@BentleyTurpin-st9zt I got it in my first 10 and at first I really liked it (I still do Tbf) but dialga’s immersive animation is so much better imo after actually looking at both
Rampardos and specially Yanmega will see a lot of new decks soon. Rampardos hits harder than a lot of Stage 2 EX Pokemon for 1 energy while also being one point meaning dying from knockback is less meaningful when you are just losing a point and 1 energy. Yanmega is basically the devs designing a counter for Darkrai.
I pulled 2 palkias and 2 yanmegas relatively quickly and was thinking of a decks to build running them both all alongside melmetal and it's pretty solid, still thinking of which supports card to use since I haven't pulled many of the new ones
7:25 "the amount of people that didn't realise they couldn't evolve their magneton" Yup. I was people. Jeremiah got me like that. Amazing tournament hahaha
I'm toying around with a dialga + magnezone + exeggutor (mythical island) deck rn, honestly really powerful into a lot of things. If the opponent's active pokemon has 4 energy on it (fully powered dialga, palkia, mew2, char, gary) it deals 160 damage, one shotting a lot of the meta right now, if darkrai has 2 energy on it, it gets one shot, if dialga or palkia has 4 energy and a cape at full health, you one shot with Giovanni. You pretty much have to run mythical island eggsecute to get the grass energy, but that allows for some interesting combos if you run the ex as well, for example: you go second, and have eggsecute in active and dialga on bench, in your turn you do growth spurt to put grass energy on egg, they do their move, you then can exspeed out the egg into dialga, dawn the metal energy from egg, put one from the zone, and attack with dialga, putting back 2 energy into egg (this now opens up the possibility to either evolve into MI exeggutor or exeggutor ex with the option of retreating without leaf) all while passively setting up magnezone when you can. It's not perfect, but it's a really cool deck idea that I'm gonna test around with more, please let me know if you guys try it and what your variations are
Yup - as it happens, I actually don't have any Misty cards in my collection yet! Even if I did though, I think I'd probably lean more into Dawn anyways since that always gives me a guaranteed 1 energy from a Starmie or Manaphy instead of bricking half the time on Misty flips, and that 1 energy can often make the difference between getting to Dimensional Storm or not. That said: Misty could certainly work here, especially in matches where you don't get Manaphy as an opener. Currently I'm tweaking my deck by taking out one of the Dawns for a Sabrina - this could help with tempo or getting past a pesky Druddigon. If I had any copies of it, I'd also consider subbing out one of the X Speeds for a Pokemon Communication since a good Manaphy lead doesn't exactly care about saving its energy and Starmie EX has free retreat.
@TribalSeedlings Would love to see how the deck turns out after the tweaking. I personally do play Misty instead of Dawn, but replacing it with other supporters could definitely be the play.
My favorite game in the tournament was that one Charizard player who bm-ed the aggro Darkrai player for bricking and immediately got Karma by timing out and losing his Moltres to a Farfetch'd 😂
2:46 I actually theory crafted this when i first saw darkrai but i have yet to pull even a single copy lol looks super strong because of just constant chip pressure on the active slot making it really hard to keep carries in especially early on
I just want to appreciate your content man, I love how your videos are edited, they are straight to the point, informative and you teach how to play the decks.
There's nothing I love more than a non-EX aggro deck with very low energy costs and quick pivots. Rampardos obviously stood out early and I'm glad to see it already has some relevance. Can't wait to see some of the variations on this and what people wind up doing with cards like Leafeon.
People are SLEEPING on Mewtwo EX, still easily one of the best most consistent decks. (PSydrive only needs 2 Psychic energy, meaning the Dawn + Magneton tech works with it for faster ramping!)
Won against that Darkrai deck with my own hacked together Darkrai Greninja deck that only has one Darkrai ex. Don't have all the cards yet, but still won.
Loving all the crazy decks out there. Definitely going to keep messing with Palkia. The Starmie setup is super good. Though also love trying to sneak in Glaceon with Vaporeon for that other variant. The grass decks are looking fun too. And yeah no shock that Darkrai is crazy good!
I feel like Lucario hasn't been explored enough. Marowack can one-shot a majority of the meta with both coin flips, along with Kabotops taking a single energy. Retreat cost for both is a single energy, so you can play without Leaf, leaving room for other Trainers like Cyrus, or Tools.
I'm running Lucario + Machamp EX, it's crazy strong people are really sleeping on it. Before you even get Machamp set up (which happens much more with communication now) you have basics and Machoke hitting super hard thanks to Luca. I've won games with Machoke sweeping for 90 or 70 hits back to back
I really like that with manaphy, water decks can actually cut Misty from their lists. Also I wonder why Magnezone ended up only being played alongside Darkcry. It is a stage 2 pokemon but it pretty much builds its own energy so why is it doing so well with Darkcry but not with other basic EX decks? Like Palkia, pachirisu and pika?
Darkrai magnezone is so unfun to play against. Your opponent being able to set up two threats at the same time behind a wall (and still deal damage at the same time) while most other decks can only set up one attacker at a time feels unfair
I noticed that Palkia EX and Articuno EX did markedly better than the other versions in this tournament and Ursiidays Pocket Weekly despite less representation. Even more interestingly is that of those decks the ones that performed the best were playing 1 or 0 pokemon communication. My thoughts are that the consistency of the Palkia strategy is excellent but it is fragile and rigid. Being able to be flexible and spread damage over the team will save you in games against Darkrai.
I just made a deck and tried to it out, so far I took out a 140 hp articuno in a single turn using recoil druddigon, greninja snipe, and darkrai ability+attack. Only using dark energy, but I added 2 misty for the greninja just in case I really need it to attack, plus a dawn to move the water between 2 greninjas. Cape on darkrai, and when I get rocky helmet I am SO putting that on druddigon, 40 hp recoil is crazy. I also potioned my greninja so they couldn't cyrus me but I had a second druddigon on the bench I'd happily let them switch me to 😂
Cimoooooooo had to spell out how Palkia doesn't just auto-suck based on the energy backlash from Dimensional Storm. I might explore trying to slot that into a water deck after all.
Gotta admit, it saddens me a little bit to not see a single trace of Dialga anywhere, especially considering just how much hype it had and potential it seemed to bring ot the table. Hopefully this changes in the future.
Im like 2 cards away from pretty much every deck you showed. Thankfully i literally just got my first Cyrus right before i watched the vid but i either have 0 copies of some cards, like Lucario, Magnezone and even the Rocky Helmut, or i just have a single copy like Darkrei EX and Cyrus. I guess i have to do some subbing and see if i can make a couple frankenstein versions of these decks.
I've literally been waiting to get Bastiodon for an almost identical Skarmpry/Bastiodon brew I came up with on release.... and I'm waiting on Shaymin (still have none despite over 50 Dialga packs smh) for my surprise deck that runs an unexpected/unused ex pokemon that I think is really slept on
My favorite is the Weezing/Darkrai deck. Spiritomb to open and hit everyone for damage. Get Weezing out, Cyrus the basic/Stage 1 they need to get online and poison them, Darkrai for extra damage.
It's decks like these that make me a bit sad that the game caps the number of decks you can have saved to 15. So many new and interesting decks coming out of Space-Time Smackdown, along with the decks that remain strong from the past. Hope you do an updated tier list to sort out what decks are really occupying those top tiers.
I built a Yanmega/Eggs deck,, and only had 1 x Yanmega ex, so I put a copy of Shaymin in there. Had no idea it was actually a meta choice. Hopefully draw my 2nd Yanmega ex soon, and can finish the deck.
I’ve been winning a ton with gallade, lucario, hitmonlee. It beats the darkrai and palkia decks pretty easily unless you get a bad draw and can’t evolve to gallade.
I don't really get this criticism, they've clearly considered the battling a lot. The balance and variety in strategy is pretty impressive with the exception on just a couple cards (ahem, misty)
Yanmega ex is cool but I’m not finding the colorless to be a benefit because it is in grass decks anyways. What are people pairing it with outside of grass?
@Doc_oc120 I mean, 49% is half of the meta, considering that variance exists. It's perfectly normal for a meta deck to have winrate slightly less than 50% in a tournament.
that celebi deck.. I'm just curious. what happens if you don't draw a monster card? does the game guarantee 100% that you draw a basic at the beginning? if so then I assume that could be wildly abused. jw, having only 4 monsters- 16 others.
Hey Spragels! I was wondering if you’d be able to try out this Lucario deck I’ve built. I’m not normally the one to build a good deck but I feel like I cooked up something sneaky here. It’s 2x Riolu 2x Lucario 2x Hitmonchan 2x Clobbopus 2x Grapploct 2x Pokeball 2x Professors 2x leafs 2x cyrus 2x giants cape I hope you get the chance to try it out and I’d love to hear your feedback back!
I just beat that Magnezone Darkrai deck with Lucario/Kabutops. There’s no way I’m the only one who came up with that deck! It’s so good and no EX which means no free points for the opponent!
With the Celebi, why run the two Poke Balls? you have one Base Pokemon always in your starting hand, so you can only search with one poke ball the other one will always fail. 🤔
I think dialga suffers from the addition of Cyrus in the set. A big stupid wall that costs 2 points and can be sniped from your bench with a trainer card just doesn't cut it. 120 damage from melmetal is also looking sad when everyone is running giant capes as well.
