I had one of these - I'm now 70 - and they were so simple and reliable. I remember when you switched on the ignition there was a sort of ticking sound which I understand was the fuel pump activating. My first car, early 70's, was a Moggie Traveller with all the woodwork. It was an MOT failure, I paid £15 for it and bonded it up to get a ticket. Cheap motoring. Good memories, happy days, better times.
Took me back to my childhood. My 2 x brothers and I used to sit on the wheelarches and floor in the back. Looking forward to you're nexr episode. Thanks!
This brought back a lot of memories, I learnt to drive in one of these in 1974. It never let me down, it lived outside, I never even used to lock it, even in the coldest weather it used to start immediately. It was 1100 cc I could get it to indicate 80 mph on the clock, don't now how fast it was really going but it felt like it was going 100 mph.
That looks a very solid moggy van, remember well the traditional banging on the fuel pump to get it to go that chassis looks in very nice condition hope you have many hours of fun driving it, one of the best cars ever...
I like the longer videos because you're not boring and know what's what with motors. I can identify with the cars you work on as I worked on this age of motor when I was a mechanic in the sixties and seventies, they were everyday cars! Like your style bud!
I adore this van. The originality is incredible. It’s like a time machine where you can sit in it & travel back to the 1970’s! (Or 80’s when it was last on the road)👍🇬🇧
@@badgerlodgegarage yes, that would be wise. Maybe some kind of clear coat? I love how you’re fixing it up. Obviously some things do need replaced, but you keeping it as original as possible is commendable. Because so many of these have been fully restored and painted etc. they’re nice- but they are no longer original. You’re doing a great job. Brian. 👍🇬🇧
@@badgerlodgegarage *_ Your neighbour's roof outshines yours.... time to bring out the Pressure Washer! If folks would only realize how bad moss is on their roofs! _*
Really enjoying the recommissioning of this van. I worked for the Civil Service (Home Office) in the mid 70's and we had these Austins on the fleet which I got to drive as soon as I passed my test in 1975. Like most of the vehicles, they were some of the very last off the production line and my recollection of them was they were dependable and solid wagons, although the handling was 'interesting' on the narrow cross-ply tyres! Certainly got a soft spot for them, look forward to the next instalment.
As a farmer back in the day we or my fatherhad 3 moggie van 800cc 900cc and 1100 ex red post office van ...they where truly the toyota hilux of the 60s I learned and past my test in our farm van ...and in the late 60s my uncle bought the very same colour engine and a "austin " like yours ....truly a trip down memory lane this vid ...looking at this just reminds me how basic they were....fun fact brake and clutch pedals going down together seized up I suppose....brill stuff sir cheers dave...👏👏👍
I prefer the longer videos to be honest. Following with great interest. Chassis looks in remarkable condition! Seems like the perfect tinkering project with no major structural issues to worry about by the looks of it. Looking forward to the brakes episode as I am planning a complete brake redo on my 2dr saloon shortly!
I love a Morris Minor commercial, owned many saloons over the years but never a van. One small comment, don't keep the plastic fuel filter in the engine bay for long. The heat makes the plastic go brittle and wear quicker! Keep up the excellent work.
A very happy and prosperous New Year to you too. I don't mind the longer videos at all, time goes quickly on them because they're so interesting to watch. I'm loving this van and can't get over how well preserved it is considering where it's been. I'll not tell my mate about this, you get a tank for a 52 year old van in no time, yet he can't for the life of him get a replacement exhaust for his 18 year old LT 2.5D Luton anywhere, it's driving him up the wall!!
Loved watching this ,had an Aunt who owned a moggie and an Uncle who had a Westminster, loved both but Westminster back seat was like being on plush leather sofa, five kids on it and still room, seat belt?what's one of them. When did cars go from being designed by engineers to people who must hate them.
Another great video. Learning loads watching this. Half hour vids are good for me but I don’t mind an hour, I just watch it in smaller bite size chunks. Looking forward to the one on the radiator and brakes. 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed! I think It’s going to be a mixture of long and short depending on what iv got going on and I don’t have an upload schedule currently.
I had a Morris 1000 once and had a faulty fuel pump. Every time it cut out i had to get my leg over(!!) and kick the passenger side bulkhead. Worked every time😆😆
well done lads enjoy all your videos , yep an hour vid would be ok for me but takes some more of your time editing etc , what a fantastic condition that van is in really great find 👍👍
Good to see how good and solid it is under it and don't need welding as you think its small then gets bigger ive spend to many times welding rusty old cars up so your a lucky man and so easy to get new parts for wats your plans on that front wing with the massive dent in you doing a full restoration or part and keeping the paint as it is i would i wax oil under the whole van to protect it
I enjoy your stuff so I'll watch long videos, though, personally I prefer little and often to long and less frequent as regards content. Say, half an hour once a week is fine for me, perhaps on a regular day.
Thanks for the feedback! Currently, I will definitely be doing a mixture I think… sadly I can’t do a regular upload schedule at the moment, but hopefully there will be something for everyone.
Great progress considering how long this has been off the road! Would still replace that fuel pump in the long term though, got a strong feeling it will leave you sitting at the side of the road at some point in the future?😂I also enjoy your longer format vids - much more happens!👍 Looking forward to part 3!
Don't leave just water in rad ,don't know what your weather is like but it's freezing up here, don't want it freezing and blowing fire plugs, get some antifreeze in the water asap😁👍
Fear not, the system was flushed through with cold water and drained at the end for that very reason! Getting lots of minus temps in the south currently.
Whats the difference between the Morris and the Austin. I have seen a Morris Oxford van here in NZ but not an austin. I own a 69 MM Van which is my daily drive
Thought about doing up a Moggy... just did a search for prices!!!!! OMG 😮😮😮😮 Just WTF is going on!!! HELP where do you get these 'barn find' things? (don't say, "ah well, we just got lucky and found a barn....". There has to be a better way. Saw about 50, what I would call 'scrap cars for parts' going for £2.5K - WHAT ON EARTH?
I do prefer videos not more than 30 minutes, because I'm a working man with other shit to do than watch TH-cam. It's harder to find one hour than 30 min free, and I don't like starting a video today and finish it some days later.

I do enjoy the long videos. Very interesting and good to see some old school tinkering going on.
Over far too quick! I’m so glad I found your channel. You are doing the old girl proud. 👍🇬🇧

I agree.
With these old cars i literally wouldn't want a fully restored car but rather an original survivor car.
It’s definitely staying original, but will have to find/ make something to protect the bodywork.

@@TheGreatest1974 i agree, its only original once. Either wipe over with an oily rag or softly prepare the bodywork and clear coat the patina in.

Another great video fella , it can never be to long , the longer the better, it's great to see more people working on English cars , 😉👍🏻👍🏻

Grand little work horses they were, deserve to be saved 👍

I like the longer videos guys you need a garage keep the videos coming

I have a few classic collector cars, I've found using ethanol free fuel will keep the fuel tanks from rusting.
I love it when I come across characters 👍🏼🍻
i like the make it up as we go along attitude a man after my own heart
Absolutely tremendous, absorbing content. The videos can be longer, you have a great way of presenting, looking forward to the next installment !

It’s very solid, it’s going to be cleaned and treated with lano guard or lano shield as an experiment.
Long Videos are good.
some 2 Stroke oil mixed with the Petrol would help with the Fuel Pump action.
keep the content coming Chaps..Thank you .😁
Longer the better for me.
I didn't realise the Morris van had a removable ply floor, great access for maintenance.
Is the pickup version the same i wonder.

That tank looks tiny but there is plenty of room for a bigger one.
The new one is bigger than the old one, it’s now a 9.5 Gallon as opposed to the original 7.
How sweet is that 1098cc unit ? Its had some long service use but not abused. I'd bet its going to drive and pull well.

Not trying to teach you how to suck eggs....but I always get a few plastic containers for the screws, nuts, bolts etc.
A very sensible suggestion! And something I keep forgetting, especially working remotely like this… I must make a list!
Hour long videos are fine, but I vote against hem if they prevent you from posting videos as often.
Like the video’s but stop trying to be Derek Bieri of vice grip garage, be your own man
This is pretty much me… fear not, Im trying to achieve a decent presenting style. So it will definitely morph as we go!
Any professional mechanic would refuse to work in such conditions, you guys are typical back yarders begging the public for money....
Believe it or not, I do this for fun!
