    I don’t think anything captures your essence more than the transition from “I now feel an apprehension towards the public notoriety I used to eagerly anticipate” to “Oh look, a squirrel” and I mean that as a compliment.

      Haha I love this! Yup, encapsulates me. Can think fairly deeply one moment, and like a 3 year old the next.

    Two things that infinitely improved my life: not scrolling through Twitter (especially people in the recommended/you're not following), and I stopped arguing with people on Reddit. Realised it wasn't really contributing to anything, on a personal level, or to anyone else.
    When it comes to Twitter people throwing out hot takes regarding the space you work in or something you do (like J vlogging), I would just say to myself, 'Am I content and happy with what I'm doing? Am I contributing to the space? etc...',
    Really, in the end, the only thing that matters is doing what makes you happy.
    I know this comment is getting long, but I am more convinced by the argument for a flat earth than a charlatan saying you can 'learn' a language in TWO MONTHS.
    Keep doing what your doing, and good luck on your future ambitions in and outside of the channel :)

    Would have gotten to this video sooner, but life happened to me. Glad to have you back! Don't worry about the lag between videos, just roll with what you feel and the viewers will be there! And yes, I'm sure that was a cute doggy too!

    Thanks for sharing this! It's tough finding the line between damaging messages online and the very real change in Japanese attitudes towards streamers/TH-camrs.

    Glad to see you back! I started watching from the Akihabra/Steins;Gate pilgrimage and kept watching because I found your channel to be more natural (plus I love seeing the shrines).
    Thank you for keeping it real!

    Having any sort of creative presence online has its struggles for sure. Appreciate you sharing how you have been feeling with us. I can promise you that the people who watch you don't feel the same as these ignorant nobodies. We love your videos no matter when you feel like posting. Sending lots of love

      Ahhh, means a lot coming from you. We know what it's like being in the content creation space for decades, and somehow it doesn't get easier to shut out the negativity.

  • @phedran
    @phedran 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The thing about how the internet, social media, algorithms, and the advent of content creators is that... for a lot of people, even if they're not a "creator", it doesn't matter to them the meaning behind what they say or do, as long as they can get the retweets, likes, clicks, or attention. It's not even about money, there are so many people I've seen that will do anything for their "five minutes of fame". As you say, what you read on twitter isn't reality, but also just because someone says something doesn't mean they even believe it themselves, it could just be meant to be inflammatory or to get attention or traction from being divisive.
    As someone who has had Japan as a special interest for decades, is a redhead, and has been creating video content online for over 12 years, I personally don't care if you speak Japanese or not! I subbed to you for you, and the videos you've made, and shared your channel with other people, and we actively watch all your videos and talk about them afterwards.
    You do you, preferably it's something that makes you happy, we are here for it. 🤗

      This was a delight to read! Thank you. It's so true that people will just stay stuff online they don't even mean to get the clicks and views. Gotta remember that life outside of socials is so much more nuanced than what's being said in a short tweet. Thanks a lot and thanks for taking the time to write comment. ❤

    Oh man, I totally get that. I have a friend who also is a J-vlogger and she's mentioned its tough as people have gotten so rude and outright dumb that makes vloggers look bad. Back like 12 years ago, I got obsessed watching J-Vloggers and really enjoyed the content creators that were just showing off fun stuff and being helpful with information (how I met my aforementioned friend).
    It just boils down to people being really dismissive and rude. It really sucks that has sapped your motivation. Social media can reallyyyyyy magnify it. Appreciate being real & upfront

    • @GingerGaiden
      @GingerGaiden  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This exactly! Us vloggers are like an iceburg, you can only see the tip and there's so much more you don't see! Yet the internet won't get to know us long enough before the judge.

    In response to the thing about "in videos, [we] never see all the Japanese [you] speak daily", I've been catching up on your videos today and earlier noticed in the Tomita road trip one how naturally you were shooting the breeze with your friends in Japanese. Whenever I speak Japanese, I have to really concentrate and deliberately assemble whatever it is I'm about to say. You seem to be able just *do* it, and it shows, and I am big jelly about it. It's super hard work (and you work WAY harder than I do), but it's paying off!
    And yeah, I know we're "not supposed to let mean words get to us", but doing that is *hard*! When someone goes out of their way to be judgy, hurtful, and just plain shitty, it's a genuinely difficult task to just "let it roll off your back" like it never happened. So I've got no judgements whatsoever for you stepping back because of it.
    Looking forward to whatever you put out next!

    I really enjoy your videos so I m happy that you are back.
    You know that now that you are in hokkaido you need to do the anime in real life video of the anime "hokkaido gals are cute" or whatever is the title.
    Also on a more serious note I understand what you mean about smaller channels having a more intimate feeling.
    Looking forward to more from you in the future.

    You can make travel vlogs without drawing attention by filming short clips and voicing over them later! That also gives you more narrative control to tell a story about your day.
    My channel started as a travel vlog which hardly anyone watched. But those are my favorite videos, because they brought me closer to friends and were ultimately for myself to enjoy rewatching in the future. If you're making content which you personally enjoy and are proud of, then you're succeeding where it matters most.
    My channel has grown recently as I've changed subjects, and with a bigger audience inevitably come some weird trolls. Just block and move on. It's really helped to remember that nobody who spreads hate comments is a happy person living a good life. Nobody who trashes J-tubers is a person in your life who knows you or who you need to care about.

    Thanks for taking us to the park. I don’t get out like I used to but have tried to stay off social media as much as possible. I start comparing myself to others and think everyone hates me. (I mean I probably have some haters, who doesn’t?)😅 But every time I just get out and spend time with family I realize that online isn’t real life and that I don’t have to let those people (the haters) live rent free in my brain.

    • @GingerGaiden
      @GingerGaiden  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Right?! I think during the pandemic a lot of us just lived online and started to make it more real than it actually was. After spending time with friends and family in real life you realize that online stuff really doesn't even compare.

    I really appreciate this video! As an avid overthinker, I think you're overthinking the whole J-vlogger thing. Just do things you enjoy, and learn to not mind what other people or society thinks, *too* much.
    Also, just because walking around and rambling might not be the most high-production/effort video, it doesn't mean that the community doesn't have to like it more than other videos with more money/resources being put into them.

    I knew your husband in college - from the anime group- he shared this channel with me a couple years ago- and if I can say one thing: do you. Be authentic, keep making stuff that makes you happy and do you, and ignore the trolls :) I pretty much exclusively watch smaller creators for the same reasons you noted. Take my advice with a grain or salt though 😂 im a 36 yo man who still collects pokemon cards 😂 I only have 1k subs and regularly get trolled... even being a tiny creator. Just have to brush it off, do me and keep doing my thing (collecting shiny cardboard)
