    thank you so much for posting this :D I'm going to get my full back tattooed in about 2 hours and I travelled all the way from Germany to Dublin for it. I'm sooo nervous but I'm well prepared with smoothies snacks and sandwiches!!

      C4SHI wo wirst du denn tätowiert? hab in dublin immer nur so dubiose läden gesehen aber wollte da wenn ich nächstes jahr nochmal hinfahre auch tätowiert werden.

      C4SHI ooh, who in Dublin did you travel to get tattooed by? I live in Dublin and I'm always on the lookout for really good artists nearer to me 😊

      Dublin Ink is the place to go! All of their resident artists and the guest artitsts are amazing. I know there are so many shops in Dublin but Dublin Ink is by far the best one. :)

      What are you getting tattooed onto your back?

      I got a huge lineart mandala with a peony in the middle tattooed on my
      back. We will be finishing it in June when the artist is in Bonn by
      adding some more peonies to my butt and shoulder blades :) his name is
      Wagner Basei if you are interested in checking out his work

    Why are people arguing!!! When I was doing my apprenticeship (and still with all tattoos ive had and tattooist i know) you kept it wrapped until you get home, cleaned off the gunk, then let it air dry. Ideally don't re-cover, as sweat builds under it and can in very rare cases cause infection as sweat is your bodies way of excreting waste so you don't want it to mix that for hours with a raw wound. BUT if its kept clean some tattooists recommend to recover to stop you sticking to clothing and bedsheets when its still in its "oozing" stage, but that stage should only last MAX 24h if you're looking after it right. Then keep it moist with whatever you use to heal, scabs will naturally fall off, don't pick at it and voila. Peace!

    • @helenanderz
      @helenanderz  7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Kimberley B I've always been told by every tattoo artist to keep it covered for either 24hours or until the next morning. Everyone thinks their way is right because they've been told differently, but anyway is ok if it's been told by your artist. Only slight variables won't make much difference 😂😂

    • @ShieldmaidenSway
      @ShieldmaidenSway 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Exactly my point!!! I really don't understand why people are arguing about it. Piisshhh.

    • @AmyyLou
      @AmyyLou 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      my tattooist told me to keep mine wrapped up for a couple of days as its on the inside of my arm to stop it from rubbing but everyone is different. theres no need to argue about it haha

    • @EC-eo4go
      @EC-eo4go 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kimberley B Excellent that's what I have always been told every time I got a tattoo by different artist. the only one I had to wrap after getting home was one on my back and that is because I got it done really late at night and had to keep cling on it to sleep so it wouldn't get stuck to the sheet. but it did any way.

    • @RosaCatz
      @RosaCatz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was told to keep it on until evening (Got it tattoed at 2pm), let it air out a few hours, and then cover it for bed.

    Give Tattoo Goo a try! It basically just completely soothes the skin and stops any irritation/itching without the tattoo scabbing over. I've been using it on my most recent ones and they've healed within about a week or so, zero itching and the colour's been really vibrant! X

    This was such an interesting video, I only have one small tattoo on my wrist but I remember no one told me how much the ink would bleed out so in the evening I was freaking out like "Oh my god, my tattoo is ruined why does it look smudged?!?!" then all the excess gunk literally came away in the shower and all was fine 😂

    • @BB.halo_heir
      @BB.halo_heir 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EdgyGalaxyGirl 6 except all the cling wrap. after you get home take it off, wash with warm water and fragrance free soap and pat dry. just let it breath. all those pieces falling off in her shower isnt good, probably end up with a lot of ghost spots that need to be filled in later. tattoos shouldn't scab, if done right. mine didn't. :)

      Bel Ban when do you normally start to moisturize it? The day after or like 3 days after

    • @BB.halo_heir
      @BB.halo_heir 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      lovebeauty2 the same day. take off the bandage, rinse with warm water, use your hand to rub on the fragrance free soap, rinse, pat dry, then apply a good lotion. i like Keri lotion the best. nothing with petroleum in it. just keep doing this until it heals up. when your hair starts to grow back thats when the itching starts. just keep reapplying the lotion, never scratch it to avoid pulling out ink. i usually slap it to stop itching. lotion and slapping are all you can do for the itching. dont soak in a tub, dont let hot water keep hitting it. after it heals up use sunblock when in the sun. i have a full back piece and 15 years later it still looks great. hope this helps, and you love your new tattoo. glad to help, anytime :)

    • @HeleLost
      @HeleLost 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Emily Sims Me too! I've always used a thick cream you buy at the pharmacy (the one you use on babies' butt when they get rashes!), but I'm definitely interested in trying something more natural if that means it would heal equally good or even better!

    • @holly8260
      @holly8260 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Mildo_Swaggins
      @Mildo_Swaggins 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      helefcuk if you want to try something more natural, try pawpaw cream. My friends and I all use it on our tattoos and it works wonders! I would suggest buying a pot of it rather than a tube because it's great for everything, chapped lips, scraped knees, healing tattoos, everything.

    I use dream cream too! It's incredible :) I never get any itching and I'm healed by just under a week. Your tattoo is beautiful😍😍 I also don't keep it cling filmed for long if it's summer. I've always heard to keep it on for.4-5 hours in summer as you are keeping it in a bag of sweat basically and it can cause infection.
    Vegan ink also heals quickly and stays brighter :) love love love

    I am now nearing 80% covered in tattoos. all done in a shop from heavily researched artists. I mainly use the same 2 men now. we have a built up relationship and trust. I highly recommend NOT keeping your tattoo wrapped for over 4 hours. it causes the tattoo to seep, not breathe and all in all is a bad idea for healing. keep it from getting dry with a thin coat of Lubriderm once and a while during the day. I'd say 4 times in 24 full hours is safe. if you have dry skin more. the first day I would at most lotion it once to twice and very lightly. wash twice a day with a natural dye free and scent free soap. foaming ones work nicely. try to use a paper towel and softly pat dry. that or air dry. after an hour use light lotion. don't lotion before a solid hour is up after the two washings, because it can lock too much moisture in

    i find it so interesting how differently people clean their tattoos. when i get mine done i usually wait 3-4 hours and then wash it with really hot water, use some unfragranced soap, rinse it off, pat it dry with a paper towel, put cream on it & put the cling film on it. i repeat that for about 3 days & then i do exactly the same thing, but without cling film for about another 4 days & then i literally just put cream on it when it starts getting a bit dry, 'cause it should always be moisturised 💪 but yeah, lovely video Helen & the tattoo looks amazing. i'm also getting a new one in a month :)

    For my first tattoo I was told to keep the bandage/wrap on overnight
    It was a pretty sizeable piece on my calf, but after taking the wrap off there wasn’t too much plasma or anything, just used a wash and lotion whenever I felt dry/itchy (it was never anything excruciating).
    Healed perfectly in just a few weeks, a great first experience.

    Ahh this is good to know. My first tattoo I wasn't really told much aftercare cause it wasn't the best shop. I ended up sticking to my bed sheets for a week cause of all the gunk and its so faded and blurry you can hardly read it now (its a quote with some flowers book ending it). My second and third went better but I'm planning for a few larger pieces so I've been getting worried about how to heal them the best to retain the most vibrancy. Thanks Helen!

    Personally, I'm all about dry healing, as that's just what works best for my skin, but everything else you mentioned is spot on. 😚

    Curious if anyone has tried the dry healing and how it worked for you? I've only ever had one artist tell me to do that for like the first 3 days or so and it was awfully itchy and tight. Any thoughts as to why dry healing would be an option?

      you asked it 11 months ago though, it may be helpfull for your next tattoo if you decide to get one. i have two small tattoos and i didn’t get em wet for the first 3 days. my artist told me to do so but the only reason behind it was to avoid germs that the city water may contain. after 3 days, i washed my tattoos with bottled or boiled water and dried it gently. according to my tattoo artist, if you are sure the water you use is sterile, don’t be afraid to wash your tattoo. english is not my first language, sorry for that:)

    I always drink way too much water and lucozade to the point I need a wee all the time which is super annoying! With my first tattoo I had time off work but my second one oh my god I went into work the next day feeling like I had the worst hangover ever. That was a super long, painful day where I just sulked so I'd definitely try and book a days holiday or avoid going to work / going outside lol

    All the artists I've been to have told me the same aftercare process. I've not heard of re-wrapping a tattoo but if it works then do it I guess..
    My aftercare process goes like this..
    After 2-3 hours take off the cling film and wash the tattoo with unscented shower gel, pat dry with a clean towel and put on whatever cream suits you best (I use savlon). Use the cream morning noon and night until all the scabs have healed up :) and just keep using unscented soaps in the shower, don't soak in the bath unless the fresh tattoo can be kept above the water.

    This was so useful I'm getting my first tattoo in 2 weeks! Mine is quite small and just linework does that effect how you do aftercare?

      Lucy Jones - The aftercare would be the same.

    • @spritierthanever
      @spritierthanever 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lucy Jones nope, same aftercare it'll probably just heal faster cause theres not as much packed color or saturation. Least thats my experience

      Eclipse the Brave its the only thing my family uses, aquafore used to (maybe still do idk) have an alcohol base which dries your tattoo out, where tattoo goo doesnt BUT. with tattoo goo your tattoo seems to heal nicer and more pretty but it takes a long time.

    Hi Helen, hi everyone else with a sleeve tattoo. I was wondering what made you realise you wanted to get a sleeve tattoo? I've been thinking about getting a Viking themed sleeve done for a while now but for whatever reason I'm not entirely sure about it yet. I already have a couple smaller ones. Any advice on how to decide?

    • @paulasmyth315
      @paulasmyth315 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Anni2802 I'm currently in the process of a sleeve. I had my upper arm started about 4 years back and ever since I've just built up. it started to look odd to me. (I'm very tattoo covered now) sometimes people go the full way with a sleeve or gradually. if you're unsure, speak to an artist about a potential sleeve and they could start it somewhere that will look good but won't need to turn into a sleep if you no longer want it. hope this helps!

      Anni2802 I have a full sleeve and I dont have a reason for getting it, i mean the tattoo has a meaning but I just decided to get it haha

    • @FreakyVenda
      @FreakyVenda 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I can remember I've always wanted to get a full sleeve. I started working on it 3 years ago and now my arm is almost completely covered. But I'd say the most important things you have to take into consideration is to not commit to it until 1) you're 100% sure that you want a sleeve and 2) you're sure of the design. Maybe you should start with getting a half sleeve and then extend it into a full sleeve. :)

      Talk with your tattooist. Bring a load of reference photos and discuss what way to go about it ((: if it's a good tattooist they will find unique ways to customise it for you

    • @ShortCrazy1
      @ShortCrazy1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you're not sure, don't go through with it. The way I decide what to actually get is to get an idea and think about it. If I still want it after a year, it's going to be something that I won't regret. If there's certain aspects you like, start with a smaller tattoo and add to it. It's easier to rework or cover a small piece (for the most part) than a larger one and you can always add to it when you want.
