this post.

My NUC7i7bnh is really loud and quite warm when under load (Handbrake video encoding). I'd like to see a video of the two NUCs side-by-side showing temps and comparing audio levels. I often wear ear protection to drown out the high-pitched blower.
SFseis Thanks. I did try various speed settings in the BIOS, but I prefer system longevity to noise level. My NUC is fully loaded with 32GB, M.2 & spinning disk. My house gets above 30°C in the summer, and the NUC was above 90°C. I've been planning a new 3d-printed top with an 80mm fan, but I hate to remove the current cooler.
I should be able to provide some information about the performance, throttling and heat. Our impressions are really good as we are using the prototype as our corporate server now to really test it.
I hate to be thick, but where does the 2.5" SSD plug in? I didn't see where that would happen on the motherboard. On a couple of older images I found in an internet search, it looked like the SSD slides into the top or bottom somehow, and that it lays parallel to the motherboard. Is this correct? I plan to use an existing 2.5" SSD for my main drive for the NUC and just want to be sure I know how/where it installs. :)

To the left of it there's a black cable hooked into the board with a white connecter. That's the power. Both those cables are for the 2,5" drive. I could barely get this model (slim) and I must say that after adding 16 GB RAM, NVME disk, it's a monster and sad to say, but can reasily replace my desktop :) I haven't played games on it yet (runs as a server with high load).

Desktop PC - 4 cores 8 threads ... i7 price tag. So greedy. I wish AMD would compete in this space with a low power 2200GE and 2400GE Ryzen competitor. Intel are abusing customers. We might also see some half decent integrated graphics.
Now this is the mac mini apple should've released. Decent upgradability, a fairly reasonable price tag, and besides the graphics on this is in theory quite a bit better than the UHD 630 included on the mac mini.

@@flipnap2112 Okay, I respect that. I built a Hackintosh a couple years ago with an i7-6700K and an r9 390X and it has been very stable for video editing and audio work. I generally prefer Windows, so my primary machine is another Windows computer. But really whatever works for you is the best thing you can have.
Intel said max ram size 32GB not support 64GB, plus its very expensive on your website when build , some hardware more less price in many websites then yours
@Jasmin Klipic there are threads on this issue in the Intel forums. The 'bricking' I am referring to is related to the HDMI output that can be permanently killed through the BIOS upgrade, done via USB stick method. It happened to me. And others. So yes 'bricking' may not be the correct description, but it is still permanent damage to one of the two video-out ports.
@Jasmin Klipic yes 8i7BEH - I have open case with Intel on this issue. It also happened before with older model i5 I am not saying it will ALWAYS happen, but it has happened to me twice and many others - google "Intel NuC HDMI not working" I am in the business and supply computers
the 2.5 should work fine. You would want to make sure that your laptop memory is compatible. would need to be a so-dimm but you don't have to use dual bank.
They may have announced them, but I can't seem to actually find any, from anyone. It is possible that some 3rd party did a stacked SO-DIMM, but some of those are so thick, that won't fit in stacked sockets. If you can provide a link to someone that actually has them, I should be able to get two for testing and report back. Thank you,
@@Billy18bm I have few windows 10 and couple win7 installed systems. I most definitely can't say windows 7 is lighter operating system. Windows 10 seems to be faster in many cases.
Dear Concern, Could you comment if I can install the following M.2 drive in the tall kit (with 2.5 SSD option)? it has height 6mm for the cooling frame. There is a thermal pad to help sink the heat away from the SSD. While we normally use SSDs that don't have their own cooling attachment, the thermal pad is thick and soft and should squish around the SSDs cooling solution just fine. Intel NUCs support double-sided SSDs which many or most laptops don't and with both SATA and PCIe, we have not tested an SSD that did not work yet.
Unfortunately, we're not allowed to release performance metrics until production models, which in some cases, the pre-production did not perform as well as production models due to driver issues. We can say that the CPU performance is slightly better than the Hades Canyon and the GPU performance is somewhat like the Skull Canyon.
Just buy an Asrock Deskmini 110 with an 65W i7 CPU (a Noctua L9i cooler fits in perfectly). It has been around for years now and it is still cheaper than this one. Size is almost the same as well ! Who would buy this intel overpriced box ?
Are you thinking of the DeskMini 310? While I would normally agree about the pricing vs past NUCs, you have to consider the I/O options of the NUC8i7BEH especially. Depending on sourcing a 65W i7-8700 is gonna be about $300 (low estimate), so now the DeskMini 310 + CPU is ~$400 vs the ~$500 NUC8i7BEH. When you spec them out the NUC8i7BEH is not really "overpriced", and not with the Thunderbolt 3 port in the mix. The DeskMini 310 is also running USB 3.1 Gen1, not Gen2. There are definite use cases for both boards, and the prices are competitive.
The screaming planned obsolescence of NUCs and imitators is a bit disturbing from both lifecycle cost and waste disposal perspectives. With only modest upsizing to the form factor to stop relying on laptop-spec components, eschewing the jam-max-RAM philosophy, and down-spec clock rates you could have slightly larger, long-lifecycle, cooler running, more significantly upgradeable devices. Plenty of room for innovation, competition, higher value, and customer loyalty.
Respectfully Bob, you couldn't be more wrong. Laptop components are in highest demand due to mobile processors finally having competitive performance to their desktop counterparts. This demand means there going to be more affordable and most likely take over the market except for the few Niche exceptions or raw power is truly applicable. As far as reliability and Longevity goes they are physically equal if not advantaged because do to their lower tdp's. You might be confusing there reliability with the data pulled from the laptop Market which is skewed due to the fact that laptop's get extremely abused. Their failure has nothing to do with component architecture, unless you're talking about value laptops and their continually failing air flow designs. ive picked up a nuc8i7beh and it out performs every desktop in my office. 4.5ghz i7 with a GTX1070 eGPU wired to Thunberbolt3 for my casual gaming needs. its actually replaced my laptop because i can just plug it in to any hotel tv. in fact, if thunderbolt 3 was around to solve weak gpu in my i7 3770s laptop, i would have been very happy sticking with that. i/o is key here, with tb3 and usb3.1 ver2, I'm confident this will be future-proof at least 8 to 10 years out!
I think the 8th generation Bean Canyon NUC is a really nice package with the quad-core and 8 processing threads. I have the last generation with the 7th generation i7 with the dual-core and I honestly wished most times for a quad-core. I won the 7th gen i7 NUC and added in some nice hardware myself into it: 16GB RAM, 500GB Samsung NVMe, and a 2TB 5400rpm storage drive. I wish I had the 8th generation, the only difference I would do is bump up to 32GB ram. I like the NUC a lot but again, but I think this 8th generation i7 is the sweet spot.
I m IT guy so using this pc for several sites it a garbage . Continuously window get corrupted. Restarting few time it's gonna end in corrupt windows. I would not recommend it to anyone
Sounds like you may have gotten a bad unit. If you purchased it from us we will happily swap it out for a new one. We have shipped thousands of these and the fallout rate is less than half of one percent. I would suggest returning the unit to Intel for a replacement if you didn't purchase it from Simply NUC.
@@simplynuc neaaah I didn't purchase a single piece it around 100 pieces purchased. With specs 4 GB ram. I3 . We use it normally as ds player . It not worth it. Continuous win corrupt . And heat issue are two main cause.

I would look into replacing those on one system with higher quality parts to see if that resolves the issues. Simply NUC only uses quality parts that have passed our performance and reliability requirements.
@@simplynuc I am talking about exactly model no. Ip975. One more drawback for this model is no audio jack we must use adaptor to connect audio. And now recently we purchased new model for one bank around 20 pcs. With specs i5 .they work really well. I think the model was ip 985.

you upgraded from a bnh to a nearly identical beh? for the what, 0.5ghz bump? I think you're missing the point of the nuc's design.

Will this really support 64GB (2 x 32 GB) ? Looked at all the specs available online and nowhere do they say it supports more than 32 GB.
Maximum is 2 x 16GB 32GB total.
At 7:05 he says it will support 64 Gigs whenever 32G SO DIMMS become available in future. That's why I was questioning this.
I have 64GB in mine. Runs great as a little Hyper-v server.
Do NOT try to upgrade the BIOS unless you want to risk bricking this thing. Just live with whatever it comes with.
@Jasmin Klipic there are threads on this issue in the Intel forums. The 'bricking' I am referring to is related to the HDMI output that can be permanently killed through the BIOS upgrade, done via USB stick method. It happened to me. And others. So yes 'bricking' may not be the correct description, but it is still permanent damage to one of the two video-out ports.

You can do that through the Thunderbolt port.

the 2.5 should work fine. You would want to make sure that your laptop memory is compatible. would need to be a so-dimm but you don't have to use dual bank.

Samsung announced the 32gig sodimm modules in may 2018 so they already exist
They may have announced them, but I can't seem to actually find any, from anyone. It is possible that some 3rd party did a stacked SO-DIMM, but some of those are so thick, that won't fit in stacked sockets. If you can provide a link to someone that actually has them, I should be able to get two for testing and report back.

The new NUC8 series does not support Windows 7. Intel has no drivers for it. Windows 10 only.
Maybe you want windows 98 support as well?
@@YalokIy The previous NUCs supported Windows 7 and Windows 10. Drivers for download are on their website but not for this NUC8.
Also, it doesn't support Windows 8.

@@Billy18bm I have few windows 10 and couple win7 installed systems. I most definitely can't say windows 7 is lighter operating system. Windows 10 seems to be faster in many cases.

Could you comment if I can install the following M.2 drive in the tall kit (with 2.5 SSD option)? it has height 6mm for the cooling frame. Or, is it absolutely necessary to choose the thinner M.2 disk like Samsung NVMe (having a height less than .35 cm)? Please reply to make decisions in the purchase.

We have had thick M.2 SSD 2280's in there. It has a thick pad that compresses down, but not enough to cause damage to the board.
There is a thermal pad to help sink the heat away from the SSD. While we normally use SSDs that don't have their own cooling attachment, the thermal pad is thick and soft and should squish around the SSDs cooling solution just fine. Intel NUCs support double-sided SSDs which many or most laptops don't and with both SATA and PCIe, we have not tested an SSD that did not work yet.

Unfortunately, we're not allowed to release performance metrics until production models, which in some cases, the pre-production did not perform as well as production models due to driver issues. We can say that the CPU performance is slightly better than the Hades Canyon and the GPU performance is somewhat like the Skull Canyon.

Just buy an Asrock Deskmini 110 with an 65W i7 CPU (a Noctua L9i cooler fits in perfectly). It has been around for years now and it is still cheaper than this one. Size is almost the same as well ! Who would buy this intel overpriced box ?
Are you thinking of the DeskMini 310? While I would normally agree about the pricing vs past NUCs, you have to consider the I/O options of the NUC8i7BEH especially. Depending on sourcing a 65W i7-8700 is gonna be about $300 (low estimate), so now the DeskMini 310 + CPU is ~$400 vs the ~$500 NUC8i7BEH.
When you spec them out the NUC8i7BEH is not really "overpriced", and not with the Thunderbolt 3 port in the mix. The DeskMini 310 is also running USB 3.1 Gen1, not Gen2.
There are definite use cases for both boards, and the prices are competitive.

We quit buying the NUCs. They would burn out around the 1 year mark. Switched to the HP zMini and they are lasting longer.
Can I ask what you are using them for and if you purchased them from us?
They also have a three year warranty from Intel so if they are failing due to the NUC (Very rare as far as what we see) Intel will replace them.

The screaming planned obsolescence of NUCs and imitators is a bit disturbing from both lifecycle cost and waste disposal perspectives.
With only modest upsizing to the form factor to stop relying on laptop-spec components, eschewing the jam-max-RAM philosophy, and down-spec clock rates you could have slightly larger, long-lifecycle, cooler running, more significantly upgradeable devices. Plenty of room for innovation, competition, higher value, and customer loyalty.
Respectfully Bob, you couldn't be more wrong. Laptop components are in highest demand due to mobile processors finally having competitive performance to their desktop counterparts. This demand means there going to be more affordable and most likely take over the market except for the few Niche exceptions or raw power is truly applicable. As far as reliability and Longevity goes they are physically equal if not advantaged because do to their lower tdp's. You might be confusing there reliability with the data pulled from the laptop Market which is skewed due to the fact that laptop's get extremely abused. Their failure has nothing to do with component architecture, unless you're talking about value laptops and their continually failing air flow designs. ive picked up a nuc8i7beh and it out performs every desktop in my office. 4.5ghz i7 with a GTX1070 eGPU wired to Thunberbolt3 for my casual gaming needs. its actually replaced my laptop because i can just plug it in to any hotel tv. in fact, if thunderbolt 3 was around to solve weak gpu in my i7 3770s laptop, i would have been very happy sticking with that. i/o is key here, with tb3 and usb3.1 ver2, I'm confident this will be future-proof at least 8 to 10 years out!
I think the 8th generation Bean Canyon NUC is a really nice package with the quad-core and 8 processing threads. I have the last generation with the 7th generation i7 with the dual-core and I honestly wished most times for a quad-core. I won the 7th gen i7 NUC and added in some nice hardware myself into it: 16GB RAM, 500GB Samsung NVMe, and a 2TB 5400rpm storage drive. I wish I had the 8th generation, the only difference I would do is bump up to 32GB ram. I like the NUC a lot but again, but I think this 8th generation i7 is the sweet spot.
I m IT guy so using this pc for several sites it a garbage . Continuously window get corrupted. Restarting few time it's gonna end in corrupt windows. I would not recommend it to anyone
Sounds like you may have gotten a bad unit. If you purchased it from us we will happily swap it out for a new one. We have shipped thousands of these and the fallout rate is less than half of one percent. I would suggest returning the unit to Intel for a replacement if you didn't purchase it from Simply NUC.
@@simplynuc neaaah I didn't purchase a single piece it around 100 pieces purchased. With specs 4 GB ram. I3 . We use it normally as ds player . It not worth it. Continuous win corrupt . And heat issue are two main cause.
@@farukkhan1641 Sorry to hear that. It sounds like it could be an issue with lower end RAM or SSD's. I would look into replacing those on one system with higher quality parts to see if that resolves the issues. Simply NUC only uses quality parts that have passed our performance and reliability requirements.
@@simplynuc I am talking about exactly model no. Ip975. One more drawback for this model is no audio jack we must use adaptor to connect audio.
And now recently we purchased new model for one bank around 20 pcs. With specs i5 .they work really well.
I think the model was ip 985.
