Thank you, i have never felt the need to post on youtube tutorials before. This was great to watch and has given me plenty of ideas for the future on my sloping six and a half acre plot. A do and do not on the gabion construction video would be great.
This is awesome. I really enjoyed your step by step tutorial explaining.what fascinates me most is it seems you did it all on you own. This is not a small job.
Thanks Paul. Just started filming a new gabion project today so keep an eye out for more videas. Going more onto depth of detail and better video content
thanks Kevin its a very good way of creating a wall and is also relatively cheap only expense is the basket itself and the stone face(if you wanted stone face) all the backfill can be sourced for free or very cheaply
Thanks for taking the time to post these videos, looks a great job. Do you think this system would be suitable to retain 3m of soil perhaps with a slight lean back into the earth being retained?
emma davies hi Emma yes that would be fine as long as I get a nice solid base on clay or good deep base of hardcore. the general rule of thumb with retaining walls is how ever high the wall is the base must be 1/3 the high wide ( this is general rule without having to get structural reengineers in and have plans drawn up )so like you say 3 meters would be 1 meter thick at base and as you come up you can start to narrow off the wall. a lean back into the soil would help with any hydraulic pressure caused by the water in the soil.
Supper looking job, thanks for sharing you knowledge, enjoyed watching all four videos of this project. What is the price of one of the baskets and can they be bought in Ireland?
Loving these vids, thanks for making hem, things are clearer for me now. Is the drain you added there because of an existing problem or a drainage issue that's caused by the baskets?
The drain was already in but because we extended the slop out past the valley we created a dam in effect so the drain allow large amount of water to drain away instead of backing up
Do you have a website? In desperate need of someone with your skills to come and look at my garden!!;) Really enjoyed the videos and definitely want gabions
Nice. looks like you used preformed cages as opposed to making them on site yourself. Is that right? Did you connect each gabion to the one next to it?
Jason Oliver Hi there I didn't use preformed no I used individual mesh sheets and the customer asked to join each basket to the next so we saved a sheet each basket to save cost. in one of the videos I did a time laps of building a basket.
BW land Management thanks. Your cages were very square/straight - on site cages are often bowed and less refined. Sheets helps a lot, as opposed to rolled mesh, I think that's why you're were so good. How did connecting them together save a sheet?
Jason Oliver the reason they are nice and straight is because they are lots of tie wires going through each basket that keeps everything nice and tight I hate driving past baskets on the motorway and seeing them bulging out when it can be stopped with a few tie wires. and because if you imagine 2 cubes next to each other both 6 sides then you take one side that is side by side out and connect the 2 baskets together so one has 6 and one has 5 in effect. so they share one side wall.
I know this is an old video but honestly, I haven't found a more informative video on how to install and fill baskets . The wall looks great.
Very good video. You have a very pleasant voice.
Fabulous film and job thanks for taking the time to document.

tom connolly hi Tom I'm sure they could be yes each basket works out around £48 if you have all corners with coils on
thanks blake

What size did you build the Baskets? 3x5?
Porfirio Deras-lopez the baskets are 1m cubes and then cut in half for the smaller baskets
A bit hard to hear in some parts...
