The Keyboard line Jan plays at 6.34 I have to say it he is still one of the most underrated keyboard players no one played like that on a Rhodes and Never since he was inspired by John so much and this band have never been surpassed the entire energy and the music is unbelievable God had a hand in bringing them together the original line up so special

I wouldn't say He was underrated ,but just didn't get the recognition that more commercial bands got.Yes, He was one of the best during hay day of jazz/rock fusion music. No doubt. Thanks for Your insight.

Flat out, unbelievable band.We will never hear a band like them in our lifetime.I think! but there are groups out there mimicking the stuff.Checkout the Sea Of Tr 13:2anquility with Pete Pardo.

    • @326vince

@@robertsullivan6246 It was similar to other shows they did around that time. They played Miles Beyond. Meeting of the Spirits. Lotus on Irish Streams. The Dance of Maya. And the best Noonward Race I’ve heard. I wish I could find the show? Seems strange that they’ve only released the 1 song. So long ago it’s pretty hard to clarify everything. No one can even say if Savoy Brown played! I caught Allmans. Alice Cooper. ELP Mahavishnu. I slept on an off. Cooper was really late which was ok to me. It kinda made the hanging scene feel like a cool moment. I’m so glad ELP and A Cooper finally released their shows. I’d love to see it again. Too bad it wasn’t a big deal. Sabbath was there an didn’t preform! Sad. What I saw was well worth being there

... remembering the thunder claps before the show.. ominous and loud as the band would soon be... and the mid-set downpour, unleashing waterfalls streaming down in front of the performers, off the flimsy clear plastic tarps that they hastily gaffer's-taped up last minute... and the puddles spreading out across the stage, Mahavishnu having to wide-step over them to get from place to place... amidst all that voltage..! Lord of Mercy!... and the cheers of the New Yorkers who just WOULD NOT BE RAINED OUT... maybe the best show ever for this little fiddle.

on this track with MO1, and MO2 with Walden, Armstrong/Moran, JM made surreal psychedelic moments - some that stretched forward seemlessly for 45 minutes, Visions LP doing that for me - but how about when JMs bands let's incl One Truth broke it down to funk?
this guitarist was totally comfortable in that American aspect of world music - as he became with Indian, Spanish, Brazilian, French (Debussy to Django)
    JM becomes other-worldly.

Thanks for the Reply Man.Well I envy you, i guess that was the Golden Age! I first saw John in 88' with Jeff Berlin and Trilock Gurtu ~ and it was tremendous, but seeing film of MO 1 has given me some kind of immersion experience...Back in my mid~teens I met a friendly Record Stall owner who had a Suitcase of Bootleg Cassette Tapes stashed under the Counter.I knew I'd found a like~minded Soul 'cos he was blasting out a Jack Bruce Gig i'd never heard the like of before in the Shop, and we quickly connected over a mutual obsession for the Music of McLaughlin and Jack Bruce in particular. Next time I turned up the shop wasn't very busy so he drags out this Suitcase with about a hundred Cassettes in it...and they were all Mahavishnu Orchestra and Jack Bruce, with a few Van Der Graaf Generator tapes thrown in. The upshot was that he would copy the ones I was interested in and bring them in letting me have them for free. What a Guy... He'd seen John with "Lifetime" playing to 30 people in a small Glasgow Club and MO 1 at the more spacious Kelvin Hall in '72. Other key Gigs included seeing McLaughlin, Jack Bruce, Billy Cobham and Stu Goldberg in Germany in '79. Luckily Live Shows proliferate on TH-cam nowdays and it's nice to have a similar conversation with a Mahavishnu Head.Cool to know there's more of us out there.I think Mahavishnu gave us a glimpse of Heaven. Thanks again. Best Wishes. Bye for now.

@@maxinemckenzie5765 Hi Maxine, you've seen some very cool shows, too. Being a bass player myself, I have always been a huge fan of Jack Bruce & just about anything he was involved in. Never saw him play with Johnny Mac, but I DID get to see him live at club shows with some great drummers: in 1976, "The Jack Bruce Band" with a young Simon Phillips playing like, in my words at the time, "a mini-Cobham"; and "Jack Bruce & Friends" in 1980 (with the man himself, Billy Cobham, on drums, along with David Sancious on keys & guitar). Great, great shows. Thank you, Jack, RIP.
