That noise is a vacuum leak on boost it wants a leak off test to find were the boost is escaping, props on the build looks raw as f**k luv it but it's far from a 17k build it could be build for 7-8k imo

Defo not a boost leak mate, it's the bar on the pedal box needs greasing up, I don't think you would build one for 7k,

@@tomcottam6291 Christ I don’t think you could buy any half drivable Nova for less than 4 now. Saw a reasonably good condition GTE for sale locally for 8 and OG had a Redtop Sport on for 10( I thought that was a bargain to be fair)Even my mates Swing with a GTE engine is worth a bit now so yeah I can see where the price mounts up when doing a full conversion for sure.
@@tomcottam6291 I've built 22 now over the years I'd easy get that spec for less than 8k I'm in the trade so 3.5 is steep even for bare metal are job welding done meself the conversion is the cost n I don't need a built block for 300bhp, there's no way it's the pedal box as it would have to slide a fair bit to make that noise when on constant boost, in my experience it's one of 2 things boost leak or wrong or I proper fitted clutch ( I've had this on a couple of occasions with let or xerox clutches

@@stevenross-watt8640 Sounds like that soft blue silicone air intake on that turbo compressor housing is collapsing as it draws in air from the air filter.
@@davidgriggs3967 another good option. I had similar happen on my escort rs turbo a long time ago. That silicon intake pipe always ended up with a little breather oil sitting in the bottom of it and over time it lost its structure and would collapse in under the low pressure created by the turbo compressor sucking for air.
@@stevenross-watt8640 I had this also , this exact sound when I upgraded my turbo and raised boost by 4 psi from stock and the oem rubber intake started to collapse in on it's self making this exact sound.
@@davidgriggs3967 Nice. The voice of experience ! :). In the rsturbo the pipe tended to be so old and like you say when the boost was raised it would collapse so badly it would starve the turbo and the car would lose most of its bhp as soon as the turbo spooled. :)

Quiafe quick rack makes them much better but makes the steering Harvey. So I used to run corsa b epas with controller so you could adjust how heavy the wheel was. Love novas had loads when I was younger

built the 4th one of these with a carquip kit mounts and drive shafts back in the early 90s ,sort the brakes out bud .
16v rear discs to match the 16v front discs and calipers plus change the rear bias valve sorted.
The production quality has been next level recently!

I had a 1.2i mk2 with that cartridge hazard switch. Can’t believe you used to be able to flip it and the ignition came on. Madness. Car cost me £400 and twin 12 inch subs sound system £800 😂

Must be a nightmare to get the power down mind. I had a 205 GTi turbo conversion that was dyno'd @ 228bhp, that weighed around 900kg, and would spin in 5th in the wet if you went hard through the gears 🤣

One of my neighbours had a blue Nova when I was growing up, didn’t do much to it other than lower it with a fat outward-tipped exhaust but I loved it… he got rid of it in the end for a yellow turbo-engined Punto.

Haha, don't forget drums on average only generate ~20% of the force when on the back, drums were all you needed back in them days quite honestly. You could argue a lighter rear disc conversion could reduce the un-sprung weight given he's gone for bigger wheels - try to rebalance that stock handling geometry.

I don't know what that turbo noise is but just check for leaks it shouldn't be like that. Get a health check done from a tuner who do builds. Maybe dynodaze in Nuneaton they did a health check on my car to find a boost leak

I try to get into these older cars, I mean some of them are sick, but something like this I just don't like nor understand the point, especially when things are said like "it beats a golf R", yeah, sure it does, when its stock. Yet you slap just a £300 JB4 on a golf R and it shits on this, costs about the same as this bloke spent and is 25 years newer lmao, going off vids like this in 5 years more there will be a lot more people who will have built mk7/8 R's and be running 500+hp then it'll be the same, I think stuff like this had its day and its all nostalgia, then again I was born in 1990 so may be why I have less interest in these Nova's and such....Credit to this guy though anyway, I can appreciate it as I love anything with a bit of power and I respect that it is more of a nostalgic thing for you older guys.
